| Funny Ha Ha's...an Insane Ian Update 7/18/08 |
[18 Jul 2008|10:39pm] |
Wow, has it been a month already? So what have you guys been up to? Here's an update on all of my cool stuff!
In this update: --Vote and Request!-- --Insane Ian Conquers Dr Demento!-- --Insane Ian Receives Imaginary Honor!-- --New FuMP (sort of)!-- --New Website (almost)!--
--VOTE AND REQUEST--
First, let me thank ALL of you who have taken your time to vote for my stuff on the Mad Music Dementia Top 20 every week. Thanks to you, my songs have been doing better than I could have ever imagined. That said, it couldn't hurt if they did even better, right?
So, I would really love it if you folks would take some time (again) to vote for my songs "Hey There, Hermione" and "Guitar Hero" over at The Mad Music Dementia Top 20. They've dropped off the countdown, and we need to get them back, don't we? If you haven't voted before, you need to register for the site. It's free, takes a couple of seconds, and you'd be helping spread the word of my music...and I'd love ya for it!
--INSANE IAN CONQUERS DR DEMENTO!--
Well, sort of. My song, "Guitar Hero" was the NUMBER EIGHT most requested song for the month of June! Woo hoo! Thanks again to everyone who requested. Now let's see if we can get it to the Funny 25 at the end of the year! Keeping requesting the tune at Dr D's Website and then...THE WORLD!
--INSANE IAN RECEIVES IMAGINARY HONOR!--
So, Friday the 11th I had another opportunity to see Weird Al in concert here in MD. After the amazing show, I go backstage to talk to Al and inform him of my good news on the Dr. Demento show. The conversation goes a little something like this:
ME: So, Al, do you get a chance to listen to Dr D much anymore?
AL: Sadly, not as much as I used to.
ME: Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but last month, on the Top 10 for June...your song was number NINE. And MY song was number EIGHT!
AL: (laughing) Well, congratulations!
ME: (shaking my fist, mockingly) I just just want to let you know...I'm coming for you, Al!
AL: (smiling) Well, I hand over my crown to you...
Wait, what did he say? HE HANDS HIS CROWN TO ME? WOW! Now, sure, he may have been just kidding around, but thats still AWESOME to hear! I even have witnesses!
So awesome! HA!
--NEW FUMP (SORT OF)--
On July 28th (hopefully) there will be a new Insane Ian FuMP! Well, sort of...his old hip-hop group PuddinG CapacitY unearthed an old forgotten relic from the vaults...and it's unlike anything you've heard from them before. We're still waiting on the FuMP's approval of the tune. Then, shortly after, a brand new Insane Ian single should be hitting the 'net!
--NEW WEBSITE (ALMOST!)--
So, InsaneIan.com is live...and still being worked on. So far, there's news and music and a frontpage...and that's about it. But it's there and info on pre-ordering the new album should be up soon. Bookmark it! You know you want to!
That's all for this month. Hopefully I should have more info on some of the cool projects I'm working on that I can't talk about JUST yet..stuff for the album (which if all goes well should be done and ready by the end of August). Stay tuned, kids, and once again, thanks for all your love and support!

[19 Jun 2008|02:10am] |
Hey friends..as you may or may not know, I just recently released a new song from my upcoming album, "n3rds0ngs", entitled, "Hey There, Hermione", a parody of "Hey There, Delilah" by the Plain White T's.
Well, so far, it my last single "Guitar Hero" has dropped off the Mad Music Dementia Top 20 countdown...and I need to get it back on there (as well as getting "Hey There, Hermione" on the countdown).
So what can you do to help? Same thing as last time...vote! Sign in to the Mad Music Archive and go here:
http://www.themadmusicarchive.com/top20voting.aspx
And vote for my two songs. If you're not already a member of the archive, sign up is free and only takes a few seconds, and you'd really be helping me out.
Also...Dr. Demento has a countdown too! Your requests help get "Guitar Hero" played on the air...now maybe we can see if we can break the top ten! It'll take some doing but just going to:
http://www.drdemento.com/request/
And telling him you want to hear the song again is a good start...maybe enough of you dear people can help me crack the countdown!
Thanks again for all your help before and any help you can provide now...and stay demented!

