So, to make a change from whining, I've thrown together a page on my first attempts to duplicate various kinds of dagging (NOT 12th century, but something I've been curious about for quite some time). The first installment covers the fragments shown in Textiles and Clothing, and can be seen here.
Ambitious plans for this include tackling samples of other styles, including horse barding (I even have someone to give it to) and the compound cross-shaped pinked dags on Mrs. Arnolfini in the Van Eyck portrait. But all that's in the future. You get to look at the Very Beginning :)
ETA: Actually got the Arnolfini sample done and added.

Some day I will have the nerve to dag the edges of a garment by just cutting into it and leaving it at that - but I've so far never had the nerve to - too worried that it would fray away to nothing and leave me with nothing but a frayed rag to show for the time spent makign the damned thing...{g}
