Best comedy show ever
I went to see Patton Oswalt tonight at Cobbs.
sumanah and I got seats front row center.
Brent Weinbach, who I've seen for some time now was the MC. He had some new bits that were pretty fuckin' funny.
The feature act was Tony Camin who talked to
sumanah for most of his routine. The riffs were pretty good. He tried to riff on me but I chickened out.
Arj Barker then surprised us with a five minute bit. I've never been a huge Arj fan. Most of the routines I remember were pot humor. That's pretty much expected for a guy who cowrote the Marijuanalogues. Not my thing though. I just never found pot all that fun much less funny. He did some .net humor tonight. It was a good set.
Oswalt hit the stage and was in top form. This was even more impressive given he'd just gone through hellish experience flying out from Burbank where he had to transfer to three different planes before they had one that could get off the runway. He didn't even have time to change at the hotel.
Oswalt is my favorite comic and has been for about a year now. He's a solid writer, a brilliant editor and can throw around literary references without making it sound like he's throwing around literary references. When other comics try to do that, they stumble and look like Stewie or worse, Dennis Miller. I'd heard probably fifty percent of these routines before. It didn't matter. Funny is funny.
Oswalt did a little meet and greet after the show. I chatted with him about his lunch last week with Warren Ellis. I also told him I've seen my share of comedy and this was by far the best set I'd ever seen. So now I'm a total stalker. He was pretty stunned by that. The compliment I mean, not the stalking.
So how was your day dear?
