So I was out in the garden tidying some stuff up - hey, it's like 50 out, I can tidy in this weather - and Bella was keeping me company. Until she decided it would be fun to jump down the cliff. She's done this a couple times before and come right back when called, no problem...only this time, not so much.
She went too far, crashed through some brush, and got trapped in a largish area with no way back out. So
nlanza and I had to go get her, clambering down the steep cliff with cheese (for bribes and comfort) and a leash. We had to lift her over some bits on the way back up. Meh. Gave her a quick check-over, and she seemed OK, so we got cleaned up and went to get lunch and groceries.
Came back, let her out of the kitchen, and she bounced happily into the living room and then yelped. Hooboy. The yelping was because she'd done...something...to her foot. One of the pads has a slash across it. We cleaned it out & did all appropriate first aid - it's not too deep - but we can't figure out what happened. We couldn't find anything that she could have cut herself on from the kitchen to the living room (where the first splash of blood is, and the yelp-site). There was no dirt or anything in the cut, like she'd gotten it on the cliff, not to mention this was 2 hours afterwards, so you'd think there would have been some blood in the kitchen or something.... Right now she's napping in her crate, and seems otherwise completely OK, but damn. It has NOT been a good dog day here - she started it out by barking after I brought her in from her morning outing - and then the escape and then this.
RAR. Why did I want a dog, again? Possibly I was TEMPORARILY INSANE.
Still.
Most days she figures we worth it.
Most days.

I'll wish her speedy healing.
Is there a carpet staple where she hurt her foot?
Sometimes an edge pops up.
