Fireside - Lyrics [23 Jan 2008|05:27pm]
This song was chose, more or less unconsciously, I never paid too much attention to its lyrics.
But perhaps it's actually how I do feel, who know?

Don't come close to me,
I won't let you in
And don't you point your finger
That proves that your not housebroken
Maybe I'm the one to blame
Correcting you for what you said
But you came much too close
And I don't want you to think like that

When I keep to myself
Its because I know that I don't have
anything to offer you

I can't keep up with my life,
Too much, too fast
I don't know what to do
I need some time to clear my mind and get it back together
I'm amazed by things you say
And things you do along the way
And if I have the looks you do then maybe I could do that too
But I don't think so

Once in a while, I need to hear that I'm OK
Why can't you tell me that I'm OK?

Movie game [08 Jan 2008|04:37pm]
(stolen from http://marnanel.livejournal.com/1071928.html)

1) Every film on IMDB has plot keywords. Choose three films (that people might have heard of) and click "plot keywords" in the left-hand menu to see their keywords.
2) Post the keywords on your journal. I recommend the use of the "small" tag.
3) Invite people to guess what they are. Looking them up in IMDB is cheating.
4) If you like, post it in your own journal. Post a link in it to here if you like, too.
5) If you like, come back here to post a link to your own post so that people who like playing this game can track this post and follow through to yours.

Istället för ljud [03 Aug 2007|11:41pm]
[This is mainly for my swedish speaking audience, don't complain, I never defined a language norm]

The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated [18 Jul 2007|10:03am]
[ mood | uncomfortable ]

I'm still here in Brazil and I'm doing well. For these of you back home that are worried about me, just relax.
There was a horrible flight disaster at the Congonhas airport in São Paulo yesterday evening, a flight from Porto Alegre attempted to land on a rainy runaway but couldn't make it, passed a 6-lane street and crashed into a building and exploded.

In May 2006 I went to FISL in Porto Alegre, taking off and landing at the same airport, to the same city with the same airline company. In retrospect, I'm very happy it wasn't raining.

Cheese [06 Jul 2007|10:45pm]
[ music | Richard Marx - Right Here Waiting ]

There's something in this song that touches me, something happened to this song when I was young. It was released in the summer of 1989, when I was still 7 years old. It's one of my first musical memories. I didn't understand English well back then, but even to this day the strings has a certain impact on me. Perhaps I danced with that girl at the school dance to this song. Can't remember. Meanwhile I'll listen to it while I attempt to remember.

Vintervila [19 Jun 2007|08:16pm]
[ music | Kent - Vintervila ]

Hon sjunger kärlekssånger för min hud
Hennes tunga skriver mjuka melodier

Refr.

Vi pratar om varandra
Jag låter mina tankar vandra
Hon är tyst och bara andas
i ett litet ögonblick

Hon bläddrar förstrött bland mina skivor
ler och sätter på "Here comes the sun"

Refr.

playing my game [13 Jun 2007|07:32pm]
won't open my mouth
you know what i'll say
it hurts me that it's gotta be this way
i can no longer hide
god knows i've tried
i held on as long as i could
if i could change it i would
this is the way i am
and this is what i do

i cry my tears
but they're not for you
playing a game
i know you've done too
i shouldn't have waited
but still it is all the same
'cause you know
i'm just playing my game

close your ears if you don't like
the sound of my voice
you're acting like i
like i had a choice
but to leave you behind
well, i've made up my mind

i cry my tears
but they're not for you
playing a game
i know you've done too
i shouldn't have waited
but still it is all the same
'cause you know
i'm just playing my game

don't hld me with your eyes
the light in them i cannot see
no need to blind me
there's this darkness where i walk
you thought you had your future
all figured out

i cry...

i cry my tears
but they're not for you
playing a game
i know you've done too
i shouldn't have waited
but still it is all the same
'cause you know
i'm just playing my game

i'm playing my game

Weekend [12 Jun 2007|07:51pm]
Saturday morning, I get a call about 10 from Kiko telling me that we're going to a bike competition Minas, as I didn't have any particular plans for the weekend I gladly agreed. Kiko, Fabia and I left São Carlos around noon to head for Campinas where we switched cars and company to Texeira and his friend. Texeira has apparently won the brazilian championship in bicycling (road bike and mountain) 3 times, but it was a couple of years ago, he's in his 40 but is still a very strong biker, amazing.

In the morning I've found out that the place we're heading for is called Borda de Mata and is very close to Pouso Alegre where my friend Ellen lives. I was quick to tell her that I was going to show up there in the evening and while she couldn't manage to get there before the night we agreed to meet early in the morning after she finished her shift at the hospital, she's studying to become a doctor there and is graduating this year.

