my latest new neighbour is listening to cheesy dance music. at the moment something i think i remember from eurovision but don't remember which eastern european country. i don't think she knows i'm here and is singing along. she's a much much better singer than my last new neighbour.

You're North Korea!
Look out! You're absolutely wacko. Completely insane. There's no telling what you're going to do, and it could make you a danger to yourself and others. People are so scared of you that they usually just cover their eyes and pretend you're not there. The main impact this has had is to make you even more scary, as you yearn for attention and contact with the outside world. Everyone just wants you to calm down.

am currently attempting to transfer casettes to mp3. interesting. it's not really working very well. i was supposed to have moved quickly and efficiently this morning so....of course not. i know where i'm going and the name of the woman i'll be living with who, by the name, i don't think is Polish. but whoever was already there hasn't moved out and tomorrow's the last day to move out so the key was not there. i will ask again after my laundry is done but otherwise i guess i'll move tomorrow but if she doesn't leave by 10 tomorrow i'm fucked since i'm doing this ridiculous czech language workshop tomorrow. man do i ever need a vacation! lucky thing i'm going to brno first thing sunday morning :) and it's raining. obviously it would rain as it's rained everyday and i'm planning to go to 2 outdoor concerts tonight. and the new room is on the other side of the building which means maybe no nesting pigeons but we'll get the sun in the evenings which is really really bad in terms of being hot in the evenings. feh. so much to do.

firstly......the roommate....CLEANED THE BALCONY! which was previously quite covered in pigeon shit! i can't believe it! she's like a hurricane of awesome cleaningness! and the balcony! it's usable! whee!
and then i had a fabulous stroke of luck involving a train ticket. i had just this morning decided to go to brno the first weekend in july instead of in the middle. then at school i saw a sign that someone was selling a train ticket to olomouc for cheap. THEN! i found 50 zloty! how brilliant is that! so....yay! olomouc! brno! moravia! um...skvele!
*edit* AND my advisor at glasgow finally got back to me about re-enrolement! woot!

i think she was in the room again, i have no idea when. but her posters are gone [i took them down and put them behind her ex-bed] and they were still up last time she was here, i think......or i'm going crazy. i noticed the door was only single locked when i came in and the spare umbrella seemed to have moved. yesterday while i was having coffee? while i was carrying around that bag of her stuff and not giving it to her cause it was the dregs of a bottle of shampoo and the like and it felt like i'd be slamming a door in her face? but her mail is still here? what the hell is going on?
and in a tragic fit of irony, my fan seems to be overheating.

Polish vocabulary and issues thereof. we had this game in class, since we're 'describing things', where we'd be given the name of an object and we had to find someone who was the same object. it just so happened that my friend and i were both 'hammocks'. this was discovered via the following conversation: her:'so, can i hang you between 2 trees?' me: 'why yes! do people fall out of you?'
then, the word for pony came up. as i was writing down this piece of vocabulary, i forgot the word for pony in english. thus, my notebook said 'um....horseling? horsepuppy?' so now whenever i fuck up with words i exclaim HORSEPUPPY!
and then i got my elbow trapped between the armrail and window on a tram and could not get it out without a lot of tugging and yanking and then pain and bruising and ridiculousness. yeah. i got my elbow stuck on a tram.

it looks like glasgow uni has gotten rid of the final year scholarship for international students......and as i'm currently unenrolled....i don't know if i will be paying the same fees as i was when i first enrolled after i re-enroll....it's gone up......by £1000. *series of expletives*.

| what just happened? |
[13 May 2007|12:42am] |
so. eurovision! i managed to get video eventually though i just had ken bruce for the first few....still:ireland is clearly still trying to lose, greece had the most amusingly bad choreography, by far the bestest most brilliant kitchy brilliance was britain's flight attendant thingies...it was the only thing that caused me to fall off my chair laughing, the ukrainian entry was a drag queen in tinfoil and i was most baffled by the serbian entry who was a rather short, frumpy quite dykey looking woman in a frumpled suit....kinda looked like ellen degeneres let herself go and played harry potter playing james bond? with backup singers behaving weirdly and looking like the contestants in a Miss International Secret Agent pageant? now, granted she's a really good singer......but.....it's eurovision, it's not really about singing it's about countries picking someone to best make them look ridiculous.....isn't it? [damnit why won't televisionwithoutpity cover eurovision! the guys who cover american idol would do brilliantly with this!] okay, it's like this-at least at our house we watch miss america for the talent competition-and when we watch the talent competition we want to see baton twirling or someone playing the xylophone not some normal looking person with legitimate talent-it defeats the purpose of watching crap like miss america! Aaaaaaanywho, my favourites were france and britain and i was strangely hypnotised by the christina aguilera/bjork/bond girl woman from georgia hopping around in the red dress. and then after the performances as the votes were about to come in, the internet died refused to undie until it was all over at which point SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER!!![but it's over anyway] i was utterly baffled to find that serbia had won [and rampantly rampantly disappointed to find that britain didn't. did i mention singing flight attendants?]. hopefully i'll be able to listen again to the rest of the radio broadcast tomorrow because i'm curious to see how the voting went, how ken bruce reacted to it and who the hell didn't vote for the dancing flight attendants damnit!

