calling all skinny people
I tried to take a load of vintage clothes to sell at Vintage Martini today. They only bought one sweater because the rest had teeny-tiny bits of damage or fading (wow they are picky!). So now I'm looking to give this stuff away to anybody who might like it. Most are Neiman Marcus dresses from the 50's-60's and probably a size 2... although I also have a coat and this cool beatnick black swing jacket that would fit slightly bigger sizes. If anybody is that size and interested in seeing what I have (and you would be willing to pay for shipping to get them), let me know and I'll take pics. I just want them to go to somebody who might use them.

stays workshop
To all the DFW folks on my friends list - is anybody else out there interested in coming to my 18th c. stays workshop? I only have 2 people signed up, and I'm starting to wonder if there's just not enough interest to even bother with it.

anyone? anyone?

18th century lecture
OMG... I'm swooning with excitement today. I've been chatting with the lady who is going to do our 18th c. fashion lecture this May for the costume guild, and it is better than I even imagined. She is an art history professor at UT Austin, and part of her talk will show us examples of Anglo-American 18th c. portraiture and discuss the fantasy vs. reality or what they are wearing in the artwork. (my art-nerd-self is totally *SQUEEING* over that one!!!) The other half of the presentation will include a strip-tease where she shows us all the layers of an 18th c. costume that she will be wearing that day, including discussion about what parts are authenic and what parts are more theatrical, and what she learned along the way as she assembled her first outfit from this period. She will also bring a second outfit that is a more historically accurate "daily-wear" gown to show as comparison.

I'm am SO frickin' excited about this class. I'll try to get the advertising banners and fliers made up for it this week. I hope a lot of you can come to this one - it's going to be a really top-notch class!

DFWCG Events Survey
(Sorry if you are getting this twice, but I also wanted to post this in my personal journal for the locals who aren't on the DFWCG mailing list or the [info]dfwcg community yet.)

Hey you DFW folks! If there is any chance you'll be coming to some of the DFWCG events in the next year, please take a second to fill out this quick survey. We are trying to plan activities that would appeal to as many people as possible, so your feedback would be greatly appreciated. Also, feel free to comment here if you have any thoughts or suggestions for events or classes. It would be a huge help when we start making the schedule!

Thanks!

I almost forgot...
I meant to do this last night, but LJ was down. Check out our amazing new DFW Costumers Guild webpage!!!! I am so in love with our webpage now - it rocks my socks off! And I'm absolutely amazed by all the work put in by [info]thewolfhound, our fabulous webmaster, who fulfilled all of our requests (and more!), and built a really cool interface so we can contribute and edit and such on our own. I just went in to edit one of the event entries, and it was ridiculously easy. That makes me very, very happy.

Somehow it just feels like we are a "real" group now. :)

new DFWCG events
If you are a member of the DFWCG mailing list, then you've already seen this, but I don't want to miss anybody, so I'm going to repeat it here. We have two new very cool workshops coming up later this summer, and everybody is invited, whether you are a member of the guild or not.

Hal is the Chief Curator for Dallas Heritage Village, and he will be showing us antique garments from the museum's collection. This is a fabulous chance to learn more about Victorian clothing from a real expert, and some of the dresses he has to show us are absolutely gorgeous! This lecture is just $1 for guild members and $3 for non-members, and you can click on the banner for more details.

Our hatmaking workshop will be taught by a professional costumer, and although the example shows us an Edwardian style, the basic skills that we will learn could be adapted to almost any era. This one costs $10 for members and $15 for non-members, but that includes the materials for hat construction (buckram, millinery wire, etc.). You can bring your own odds and ends for decoration, or just build the hat base and finish it however you want on your own time. Since we are having to buy supplies and find a room big enough to accommodate everybody, we are requesting that you either RSVP here or on the guild mailing list so we can get a good headcount.

Hope to see you there!
