Thanks to the most recent issue of the otw_news newsletter, I found my way to Fan Fiction Writers Face Nonfiction Legal Hurdles -- an article on the NPR site, which goes along with a 9-minute radio interview that Rebecca Tushnet (OTW board member) did with National Public Radio about fanfiction. I'm listening to it now; this is so cool! Go, listen, squee!

I've actually had the S5 premiere on my hard drive for a couple of weeks, but I saved it for the Friday night it was going to air -- both because I may not be able to watch other eps in a timely manner until mid-August, and also because I wanted to be able to squee over it with another fan. So I waited until a friend and I could watch it and make high-pitched dolphin noises together!
( Spoilers for Search and Rescue! )

Just watched the movie Broken Wings (Knafayim Shvurot), and it is awesome. The characters are smart, complex, and broken -- even the kids. (Especially the kids.) It's the story of a dysfunctional family struggling to come to terms with the loss of the father, and it's just gorgeous.
During the post-film discussion, I noted that the film is full of windows. (Seriously, if you watch it, take note: hospital windows, school windows, windows in doors, portholes, characters separated by panes of glass -- all over the place.) People around the table offered me many props for noticing that motif, and I thought, "thanks, vidders" -- I would totally not have noticed that five years ago before I started closely watching vids.

| sg-1 |
|
For reasons that don't bear exploration at this juncture, there's an episode of SG-1 on the television. We turned it on in medias res.
Sam and Daniel were trying to talk Jack into listening to them and watching some kind of tape which will indicate that they're on a team together. He's -- a fisherman? With a Canadian accent?
And suddenly who should walk onscreen but Rodney. Who apparently Sam and Daniel do not yet know.
(And awww -- the episode ends a few minutes later. Alas!)
Um. Can someone out there tell me what episode I was watching? Because I am filled with glee!
(It is entirely possible I am way, way too excited about the SGA premiere on Friday. *g*)

On this day in 2007, I posted a WS Merwin poem and wittered about being in SGA withdrawal because I had just mainlined S1 and S2 and I was desperate to begin S3.
In 2006, I posted a recipe for berry buckle.
In 2005 I didn't post on July 3, though on July 2 I posted a bit about health and a bit about pleasant summer things.
In 2004 I also didn't post on July 3, but on July 2 I posted about a new piece of dS flashfiction.
In 2003, again, no posts on July 3, but on July 2 I was posting about raccoon adventures and the Buffy finale.
And in 2002, I posted about a knitting store that made me think of Snape.

This afternoon, lomedet and I invented a whole story wherein Naomi Sandburg came and studied at Pardes in Jerusalem when Blair was about three. Now, several years after joining the PD, he drags Jim with him to Jerusalem so he can rediscover his childhood roots. Hijinks, as they say, ensue.
It's a great story. Too bad it doesn't exist. *g*
I saw Walk on Water tonight (link goes to Wikipedia entry -- spoilery, beware!) and it is one of the slashiest things in the history of ever. Please tell me someone's written the story where ( spoiler spoiler spoiler )

Just popping in for a second to say -- check it out; there's a volunter job posting at otw_news for a gig working with the Development/Membership committee (run by me!) It's for a swag researcher:
We’re planning to offer some spiffy limited-edition OTW swag during our fall donations drive, and we need YOU to help us research various details: what we should make, how we should make it, what it will cost, how we can ship it to OTW members worldwide. If you would enjoy looking in to different cool things we could imprint with our logo, put your name in the hat! Come play with DevMem -- we are very friendly and we don't bite. Though we do talk about tentacles sometimes at the ends of our meetings. It's...a thing. Don't ask. *g*