| New Song! |
[15 Jun 2008|10:45am] |
This is probably the "filk-iest" song I've ever written. Each verse is one book from the seven novels in...um...a very famous book series about a wizard school, and is written from the perspective of...a secondary character. It parodies one of the most parodied songs of last year, "Hey There, Delilah" by The Plain White T's. Also...Grawp, if you don't follow the books, is Hagrid's half brother...and speaks little English. For more on Insane Ian and his upcoming album, n3rds0ngs, go to www.myspace.com/n3rds0ngs or the upcoming www.insaneian.com

[06 Jun 2008|05:36pm] |
In the tradition of the great Luke Ski and Sudden Death, I'llbe doing one of these every month. So here's this one!
Stuff in this update: -Request "Guitar Hero" on the Dr. Demento Show! -Vote for "Guitar Hero" on the Mad Music Dementia Top 20! -Vote "funny" for Insane Ian! -New FuMP coming soon! -Insane Ian and Michael C. Stettes on the "Hey Birthday Boy" compilation!
--REQUEST "GUITAR HERO" ON THE DR. DEMENTO SHOW!--
First, i want to say thanks to all of you who requested the song before and got GUITAR HERO played on Mother's Day weekend on the Dr. Demento show. BUT LET'S SEE IF WE CAN DO IT AGAIN!
I need your help, friends. Go to:
www.drdemento.com/request
and request GUITAR HERO by Insane Ian again! AND AGAIN! Let's see if i can break intothe monthly top ten! Also, this way you can helpus make the good Dr. aware of Insane Ian as an artist, so he's more likely to play my NEW upcoming track!
--VOTE FOR "GUITAR HERO" ON THE MAD MUSIC DEMENTIA TOP 20!--
Again, thanks so much to all who have been voting for my song on the Mad Music Dementia Top 20 podcast, i really appreciate it! I was number one TWICE, but I have slowly dropped in the rankings, and I need your help to climb the charts again! To vote go to:
http://www.themadmusicarchive.com/top20voting.aspx
and click on my song (Guitar Hero - single mix). You DO have to register for the site, but it's free, takes only a second, and is a great resource for other comedy music artists like myself!
--VOTE "FUNNY" FOR INSANE IAN!--
My music video for GUITAR HERO is now on Funnyordie.com! Youcan go there and vote "funny" at:
http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/ec5adf43b7
Once again...I'm shamelessly asking for you to make me famous! Hell, I'll take "internet famous" as it is!
--NEW FuMP COMING SOON!--
We just finished tracking the next song from Insane Ian's upcoming album "n3rds0ngs", parodying one of the most parodied songs of last year, with the subject of one of the world's most best-known book series. This is probably my filk-iest song I've ever written, so it should be fun, and it'll be hitting the FuMP sideshow soon! Stay tuned!
--INSANE IAN AND MICHAEL C. STETTES ON THE "HEY BIRTHDAY BOY" COMPILATION!--
During that same recording session for the new single, Insane Ian and his recording friend Mike finished up not one, not two but FOUR versions of "Hey Birthday Boy" for the Spaff.com compilation of the same name, due out...um...sometime this year! For more details, visit:
http://www.spaff.com/birthday
And thus we end this week's update. There's an insaneian.com coming soon...just as soon as my web browser allows me to actually use the dang program to build it!

