Here are my top ten results from the career meme everyone is doing: 1. ESL Teacher 2. Foreign Language Instructor 3. Clergy 4. Sports Official 5. Computer Trainer 6. Correctional Officer 7. Historian 8. Medical Illustrator 9. Graphic Designer 10. Artist Ok, 1, 2, and 7 are close enough. Professor was #20, but that's probably cause I said I didn't like writing. Too much damn writing lately. ::scowls:: I assume I got 4, 5, and 6 because I said I like telling people to obey rules. How I got 8, 9, and 10, I have no idea. But 3 is definitely my favorite. Clergy. Really? Interesting indeed.

4:42am: a happy post? on LJ??? unheard of!
Today = best day in months. Just got back from seeing the touring production of THE PRODUCERS (my current absolute favorite movie/musical, in case the icon hadn't clued you in). It was amazing. I was really nervous, honestly, because the touring shows that come here are always ok but not great. But this one. Wow. That's all I can say. They didn't neglect any details ... perfect costuming, perfect casting, amazing scenery. I have nothing to complain about ... well, except that I want to be a chorus girl in a cheesy musical and that's not exactly a career I can pursue on the side (if I could even sing to begin with). I'll have to make do with my fantasizing. And to top it all off, I've been productive lately! Now if I could only calm down so I could go to sleep! Producers!! ::swoons::

Why was I not getting notifications from Myspace the last few months I had an account there (even though I did have my options set to receive them), but now that I deleted my account, I am getting notifications? I can't get rid of them either, because I don't have an account to log into.

6:44pm: birthday post!
Happy Birthday _devoid_! In honor of his birthday, I command all single, hot females to add him as a friend (if you don't already know him). I shouldn't have to explain why. The picture speaks for itself. Go give him love. You can also find him here: http://www.myspace.com/chaos23And no complaining, TJ. This is for your own good.

Grrr ... my new favorite TV show just ended its first season and isn't coming back for a second. Those bastards. How could you refuse this: ::sigh:: Seriously, you guys know I don't usually get worked up about TV. This is unusual. That means it's important. My weeks won't be the same ;-(

6:32pm: CD sale
It’s time for the CD portion of my apartment-cleaning sale. I know CDs don’t take up that much space, but some of these I haven’t listened to in years, and probably shouldn’t even own in the first place, so here it goes. And in case you missed it, the book sale can still be found here. These CDs are used. They should play fine (and if they don’t, I’ll refund your money), but the booklets and tray cards (if I still have them) are clearly used. So I’m selling these for cheap. The price categories are based on how much of the original stuff that goes along with the CD I still have, but as always, prices are flexible. If you want any of these, email me your shipping info and I’ll send them and then email you the total cost. I trust you guys, and suck at estimating shipping costs. And one more note: I do not have the original cases for any of these. If you decide to buy a CD, please specify whether you’d prefer a case (it might be a single case) or a CD envelope. The price is the same, but the latter will probably cost slightly less to ship. ( CDs for sale! )I promise I'll post a real update someday. I just haven't had much to report.

8:17am: want cheap books?
It’s time for my annual lj used book sale ... since I’m moving yet again. So here they are. It’s mostly classical, medieval, and Renaissance stuff, but there are some other books mixed in there as well. Prices are negotiable. Shipping is not included ... if you want any of these, email me your address and which books you want. I will ship them and let you know the total cost. I will most likely post a used CD list in the next couple weeks as well. ( books for sale! )

I decided to forgo all jokes this year and instead choose a picture that symbolizes the transitional nature of this time in our lives. Happy birthday, AJ. I hope the following year brings you everything you've been waiting for.

