there are times when it would be kind of tasteless to try and find a delicate way to put things.
ou say this isn't about politics? Fuck you, this IS politics, real time, real life politics, where the insanity of all your ideas are exposed to the world for the fraud that they are. Tax cuts kill. Ask the relatives of the dead of the Gulf Coast.

Well, motherfuckers, the alligators are feasting on dead nigger and there isn't an Iraqi in sight. And Bush is trying to gladhand his way through a mess which has stunned FOX reporters. I mean, Shepard Smith is calling Fox's talking heads liars ON THE AIR.

...

Well, motherfuckers, and that means you, fat ass Goldberg and your master, Rich Lowry, PNAC Bitch Beinart, the racist wannabe white Malkin and the little fucktards at LGF, Bareback Andy and "Diversity" Instacracker, all you backstabbing, fag hating uncle tom ministers, you can see Dear Leader in action. America's largest port is gone, maybe forever, gas is $5+ a gallon and FEMA is coming. Whores come faster with old men than FEMA is getting to NOLA.

How did your wartime President react? Like Chiang Kai-Shek when the Yellow River flooded in 1944, with corrupt indifference.

Bush, the man your fever dreams built into the next Winston Churchill when he is really the live action Chauncey Gardiner, has failed to everyone, in plain sight, without question. Rick Perry is trying to save his ass, but it ain't working. NOLA looks like ANGOLA and that ain't flying.

Say 9/11 changed everything now, motherfuckers. Ooops, 9/11, 9/11. 9/11. Doesn't work anymore? Gee, maybe the sea of alligator MRE's once known as the citizens of New Orleans has something to do with that. Now you can shut the fuck up about 9/11. Bush just proved what would happen with another 9/11. Dead Americans as far as the nose can smell.

I could add a few names to that list, but I think the point is made.

Today's Claude Rains Memorial Gambling Awareness award goes out to every. single. one. of our news analysts and think tank pundits and Reasoned Centrists and gimme Libertarians and people who used their vote on the future of the world as a referendum on what complete strangers do with their genitals who has the brass-balled nerve to purport to be shocked that this administration has handled the situation in New Orleans with exactly the same level of attention and competence that they've shown with everything else they've done.

And you people thought it was kinda distasteful to bring it up back when all the bodies were safely stowed away in unphotographed boxes with flags on them. It's all a game of style, isn't it? These people are the kind of people you have to know to move in the right circles and you were raised right. You know how to act around privilege if you wanna get you some of your own. Mustn't be, you know, rude.

Well, look who's tacky now.

When Gloria Vanderbilt's kid is telling sitting Senators on the air about dead bodies being eaten by rats, outrage is definitely the new black.

No, I can't explain how you do that. What Louis Armstrong said. If you have to ask, you'll never know. Just pretend you heard that a bunch of human beings below your personal radar are uselessly, unnecessarily, brutally dead and you give a shit.

Then at some point you might want to put your new skill to work on the war news (you remember the war, right? The one you never did come up with a good reason for but the people who are against it are such a bunch of spivs?) but don't strain yourselves.

That says it.

Steve's rant was indeed most wonderful. Dare I believe that this is the tipping point for Bush?
jmhm From: [info]jmhm Date: September 3rd, 2005 01:35 pm (UTC) (linkie thing)
from your lips to God's ears.

Of course, I expect that the immediate push to abolish the estate tax is going to help some.

I do HOPE this is the tipping point. There's no bailout here.
anne_jumps From: [info]anne_jumps Date: September 3rd, 2005 03:11 pm (UTC) (linkie thing)
My God, I should hope anything WORSE wouldn't be needed.

Thanks for pointing out the rant. It's on point. Every bit. But we're out of line, right? Intemperate, foul-mouthed and treasounous.
jmhm From: [info]jmhm Date: September 3rd, 2005 03:02 pm (UTC) (linkie thing)
Gosh. I really do wonder what the temperate response to this would be.

Why are liberals so blinded by hate?
From: ebonbird Date: September 3rd, 2005 03:35 pm (UTC) (linkie thing)
How do you define blind? How do you define describe hate>
jmhm From: [info]jmhm Date: September 3rd, 2005 03:50 pm (UTC) (linkie thing)
oh, I'm pretty sure that was sarcasm.

My answer would be that we're blinded by hate because we keep having it thrown in our eyes.
anne_jumps From: [info]anne_jumps Date: September 3rd, 2005 04:16 pm (UTC) (linkie thing)
I'm being sarcastic. It's a common rightwing tactic to point to anger from liberals and then say we're "blinded by hate."
wertz From: [info]wertz Date: September 3rd, 2005 04:13 pm (UTC) (linkie thing)
Hell, yeah. Excellent post (and Gilliard's, too.) But you know what? All those CRMGAA recipients' newfound skills are going to atrophy faster than evacuation efforts are shut down over rumors of a shot being fired. Within a fortnight, all criticism of the "rescue operation" will be dismissed as partisan opportunism - and they'll agree, urging us all to "move on".
tlachtga From: [info]tlachtga Date: September 3rd, 2005 04:17 pm (UTC) (linkie thing)

Not to be a pessimist, but...

Here's what I'm afraid of. This ISN'T the tipping point. That things will go back to "normal" as far as the media and most middle Americans (middle class, middle of the country) won't care. Yes, because the people, the victims, are black and/or poor. Racism, classism, are vibrant in this country, and while this event exposes it, it won't change it. I don't think anything will.

Thank you.

Most angry people don't write that well.

No, I can't explain how you do that. What Louis Armstrong said. If you have to ask, you'll never know. Just pretend you heard that a bunch of human beings below your personal radar are uselessly, unnecessarily, brutally dead and you give a shit.

In my mind's eye I see some hapless toadying publicity drone yelling that at the President right before he goes on stage...

Claude Rains

And to John Tierney, especially. Apparently federal bailouts are worse than thousands of dead Creoles.