We arrived at Borda around 6 o'clock. Borda is a very typical small city of Minas, its difficult to describe in words, but the houses has a special look to them, it looks much better than cities in São Paulo. However we had no place to stay during the night. The official "hotel" of the bike competition was unfortunately already filled up. Or fortunately perhaps because the hotel we eventually found was apparently a lot better. We sorted out the sleeping problem and headed out to find something to eat. The first thing we noticed was that people were preparing for a corn party at the main plaza in the city.
Unfortunately for our stomachs it hadn't quite started so we went for a mini-pizza and açai with condensed milk, yummy! Eventually the party would start so we headed over there to get some yummy food made out of Corn. I'm not actually sure how to describe what we got, but one of the things were small parcels with a sweet substance made of milk wrapped in corn leaves, the other one is called "pastel" and is the size of a small taco but softer and with cheese filling inside. Yum.

At dawn we woke up to have breakfast and I realized that Borda is very cold! It was maybe 8 degrees, eventually it would be much warmer, but the morning was horrible! The race started in the same praca where they had a fruit and vegetable market in the morning. The race started and shortly afterwards Ellen arrived and we quickly tried to found how to arrive in Tocos de Mogi which was the first "post" during the race. It turned out that the quickest was was to follow the actual route where Kiko and the other bikers actually went. It's not ideal for a car, especially not one with out a 4-wheel drive. As we continued to drive we'd see the magnificent country side and once in a while a biker.
Most of the participants were already walking with their bikes in the beginning, you'd have to remember that we're almost no flat parts of the course, only uphills and downhills. Eventually we'd reach Kiko and two other bikers in the camp. It turned out that they went much faster than we dared to do by car downhills, it was only thanks to the uphills we could catch up at all. It was a great moment, sitting in a car talking to Ellen and following the race from a close range. After about 4 hours we'd reach the end station which is called Paraisópolis and is a little bit larger than the other towns but still beautiful. Kiko finished in 2nd place and Texeira in 4th, we'd have to wait hours for the rest of the bikers to arrive so the prize ceremony could happen.
Ellen had to leave a little bit earlier so she could sleep a little bit before going on to a 24h hospital shift. I can't really understand how she can stand only sleeping 2 hours per day and still manage to stay awake and focused.

At night we were in a little bit of a rush to get back to Campinas so we could get a bus back to São Carlos. It took a little bit longer than we originally anticipated but that probably wouldn't matter anyway. It turned out all buses to all nearby towns were filled since a long time ago.
After some fiddling we took a bus to Jáu and jump off a couple of kilometers before São Carlos. So we did and Gui finally came and picked us up.

Great weekend, I have to start training (eg, wake up early in the morning to go biking) so I can participate in these races.

I actually did, this morning (tuesday) I took off to go with Kiko on the road, I did about 70 kilometers, the last 15 very slowly, but I arrived in the end and showed up in the office at 11.

Om hon nångång tittat in, in under sitt skinn.

Sunday [28 May 2007|02:18pm]
Pretty eventful sunday, for once.
  • Watched a bike race close to Campinas where Kiko participated in the morning
  • Went to see O Corpo Humano in São Paulo, which was an exhibition of the human body. All of the parts used in the exhibition were real bodies. I especially enjoyed the ones which showed the blood circulation, truly amazing!
  • Excellent dinner at Rascal at in São Paulo (remember address at Alameda Campinas), very chique restaurant but great food!
  • Bus back to São Carlos in the middle of the night, I even managed to sleep most of it this time!

[ music | Kent - Chans ]

I trängseln utanför
Sen december ingen snö
Jag följer efter dig
genom kön

Du stryker fingrarna
lätt mot min kind

Och i ett ögonblick
då allt står still
så får jag en chans att säga
allt det jag aldrig sagt
så får jag en chans att ge dig
allt det du aldrig haft
Men var för feg

Det finns ett enkelt svar
Du är varm när jag är kall
Du tar så lite plats
Jag tar allt

Jag trycker läpparna
lätt mot din hals

Jag frågar "gråter du?"
Du smakar salt

Du gav mig en chans att säga
allt det jag aldrig sagt
Du gav mig att en chans att ge dig
allt det jag aldrig ger dig

Dom små små orden är svåra ord
Och de hårda orden är enkla ord
Jag fick chansen, du gav mig chansen
men nu är det för sent
Nu är det för sent

Longing for unhappiness [28 Apr 2007|11:00am]

How come that Eldkvarn's Kärlekens tunga is so fantastic?

I never want to be happy again. Then I'll lose the joy of listening to Kärlekens Tunga for hours. Just Plura and me, forever.