It's deletion day. If you don't like me but are still pretending to, if you don't care what I have to say, or if you just don't feel like concerning yourself with reading my academic ramblings and frustrated vents anymore, please delete me. I'm hesitant to delete people myself, because I never know who really pays attention but just never happens to comment. If you're one of those people, maybe you should let me know you're here once in a while. I don't comment much either anymore. Livejournal, for me, is becoming increasingly more academic. As I get further into my research and add more people in my field, I find myself posting on communities, in academic filters, and in their journals. And I love that. I get online and am perfectly happy to proofread someone's proposal or read about Gower's blog. And that's pretty much all I read anymore ... that and the journals of my closest friends or friends I've known for years (you know who you are ... especially those of you who have deleted me before and I've thrown a fit ::laughs::). So if I don't know you that well, and you're not following my academic nonsense, you should delete me or comment here and tell me you're reading this and don't want to be deleted. If you've added me and I haven't added you back, comment here and tell me why I should. Or delete me ;-) P.S. diss filter update later, hopefully.

9:42pm: brilliant.
... stolen from dj_burnJamie Raskin - professor of law @ American University to Senator Nancy Jacobs, in regards to her remarks when she was asked to testify in the Maryland legislature on a proposed marriage amendment.. Sen Jacobs - Mr. Raskin, my Bible says marriage is only between a man and a woman. What do you have to say about that? Mr Raskin - Senator, when you took your oath of office, you placed your hand on the Bible and swore to uphold the Constitution. You didn't place your hand on the Constitution and swear to uphold the Bible.

1:01am: waiting for the sleeping pills to kick in ...
So I actually have interesting news.
I have a tiny part in a production of the Nutcracker here. I'm a parent in the party scene in the beginning. Basically I sit around for the whole scene, except for the two times where we get up and do Victorian dances ... you know, the sort you'd see in a period movie, where everyone is dressed up in fancy outfits and the dancing looks more like a series of poses than anything we'd call dancing now. I also have five kids in the show - the eldest I would have had to have when I was about 10, and the youngest is actually the son of my teacher from last semester.
It's a nice distraction from school though, which is good, because this semester still isn't ending fast enough for me.

1:35pm:
Thanks for all the congratulations on the journal article. My older brother said it best: "awww... my little sister is a grownup scholar now!" I'm still giddy, but the stress from all the work I need to do this weekend has fully set in and killed most of the giddiness. I took a break last night though for our local goth/industrial night, and it was actually more fun than I expected. I met interesting new people for the first time in a long time ... too bad they live in Pittsburgh, not here. Pittsburgh is slightly closer than Philly, though, and if I can believe Jim, Acumen Nation is playing there Dec 16th! Say what you will about AN, but I love them. I can't wait until December. But back to the stress. Here's a list of what I have to do by Friday: - make minor revisions on journal article and send it back - grade roughly 90 papers (two pages each) - prepare for teaching Monday and Wed - write the midterm for my students and send draft to teaching mentor - fill out midsemester review sheet for any students who might be failing - Latin translation for Tues - Old English translation for Thurs (and read a couple chapters in our books) - five-page response paper on Alfred's translation of Boethius, due Fri - do research on the medieval zodiac for the prof I work for - collect a few more journal/book articles for the prof I work for Yeah I think that's it. So ... back to grading.

3:14pm: KMFDM tour?
Ok, I just found out that there's a KMFDM tour going on (dates at: http://www.kmfdm.net/tour/). But the US list of dates is very short, and then it says "more US dates coming in 2006." What is going on here? Is this whole tour 2006, just announced a year ahead of time, or are they doing a bit now and then coming back? And why are there NO shows near me ... no Philly? no Pittsburgh? They're touring with Acumen Nation - that's all I care about anyway. I always miss Acumen Nation when they come around. They played NYC the day I left ... I will never forget that. I had a plane ticket already and couldn't stay. ::scowls:: How the hell am I supposed to get to any of these shows? Ohio? Rochester? I think not.

2:31pm: birthday time!
I wanted to take this moment to say happy birthday to my son*, Biomechanic. To celebrate this event, I will shamelessly post a picture from his birthday three years ago**: *I'm sure you can easily determine that he is not my actual son. However, if I were to breed (and you can be sure that I will not), I would hope my kid would turn out just like this one. Well, maybe just like this one but without the predilection for fat goth chicks ... **And before you ask, yes, that is a picture of plastic soldiers battling it out on a Disney cake. Isn't that what every boy wants for his birthday?
