University of Mississippi had planned to carry the debate live on their website tonight, however the site crashed and as of 6:49pm pacific time still isn't up (debates started at 6 our time). I'm willing to bet money the tech people tried to tell them they needed more of everything to handle the load and that the school said no to the expenses. Now the poor tech person or people are running around trying to get things back up all while muttering that they told this would happen.

So I've come to realization to that I can no longer talk about hauk. In fact I think I'm going to have to ban talking about him altogether unless it's late at night or he's on the phone. Why? Because if Hauk is mentioned around Kimberly and he's not there to talk to I will often end up with Kimberly going on and on about "Hi Hauk" and wanting to talk to him right then. Kid can be demanding and persistent when she wants something.

It's a strange thing to be a parent and faced with the same choice your parents were, to make the same decision for much the same reasons, and to know that when your parents made that decision you never forgave them then hope that your child won't even have a reason to need to forgive you for the choice you've made.

I have tried to ignore and brush aside my fear for Kimberly but I realize now it's been coming out in my dreams that I'm only just remembering. Nightmares of her body torn, bloody, naked, defenseless, but not dead, instead she's trapped in it. How do you protect a child from gentle poison without making them mistrustful and closed off? You can't protect a child from every danger and only a fool thinks over-protection is less harmful than under-protection.

I'm not going to make a different decision because of fear, least of all a fear of something that could happen either way, but that doesn't chase away the nightmares. Instead I'll just accept the fear and the nightmares and move forward.

If Dennis doesn't come out here soon and let me go lay down I think I'm going to kill something. He's laying down and I'm giving him all the time he needs since he didn't sleep well last night, however I'm beginning to think I didn't sleep well either. Stupid OxyContin sleep. I'm so on edge and growly right now and I'm barely staying awake. I think I'll give it another half an hour before I cry uncle* and go wake him up.

Note to self: Take the Ambien tonight!

Back in 2001 I was just as big a fan of The Daily Show as I am now and it wasn't until The Daily Show started back up on 9/20/01 that I felt like the world was moving forward after the attacks. The Daily Show was the only thing I watched that engaged my mind and made me laugh, and at that point I needed to laugh or the despair would eat me alive. What he said the night he came back on the air has always been to me the most poignant statement on the attacks ever made. I've linked to the video below.