eurovision! it's on! tomorrow! i did not know this. it's vaguely possible i might actually be able to watch it online but i suspect it won't work. i guess i'll just go with ken bruce's dulcet commentary again. some day i will succeed in watching!

| pidgeon battle! |
[05 May 2007|12:51pm] |
meanwhile, amidst all the travel disasters, in the absence of me and my roommate the goddamn pidgeons set up a more permanent camp on our balcony. it was absolutely covered in shit, including the laundry hanging thing and then i noticed a nest in the corner. fortunately there were no eggs in it yet. so after getting my mother to the airport and spending a couple hours on various busses thanks to the saturday schedule getting home, i scrubbed the shit off the laundry deedly so i can wash things tomorrow and got rid of the nest. am currently stalking the pidgeons and leaping out at them every time they land on the balcony as i suspect they've forgotten we live here. also, the giantest dustball ever has appeared in our vestibule. rather than fight it, i've named it mortimer.

in the end, the march was amazing. there were skinheads counter-demonstrating but they weren't as numerous as i expected [though they did block us from the square in the end] and we yelled louder than them. they threw eggs. true to my style i managed to avoid getting hit by a flying egg only to trip over one. genius. and after all that buildup and worrying about it it was so good to just yell for a couple hours. in all, it felt good to be a part of. i've also been really impressed with the whole program of the festival. i've always found toronto pride to be really male-centered and vacuous but this here is really balanced with lots of interesting things going on for a wider variety of people. and now, a talk about the gay rights movement in slovenia and then....dancing.

| as it turns out [so far] |
[18 Apr 2007|07:16pm] |
the school is having to change to fit EU language teaching standards with these stupid bloody levels and i guess this has something to do with test structure as well. basically, the reason the grading system is changed is because we're being used as guinea pigs [nice if someone had told us!]. also, we were supposed to get a syllabus. also, the director thinks that because no one else has complained to her about all this that it's just our group. also, there was a meeting about our midterms. our professor didn't go. have spent the day 'not worrying about it' in the way that i get really hyper and clean the hell out of everything. i cleaned the underside of the sink today. then i started knitting another cat. i also decided it would be a good idea to spend much of the day studying czech. mostly working on speaking [to myself] thereby confusing myself before the Polish exam. genius.
then after the exams, the festival starts. http://www.tolerancja.org.pl

sigh. it was finally confirmed today that our rather sudden midterm exam will indeed consist of mostly things we haven't covered in class. again, i can deal because it's still all review for me but still. it is complete bullshit. also, as it's turned out the oral exam is thursday and one person has another class which also has an exam or something at the same time and as she was given no notice because.....as i keep saying, it's not a real school....well. more complaining. i'm going to complain in the form of a letter attached to my exam and footnotes pointing out anything we haven't covered in class.

am currently searching for the [italian] lyrics to quando quando quando. in the process i am on a website that is supposedly lyrics to songs recorded by connie francis. here are some songs on this list that i have a sneaking suspicion connie francis never recorded: me and my nigga thug like me Ru Down Wit Da Goats Cumin' In Ya Ear
apart from a sojourn to tescos where i ended up buying a ridiculous amount of fancy chocolate, i have been knitting a cat all day.

yes. so, i went to this office and it is indeed one of those things where they're looking for lots of people and give everyone a shot before rejecting people. so we had a big mass sort of training day today. it was good. the people are nice. and it's in one of those old town tenements that clearly would have made an amazing flat at some point. so they're assessing the work we did and i should hopefully know by next weekend. and it seems my nausea was directly related to the consumption of cranberry juice. so hopefully it should stop now.
