03:00 pm - Walked out the door this morning
I was a little late for work . . . Erik beat me out the door . . .that doesn't happen terribly often.
As I was in the kitchen putting on my jacket, I saw the umbrella for the patio table rocking back and forth.
I went outside to close it and promptly got very wet. Walked out the door, closed the garage door, and headed out for work.
RAIN!!
I was thinking a week ago that it needed to hurry up and start raining . . . I didn't think that the rain gods would listen
to me quite so suddenly.
Tahoe is supposed to get between 1 and 2 feet of snow by the end of tonight.
This makes me very happy . . . that and the fact that I can turn off the sprinkler system for awhile.

HeeHee!!

11:42 am - To whom it may concern
Those CMU alums in the Bay Area, I was looking at the Carnival dates for the year and looked at prices from SFO to Pittsburgh.
Leave Thursday April 15th in the morning,7am, and return Sunday the 18th at night, 10:44pm.
Round trip nonstop on USAIR for $237.70.
Not too shabby. There are also other times with the same price.

01:59 pm - Spoiling myself rotten
I haven't been buying much of anything while I was sick. Missed a month or so of different movies and stuff coming out.
This week I bought the Lord of the Rings:2 Towers, XMEN-2, and Pirates as really new things.
Today I just bought the Battlestar Galactica original series boxed set cause Fry's had it for pretty cheap this weekend.
I need to stop buying myself toys and buy some for others.

First
SSX 3 came out yesterday and I got it.
It is fricking gorgeous!!!
It is more pretty than SSX and has the added moves and character enhancements of SSX Tricky.
At first blush, it looks like a game well worth getting if you enjoyed SSX or SSX Tricky.

12:05 pm - HA HA!
In my mind the subject line is Nelson from the Simpsons laughing.
I saw this quote in "NOTABLE QUOTES" on news.yahoo.com and had to share.

"I've been lucky because I do regard myself as a slightly aging character and I've been able to be in scenes with delightful women, like KATE WINSLET, CATE BLANCHETT, SALMA HAYEK, GOLDIE HAWN ... It's been a perk of the job. And the prettiest of all, of course, was JOHNNY DEPP."
-- actor GEOFFREY RUSH, appearing on "The Sharon Osbourne Show," talking about his on-screen liaisons.

01:49 pm - Things are a looking up
I went to the gym downstairs from my office yesterday evening, and ended up staying in the office until 8pm. Not a bad thing all told. I am sore in all kinds of good ways after the workout. Gotta go again tonight.
Made great headway on several simulation issues that I had last night and now moving onto some more interesting ones.
Still no response from the TiVo repair people who are overcharging me.
Need to call Matt and make sure we are climbing this weekend.
On the way back to work after lunch it started raining outside . . . WTF!!! This is August, this isn't supposed to happen at this time of year. Glad I didn't ride the bike today.

05:59 pm - Just checking out CNN.com
. . .
and I saw this article about private file sharing networks where people setup their own little encrypted peer to peer network with an encryption key to keep identities and the traffic secure from prying eyes, and the admittance is by invitation only. I heard an idea similar to it bandied about by some people a couple of years ago.
The RIAA is saying this won't stop them from going after you.
What I wonder is this . . . won't the DMCA make any attempts at subverting the encryption of the transfers a violation of Federal Law and hence inadmissable in court and in fact prosecutable?

One of those things that make you go "Hmmmm"

Oooooh!! Arsenio flashback!!!

04:28 pm - Well, I'm back . . .
The weekend was enjoyable and it is good to be home.
The highlights of the weekend included seeing old friends, spending time with family, closing a bar, and a very pleasant dinner at a four star restaraunt in Houston.
It managed to rain when I flew in and when I flew out as well as a little during the trip.
I slept in and ate well . . . now I gotta go to the gym. Luckily they are opening a gym downstairs at my office tomorrow.
Also a note to myself to check out the Plumpjack vineyard and bring money.

