Today was my wife's birthday. I didn't update this journal all weekend because I spent most of it getting ready for the festivities. (At least what part I didn't spend at the Vogue or recovering from being at the Vogue.) Hey, it was as good an excuse as any to do some spring cleaning! (Even if Anita did more than her share.)

So we had some friends over, at least the ones that (1) didn't go to Wiscon AND (2) were not feeling under the weather. The weather itself was fine; cloudy and somewhat cool. And those who came seemed to have a good time.

I deep-fried a turkey -- about fourteen and a half pounds of bird. It took about an hour to cook and I think it was down to a skeleton in less three quarters of that. Everyone seemed to like it! Then much talk, some beers, the blowing out of the candles, cake, ice cream and more talk.

After the bulk of the guests left the rest of us ended up watching Doctor Who episodes that I had downloaded from the Internet. During the party I also had our DSM streaming music from my computer and simultaneously doing a random slideshow of the several thousand pictures there to the TV. I was surprised (and rather gratified) by how much people seemed to enjoy the pictures -- occasional shouts of surprise when they recognized someone and even oohs and ahhs for the landscape/wildlife shots. I hadn't really meant them as anything more than wallpaper.

Anyway, it was worth all the effort. Anita might be another year older, but that is only another year better. I'm glad I get to grow old with her...
