10:37 am - Get yr hankies out and piss on yourself
Jean Genet are going on a sleater-kinney style 'indefinate hiatus' in september. We'll still be playing the odd one-off gig here and there (eg LADYFEST ESSEN in NOVEMBER!) but for the most part we shall be no more. We are having geographical differences y'see?

So to say goodbye and thankyou to everyone who's supported us and anyone else that wants to have a first/last squizz we're playing a farewell gig on SUNDAY 27th AUGUST at the FENTON, Woodhouse Lane, Leeds. Sunday you say? never fear! that's bank holiday weekend and we will surely be throwing some kinda post gig shin dig...Supports TBC but hopefully the 7 Inches and Fake Tan. Expect extra special surprises too.

In other news, it's the KAFFEQUEERIA FILM FESTIVAL this weekend (14th-16th JULY) in Manchester. It's gonna be awesome, check out the website www.kaffequeeria.org.uk for more info. Our film 'PISS ON YRSELF' -directed by Edgar 'Googie' Frias, inspired by Bruce LaBruce- will be premiered on Sunday as part of it. Please come along.

Thanks for all the support everyone's given us over the last few years. And don't worry, we'll be back like an acid flashback, there's no real escape.

All our glove, Jean Genetxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

p.s. you'll pass this on won't you?

4:10 pm - Bits and Bobs
Nomo Crime was amazing! End of story.

Am posting cos I've not in a while, a variety of things you might like to know:

JG are pencilled in to play a squat party in LEEDS on the 17th JUNE. We know not where the location is yet but I believe Pose Plastique will be playing too and I antiscipate DJs, cake and fun as that's usually the way with these things.

Next gig after that'll be CLUB VIOLET at THE RETRO BAR, MANCHESTER on FRIDAY 23RD JUNE. It's a David Bowie themed night I believe. Guess what cover we'll be playing?

Another possible date one weekend in July, also in Manchester as part of an all-dayer possibly at the roadhouse. But this is yet to be confirmed.

Also we are trying to arrange a date in BORDEAUX, France (woo hoo!) for late AUGUST and we will also be playing LADYFEST ESSEN in NOVEMBER and an anti-pride event in CARDIFF on SEPTEMBER 9TH.

WHAT'S MORE?

We made a film! Tis a rockumentary about us, inspired by Bruce LaBruce's Super 8 1/2, Mr Edgar Frias aka the evil Miss Googie Frias directed and must've edited out about two hours of laughing! It worked very well indeed. The film is called PISS ON YOURSELF and we have submitted it for the KAFFEQUEERIA QUEER FILM FESTIVAL which will be held in manchester in July, so fingers crossed!

Hope yr all chipper, Hel JGxxx

11:35 am - Lesbians on Ecstasy, Michael J Coxx, Jean Genet + Up Late!
What more could you ask for?

Tuesday 25th april @ brudenell social club, leeds 8pm doors, £5 in
LESBIANS ON ECSTASY (alien8 records)

Since their inception a year and a half ago, L.O.E. have been rocking asses and minds across the continent with their slamming live shows. Their unique brand of dance music is humorous, political and sexy. L.O.E. hijack the back catalogue of popular lesbian anthems, dragging them kicking and screaming out of the folk festivals and onto the drugged up revelry of the dance floor. They pillage shamelessly from the likes of Tracy Chapman and Melissa Etheridge, juxtaposing them against Tribe8 or Team Dresch, not forgetting the lesbian standards of the Indigo Girls and others. L.O.E. don't sample these artists, but cheekily reference their themes and lyrics, creating booty shaking dance hits that maintain the politically infused edge of these sapphic songstresses. The infectious spirit of their music, (not unlike the spirit of their infectious sisterhood) is one of sharing and collaboration. L.O.E. embody this spirit in their fusion of dance music and dyke music. Straights and dudes love them too.

The band is fronted by loveable spazz Fruity Frankie on vocals. Bernie Bankrupt supplies the samples, laptop noodling and keyboard lines, while Véronique Mystique rocks out on the monster bass. Jackie the Jackhammer brings the beats on electronic drum pads and live drums. They make for a formidable live unit and have quickly built up a reputation as a party band that delivers the goods.

The musical landscape covered on this debut is vast. Styles range from electro punk to hard techno and straight-up pop. Standout tracks include "Revolt," a moving anthem in which the Lesbians explain their mission to make a dent in the male-dominated world of dance music. The sound on this track is reminiscent of legendary New York out-dance band Liquid Liquid. L.O.E. wink at the Rough Trade classic "High School Confidential," making a hard techno track laced with some serious metal riffage, and render K.D. Lang's "Constant Craving" practically unrecognizable, brilliantly subverting it into an anti-consumerist rant.

In the brief time that they have been together L.O.E. have performed along side the likes of the Chinese Stars, King Cobra, labelmates Les Georges Leningrad, Tracy and the Plastics, Kids On TV and Le Tigre among others.