11:23 am - Sex, Lies and Videotape
or DVD's maybe?
Was looking at CNN.com today and noticed that a newly restored set of DVD's of Charlie Chaplin are being released.
This makes me happy and sad. Happy cause I can get them in a restored set now . . . sad because I need to spend more money to get them.
Next week they are releasing some of his Essanay and Mutual comedies he did early in his career, prior to UA.
Yech . . . more money to spend!!

12:10 pm - Weekend Goodness
Got invited for a climbing trip by [info]tshuma along with [info]angelbob and some others I had never met before, to go to Mt Tam. Had a good time, though only went up one route, still pretty out of it for climbing.
After climbing hiked up to the summit where the routes were set and, I have to quote [info]angelbob here, the view was "Godlike". We had an almost totally unobstructed view from the river feeding the Bay east of the Carquinez bridge all the way over the the Bay side of the Golden Gate. As soon as you hit the Golden Gate there was a floor of fog that stretched as far as I could see out to sea.
Afterwards drove down to Berkeley to join ma3d's barbecue. Mmmmm slow roasted pork shoulder sandwiches. Had beer and food and a good old time just chillin.
Sunday my legs were telling me they didn't like me anymore from the hiking, and I just lazed about the apartment basking in the glory of Air Conditioning.
Today I have found a decent amount of work waiting for me, which I should get back to and a seating reservation on my outbound flight for Houston on Thursday morning. I was afraid I would get there at 5am and have to wait until noon for a flight because I got bumped.
Woohoo!!

10:00 am - We're all going to hell
Yesterday a Senator, and chairman of the Senate Judiciary committee, proposes violating several federal statutes to enforce another one.
Today Norma McCorvey, also known by publicly as Jane Roe (yes boys and girls this is Roe from Roe V Wade that landmark Supreme Court case and political hotbed), has asked for the case to be overturned.

*shakes head and laughs*
You gotta laugh or else you'll cry.

11:10 am - Out late, up late and had a good time
Met up with [info]bk2w at his place after work and went for burgers at Fuddruckers last night. Had an interesting talk about DSP's, Fourier and Laplace transforms and signal analysis. Over burgers discussed a little of the new Opteron processor and the ramifications on shared libraries in Linux. Went next door to the theatre and caught a late show of "Bend it Like Beckham" which was frickin awesome . . . a very good call if I do say so myself, course I recommended the movie. Afterwards, saw a Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 Spyder, mmmm hard top convertible, on the way out of the parking lot and decided it was worth circling a couple of times.
On the drive home had a conversation about gun safety which devolved into societal reactions to guns in general and the mechanics of firearms. And color changing paint jobs got figured in there somewhere as well. Is it just me or do we have weird conversations?
The night was very pleasant, I started this day feeling very good . . . even though I got to work a half hour late.

08:54 am - So it's been a while
I finally have a kitchen of stuff, need to do that big grocery shopping trip, but first have to get the last of the things out of the old refrigerator. The garage and my closet remain to be cleared, after that cleaning . . . yeah (twirls finger)
Spent last Saturday driving to Sacramento with Larry and his dad. It was a fun trip, got to meet some old friends of the family. It's strange sitting at a table over lunch and listening to people talk about events of WWII like they were yesterday.
Need to catch up on news now, and head into work.

03:38 pm - Moving and other fun stuff
So this weekend I moved to a new apartment. It was a fun filled day of grunting and heaving. I managed, with the aid of Tim, Rieko and Rick and their son, Oscar, and Guru from work, to get all of the big and heavy stuff into the new apartment on Saturday. Sunday was spent unpacking, watching Daredevil, and working on some stuff at the office I also discovered Sunday morning that the drain pipe for the washer was clogged. Monday, more unpacking and the apartment maintenance dude came by with a snake to work on the drain pipe. Monday night I was able to do laundry and almost finished unpackin everything. This morning the Cable Guy came by, on time (SHOCK!!!), and installed ny cable and internet connection. Things are actually going along well. Now I get to get the WLAN and Cable Router working properly and things will almost be back to normal.