[26 Mar 2007|11:07pm]
Movies that I have seen this year:

Hook,
La Mala Educaion,
Little Miss Sunshine,
Chinjeolhan geumjassi,
Snakes on a Plane,
The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou,
Children of Men,
The African Queen,
Brother,
El Laberinto del Fauno,
Gandhi,
The Prestige,
La Battaglia di Algeri,
Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari,
Metropolis,
Ladri di biciclette,
Jaws,
Judgment at Nuremberg,
The Philadelphia Story,
Strangers on a Train,
La Belle et la bête,
The Adventures Of Robin Hood,
Babel,
Das Lebe Der Anderes,
The Wild Bunch,
Mou Gaan Gou.

Quite a few, a bit below my personal average, but higher than lately. There are an abnormal number of movies from the twofifty list, as an attentive reader might have noticed. There are quite a few real pearls in there. The Life Acquatic with Steve Zissou</a> was hilarious, I think it even topped The Royal Tenenbaums, especially since it got another kind of style. Children of Men came as a real surprise, much better than I originally anticipated. Gandhi is a master piece, perhaps not so much because of the movie as of Gandhi himself, it touched me enormously. The Cabinet of Dr Caligari was another surprise, while at times quite boring because of the aging technologies (no surprise since it's from the early 20ies), but even so it had amazing actors and an unbelievable cinematography, at times I felt like I was inside a Dali painting. Metropolis was also similar, it was sad to see it because about a fifth of the movie has been lost, I really wanted to see the whole story. The Philadelphia Story is one of these really funny movies, James Stewart has this kind of character which is in a role he doesn't seem to belong in, hilarious and very surprising.
I'm learning to appreciate Hitchcook more and more and I am always setting high expectations on all movies of him I watch, even so for Strangers on a Train which actually surpassed my expectations. I don't think I can recall such a creepy villain in any recent movies I've seen. He was absolutely terrifying. Das Leben der Anderes also caught me by surprised, it felt a little close since DDR is not that close from Sweden and I can remember that my mother (or was it teachers?) threatened me that Stasi would come after me if I did something bad.

I'm still waiting for one of these life changing movies. Which will be the best movie I watch this year?

Btw, I'm getting really close to finishing the whole top 250, perhaps this will be the year?

Flen/Paris (Flen/Paris)

Deixe me manter isso aqui
Eu posso ser merecedor disso
Venha e destrua meu mundo
É tudo que anseio

Desejo que eu estivesse aí agora
Desejo que eu estivesse aí agora
Desejo que eu estivesse aí agora

Desejo que eu estivesse aí agora
Desejo que eu estivesse aí agora
Desejo que eu estivesse aí agora

Desejo que eu estivesse aí agora

Desejo que eu estivesse aí

Não foi meu nome que você escreveu
Desejo que eu estivesse aí agora

Embaixo da ponte em uma cidade
Desejo que eu estivesse aí agora

E não me recordo onde
Desejo que eu estivesse aí agora

Embaixo da ponte em uma cidade
Lá você e eu restamos

Random Ramblings [24 Jul 2006|11:05pm]
Been a couple of months since I last blogged. I figured that I should probably try to make an effort and add a new entry, to see if anyone actually reads this blog.

I've made one blog post, which was highly technical so it doesn't really count in the last 3 months. Since then a couple of things happened.

I went to FISL and Porto Alegre in April where I had a presentation about Python and Gtk, which I work with.
Apparently the organizers decided that I should be in the huge main room in which about 400-500 people fits. And if it wasn't enough, to be able to make sure that all seats were filled during the presentation they just had to put Richard Stallman after me. Anyway, it went Okay. It could have been a lot worse and it could have been better. It was recorded on video, so if you really want to see me being nervous and making mistakes you should be able to buy a recording on a DVD.

It was my first time in Porto Alegre and Rio Grande Do Sul, the southermost state of Brazil. It was kinda cold, it was in the middle of the autumn, so 14-15 degrees on average. My friends keep telling me that I'm not swedish any longer, that I completely absorbed the temperature and lifestyle of Brazil.

May was mostly filled with doing Gtk+ hacking for Nokia, which was lots of fun. In June we got sandbagged so I had to standin as a project manager for Stoq, going so so. In the end of the month I went to GUADEC which was in Vila Nova i la Geltru. I did a presentation there which went better. It was also smaller with a much more comfortable audience.
Very pleasant to meet all good old friends, Wim, Thomas, Christian & Lorenzo. Also joyful to meet all these new faces. Unfortunately I managed to drink just a little bit too much as a certain beach party and well, the rest can be read on various other internet blogs.

So far, the month of July hasn't really been very eventful. No news is good news I guess.
The last couple of weeks has been tumbling emotionally. Which has upsides and downsides.
At least I'm feeling something. We'll see where we end up in the end.