| Happy Fifth Aniversary, Stacey and Ian! |
[25 May 2008|10:06pm] |
|
So, yesterday was me and my girlfriend's five year anniversary. We went out to diner down at the inner harbor (Cheesecake Factory) and THE PLAN was to take one of those horse drawn carriages around the harbor and propose on that.
Well, there weren't any. So we waked around the harbor, looking for "something to do". Wanted to go to the "Top of the World" at the Baltimore WTC, but it was closed. Wanted to take a boat ride, but they were closed.
Then, while walking around, I spied on the ground a small square that said "Official Engagement Spot" with a circle inside that said "place knee here". If ever there was a literal translation of "waiting for a sign" this was it.
I dropped to one knee and pulled the ring out of my coat pocket. Three chattery girls were nearby and without me being able to say anything, they all squealed and said "this only happens like this in the movies!" Great, as is typical for us (both she and I are actors) we have an audience. As the girls exclaim "you better say yes!" "shut up, you're ruining their beautiful moment!" I quietly was ale to squeeze out the words "Will You Marry Me", to which, she thankfully said yes!
She squealed, the girls squealed, and then they took our picture with their cell phone camera. Bizarre, goofy...but perfect in our own unique way.
We get married in exactly one year from our anniversary.

Wow. Okay, so i just got home from Balticon. Performed GUITAR HERO at the opening of The FuMP show with Rob Balder and Sudden Death. Awesome, show, i sounded (surprisingly) great, and the crowd really dug my tune (YAY!)
I had my camera in the back of the ballroom, recording away. I felt it was a good performance of mine, and more than that, i taped all the other performers as well (Rob Balder, Geordie Keitt, Danny Birt and Sudden Death) and told them all I'd be able to give them copies. Cool, awesome fun stuff.
I just rewound the tape to watch my performance.
The audio is all kinds of fucked up. Pops in and out between stereo and 16 bit sound.
Fuck.
The last time it did this was the first day of shooting on my movie WELCOME TO THE BIZ, which i have yet to re-shoot, two years later. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it always seems to be on THE MOST IMPORTANT SHIT THAT WILL BE DIFFICULT, IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE TO RE-DO!
Damnation.
Ah well. Still, it was awesome to be there, to play my song (and play it well!) and see Rob Balder and Sudden Death perform.
Hopefully someone else got a good video of my performance, b/c Ian't tell how I sound on this at all.
Stupid camera. You're usually so awesome! What happened?

[16 May 2008|01:08am] |
So, apparently, I'm performing at Balticon with Sudden Death and Rob Balder.
Funny thing is, I found out on the FuMP site in a news post by Rob...BEFORE getting the e-mail from Sudden Death asking me if I I'd like to perform GUITAR HERO there.
Awesome and strange and wow...this song is going to be TOUGH to do live!
The first official Insane Ian performance...it's just one song, but I'm thrilled they even asked me!
Friday May 23rd at 11pm at the Hunt Valley Marriot. Sure to be killer.

[21 Apr 2008|05:52pm] |
Hey friends, my most recent single "Guitar Hero" from my forthcoming album "n3rds0ngs" has been pressed and shipped to the Dr. Demento show...and I need your help getting it played!
Go to Dr. Demento's Request Page and let him know you want to hear it on the show! EVEN IF YOU DON'T GET THE SHOW IN YOUR AREA, YOU CAN STREAM IT ON HIS SITE!! This would really help me out to get the song (and my upcoming album) some exposure, and of course, air play!
I *NEED* YOUR HELP on this, friends! Request early, request often!

So, the album, so far, is looking to be about 6 or 7 parodies....and, as of this writing...only about 4 or 5 originals.
I don't want the whole album to be parodies...i mean, yes, that's great, but I want some diversity.
So I'm asking for your help.
The few originals i have are pretty strong, i feel. But, i'd like some suggestions. Well, sort of.
I'd like you friends out there to suggest either a SONG NAME or a SONG TOPIC for me to write. It could be anything...a song about waffles, a song called "Over There With Electric Ron"...I'm open to ideas. But these ideas must be ONLY a SONG TITLE or SONG TOPIC...no lyrics, no phrases, no choruses, just one of the two choices.
The best one will get written for the album, and the person who suggested it will get special mention on the album...and a free copy of the disc when it's released.
Sound good? Awesome. I look forward to making funny stuff with you.
