Amidst all this United States election fervor, with the speeches and the mudslinging and the speculation, may I just say something publicly?
I don't think it's fair to base your party affiliation on what other people say. This election is about making the right choice for the next four years. That's something only the people can do, and it's not to be taken lightly. It can't be decided because of what your friend, parent, the media, or your favourite blogger, says. And you can't really tell me you have an opinion of your own:
Until you've searched the candidates' websites for their stances on current issues.
Until you've seen the acceptance speeches.
Until you've read the blogs (leaning towards both sides of the spectrum).
Until you've searched yourself for your own values and compared them to those of the party leaders.
Not until then should you make a decision. And honestly, I cannot respect yours, regardless of the party you choose, until you can tell me you've done all of those things.
I don't care if you're of voting age or not. I just don't like to see it when people make light of the opposite party's candidates, without knowing all the facts and using every resource available to them.
It is not fleeting emotion we're talking about here. It's solid facts we need. The future of the country, and probably the world at large, is in your hands.
Thank you for reading. :) ♥ (and for the record, I'm not even American!)
