GAFilk was fun.
I am still getting back into the swing of things after GAFilk. I still
have my suitcase in the car... The long drive though the rain, the long drive back, short nap, and
going to work was all worth it. I had a blast.

Nothing seemed to dampen the mood, even when Portia, the waitress at Waffle House spilled Orange juice on me... (Hey, I have extra shirts, I
don't have to rush to work...) Dave Alway and I couldn't stop laughing
at that breakfast. Even better, she asked if I would like a piece of
pie, and they had chocolate, and lemon... I asked for lemon, and forgot
about it while Dave explained the *real* origin of the dandelion motto
on his buttons. Then Portia came back with a slice of chocolate pie. We
just started laughing harder. The pie was delicious, and we never did
tell Portia, she was having enough of a bad day... GAFilk is definately
a relax-a-con.

I loved the house band for the banquet, they were quite
good. Tanya Huff, Steve Savitzky, Terri Wachowiak were wonderful (I
missed Kathleen Sloan and the interfilk auction... something about
needing sleep after being up for 19 hours). And so were the one shots.
I got to listen to Terrence Chua, Andrea Dale, Mary, David Weingart
and a bunch of other talented people. I did stick around for the dead dog,
and got to listen to[info]autographedcat , </span>[info]filker0 and </span></b></a>[info]

Oh, my, yes. Portia may have had a bad day, but she was dealing with it. She was a real character, and for a long time the name "Portia" will have "an extroverted statuesque black woman from Georgia" attached to it in my mind. John F. and I saw her at work on Monday morning when we ate at the Cemetary Waffle House before leaving. She remembered me, and wondered where you were — I told her you'd already left (although I didn't know if that was true or not).

Our server on Monday, Jenny, was almost the opposite in attributes: rather quiet, smaller and more delicate physically. Although we did get her smiling at the end of our late breakfast.

Portia will remain in my memorey for a while too. I am not supprised that you had Jenny smiling by the time you left. Glad you made it home safe and sound. As for my trip, I left around two am after a nice nap, and was home by ten am and asleep by a quarter past... but I had to lift my weary head by half past two, and go to work. Ah, but I was relaxed, and ready for the day.