PLUS SUPPORT FROM...
MICHAEL J COXX sheffield rapper from the gravy train school of sleaze
JEAN GENET local queers peddling bouncy girlboy filth
UP LATE lo fi punk rock from sheffield

Jean Genet play Dublin on Friday, with many other great bands as part of alaf (a lesbian arts festival)...come come come! xx

8pm
The George

Grrrl Rock night kicks off at 8pm on Friday 31st March 2006 in the George. The night is fully funded by the George and all the bands are kindly playing for free.

So it’s the 5th Year for the aLAF Grrrl Rock night in the George. Fancy that. If you’re a music head it’s the one night of the aLAF Festival you cannot miss. Free admission (until 10pm), great atmosphere, live bands, jaysus what more could a girl ask for ??
Leanne Harte - rock

Leanne Harte is an artist, musician, singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist because it's in her blood. She's in Rock'n Roll for the long haul and most importantly, Leanne has got what it takes to one day become a living legend; something that cannot be manufactured.

At just nineteen years of age Leanne Harte's bio seems to read like an old seasoned Rock musicians, and when you hear her play, she damn well sounds like one too. And why not! Leanne started singing and playing acoustic guitar at the early age of eight. By eleven Leanne penned and studio demoed her first ten original songs and received some national radio airplay in Ireland on RTE.

Last August Leanne went to London and Wales to record her nine track debut album with legendary producer Chris Tsangarides (Thin Lizzy, Black Sabbath, Free, Joan Armatrading, Depeche Mode) Leanne recorded the album with Irish guitar legend Gary Moore's backing band, Jon Noyce (Jethro Tull, Gary Moore) on bass and Darrin Mooney (Primal Scream, Gary Moore) on drums and percussion. The album is due for release in 2006.

www.leanneharte.com
Smarty Pants - pop

what do you do when you've soaked up every ounce of pop culture from watching bad girls and hollyoaks, heat magazine has saturated yr mind, you have an obsession for girls who wear knee socks, and you've read too much queer theory? you discover the astounding revelation that you cant and dont want to play guitar so opt for keyboards and drum machine, an easier and lazier altnerative. you write songs about libraries, crushes, discos and jimmy carr and practice once a week in yr bedroom while munching on partyrings and watching the l word.

www.myspace.com/smartypantsdisco
Jean Genet - electro/comedy/pop punk

We're a queer girl/boy duo who write tasteless sordid songs by playing keyboard demos, drum beats and karaoke tracks with the odd badly played guitar riff. We attempt to distract audiences from our lack of talent by dressing cheap and covering our nipples in tit tape.

www.jean-genet.livejournal.com
Nad Mika - electro trash

Näd Mika_ loves to shock and entertain at the same time .She always shocks with crazy mixes of 80's trash stuff crossovered with any kind of Discotech beats as a dj.

She started at small friendsplace partys where she just played her favourite music and the people went insane and dancing their asses off.

It all took about 5 years to let aim in what she always was: A beat kickin' electronic beat bitch which likes to get your genes switched. Right now shocking the crowd with visual overkill on stage with her trashy "friends" Pam Pom, Patsy Puh, Master Clump and Dr.Puszy.

The show is extreme and glamour and trash. It is art and perversion. Most of it is fun and an absolute visual overkill.

9:52 am - What the fuck is going on?
so last night's gig was shambolic to say the least, i am actually still drunk which is the reason i'm 'blogging'. that's how shambolic. don't let that put you off though! we had great fun and went down very well it seems. tonight i have vowed not to do any of the following things:

switch my microphone off half way through a song
switch my keyboard off half way through a song
forget all the words to all our songs
lose all our props (might be a bit late for that now though!)

Am really looking forward to tonight, really wanna get back into the swing of gigging once more.

yrs drunkenly,

Kaffequeeria acoustic JG date = 19th february 2006 (hope this is ok with you heffer!)

So, Elton John got married today and Jean Genet were not invited to play at the ceremony. Nor even to attend! I s'pose our invites might've just got lost in the post... I wonder if the queen was there (stop it!) Oh well, guess we might just have to cut our losses and settle for George Michael.

So our last leeds date for a while, supporting the socially awesome SCREAM CLUB last nite, despite not being able to plug in our keyboard, was muchos fun tho my uber grande wig was not suitable for the climate. some bordering on porno pics can be found at sparklejess lj photo gallery here:

http://jessicarose.fotopic.net/c656543.html

the club were cool as ever, and after the show we recorded a one time jean genet exclusive of our song called 'scream club' recorded in one take on some crappy karaoke microphone, cindy said she was gonna remix it... crazy. then we partied at hanover square. we are harbouring fantasies of being their support band for a us tour... one day, maybe...

(over 'eye of the tiger') in an unintentionally cut up manner. we are rap. you can see some sweaty shots from claire here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/circuitron/sets/751141/ (i can barely update these things let alone do fancy pants links) and there are some beauties by jess that will be on her gallery soon, including a particularly raunchy fist shot. woop!

Scream Club on tuesday we are diggin up some oldies and doing alsmot a full set, suggest ya bring some knitting, a crossword or if you're really hip you'll be doing sudoku...
