Father's Day Report
So in between exercising this morning and buying shoes this afternoon, I
* went to Borders at White Flint looking for poem collections of WC Williams or Robinson Jeffers. Ended up getting Dana Gioia's Interrogations at Noon instead, also, The Looniness of the Long-Distance Runner (sic), by "an out-of-shape Londoner who decides to run the New York Marathon on a dare." Looks fun.
On the way out of the store saw a new Spider-Man hardback collection. Decided to leaf through it a minute. Ended up reading the whole 8-issue arc where Aunt May finds out that Peter is, you know. Pretty good, really - by Straczynski and Romita Jr.
* stopped in Sports Authority to look at elliptical trainers. Found a closeout model for $150 that actually felt pretty good, a lousy, bumpy machine for 300 and a nice one for $400 with more bells and whistles than the closeout model.
* walked over to Barnes & Noble. Looked at the softcover Marvel Masterworks Vol. 2, because I want to get the whole Lee-Ditko run. Put it down and spent 45-odd minutes reading stuff in a selected Jeffers, including some of the prose pieces at the end, including the essay "Poetry, Gongorism and a Thousand Years," which I found quite bracing. Didn't buy it. Got the new issue of Liberty instead.
* Bought shoes. That sent me back to Borders looking for the Jeff Galloway marathon book. Wasn't there. That sent me back to Barnes & Noble, who did have it. Bought it. Finally came home. Also treated myself to two Chewy Fudge cookies from Mrs. Fields, since I was pursuing an active lifestyle and all. Chewy Fudge - my favorite! Came home to lovely cards from Mrs. O, Offering Boy and the Littlest Offering. Have determined I will close out my day - after some lawnmowing - with duckpin bowling with the kids.
See you next year.
