02:48 pm - Dear So-and-So...
Annie,

How was your time in the beautiful state of Wisconsin? Was your family very happy to see you? I'm sad I missed you. Heart-broken actually. Is your hair still quite long? I'm jealous! Are you and Sherwood an official item now? If so, he must get over the hairspray incident. I'll try to like him more :-)

Jordie,

Are you still friends with Niocle Kidman? How's work? Have you purchased anything fabulous lately? Do you have my DVD of Ali's senior honors show? I can't find it and think I may have sent it away with you. How's your hair? Are you still such a skinny son-of-a-gun? Are you still a monk? I hope not...

Serena,

Are you still doing hot yoga and looking fabulous? How's the kid? Are they having another baby? Have you made out with anyone wonderful lately?

Kristin,

I got your wedding invitation and it was BEAUTIFUL! I absolutely loved it! I also loved that Paul's middle name is Simon. It's classic. Kevin and I are looking into flights...

Karin,

Do you have a master's now? Holy crap, you are super educated! Are sticking around in LG for awhile, or do you have other plans?

Aaron,

Are you still grinding away at Jhane? How's your wonderful love life? What awesome clothes have you recently been sporting? How's your hair?

Love,
Erica

12:54 pm - Guilty Pleasures
1. Joyride--Roxette
She says hello, you fool, I love you.

2. Lovely Day--Bill Withers
This is the original version of the song, not the dance hit from the 1990s. It really gets me groovin'.

3. Kokomo--Beach Boys
I really dislike the Beach Boys, but this song as well as "In My Room" are some favorites of mine.

4. 9 to 5--Dolly Parton
With hair that big, what's not to love?

5. Crazy--Patsy Kline
This is also a favorite of Annie's as I recall.

6. Beautiful--Christina Aguilera
There's something therapeutic about belting this out in the car.

7. We Are the World--Various Artists
I particularly enjoy the solos by Bruce Springsteen and Dionne Warwick.

8. Lights Out--Lisa Marie Presley
She put out a so-so album not too long ago, and this is actually a really fun one to sing along to.

9. Release Me--Wilson Phillips
Does this one even need an explanation?

10. Elephant Love Medley--From Moulin Rouge
I love any kind of medley where I can sing every part.

09:57 pm - Words to Live By
As I flipped through the new Benefit Cosmetics catalog, I stopped on an ad for some product or another that read "Heels low, hair high." I don't mind the idea of that, but I much prefer the motto "Heels high, hair higher." My hair has been huge lately, by the way.

In other news, today I offically switched from Grande Non-Fat Misto to Venti Iced Coffee. I flippin' love spring!!!

09:21 am - You're Invited to a Block Party
Imagine this with me. You're an average, everyday kind of dude. You hear a rumor (through friends, co-workers, or over the internet) that Dave Chappelle is having a block party in Brooklyn. You don't know where in Brooklyn, or if the event is really even happening. You hear there may be some live performances, but again, this is all hearsay. So on the day of the block party, you and some friends hitch a ride to Brooklyn on a yellow bus and drive around until you find the party. When you get there (and you get over the shock that yes, this is actually happening) a free concert begins. It's Mos Def, The Roots, Common, Kanye West, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott...and then the fucking Fugees reunite. Lauryn Hill is singing "Killing me Softly" and you're standing on some random street corner in Brooklyn watching it happen. For free. The Fugees reunion concert. This is actually happening.

For anyone who loves live performance, just imagine how god blessed amazing that experience would be. Get yourself to a theater to see "Dave Chappelle's Block Party."

09:21 am - *blech*
I am wicked hung-over AND at work. We're having a Holiday party today and I thought a bagel would make me feel better, but unfortunately I got a whiff of swiss cheese onion poppy bread first. It made me throw up in my mouth a little.

My brain is shriveled up and banging around in my skull. I know I've said it before...if I ever see a bottle of tequila again I'm running in the opposite direction.

It was a really, really fun night though :-)

03:32 pm - This that and the other thing
I spent 6 hours in "new employee training" today and made a list of things that really bug me. Here goes:
1. Man jewelry, mainly gold/diamond rings outside of the traditional wedding band. This category also includes hoop earrings, gold bracelets, and chain necklaces.
2. Women with men's haircuts. 'Nuff said.
3. Mock necks. I just don't understand this one. If your neck is cold please invest in an actual turtleneck or a scarf. The mock neck is neither a warmth provider and/or attractive. Stop wearing them.
4. High calorie beverages. Regualr thirst quenching liquds should include Diet Coke/Diet Pepsi, bottled water, or coffee. The idea of Snapple or a giant bottle of lemonade does not sit well with me. Why drink 500 calories when you could have a burrito instead?
5. Power Point. After 4.5 years in college I am soooo over it.

Thanks for the rant. Kisses-
e.

07:55 am - hmph...
1. A car alarm was going off right outside my bedroom window last night. It actually started at about 2pm, starting and stopping throughout the day. Not a big deal until it's 3am and you're on the phone with Madison Police having a nervous breakdown from the F*ING alarm.

2. I bit into an apple yesterday and broke my bottom permanent retainer. It's now jabbing into the back of my bottom teeth and hurtin' like hell. I have to go to a freakin' orthodontist today. How embarrassing.

3. My dance studio is moving to the new location tomorrow. This place in amazing. GIGANTIC! Amazing floors (sprung), three huge studios, a much larger office, bathrooms that we don't have to clean!!!! I'm pumped to say the least.

4. I haven't talked to anyone in forever. I didn't even know Jordan was working until I read Serena's post. I want EVERYONE in Madison tomorrow to have fish at Nick's and then go to Karaoke Kid. We'll finish up with Q-Doba on the grassy knoll. See you there.

Love you and miss you guys,
e.

11:51 am - 'Tis the Season
So in the past few days literally thousands of students have invaded Madison. Tomorrow marks the start of a new undergraduate year, and campus sure has been a-hoppin'. This is only a sad reminder that summer, in it's most beautiful sense, is over. The season isn't technically over until mid-September, but the swarming campus is screaming FALL! These recent events have made me realize a few things. First, I'm not all that sad about not going back to school this fall. I love learning, I actually love studying, but baking, rearranging furniture, and watching Oprah are wonderful things as well. I'm freaking domesticated! Secondly, I like college towns. Particularly Madison. But I don't like college students. I want to live in a college town with no college. That would be ideal. And third and most important, I like my fall wardrobe more than my summer wardrobe. I'm dying to wear my trusty old jean jacket and velour sweatsuits. So, another summer has passed. Friends have moved away, others have moved back. Things have changed and overall I'm OK with it. Just let me wear my damn jean jacket...

12:51 pm - This makes me happy, maybe it'll make you happy too
Here's the original movie cast of "The Outsiders," one of my all-time favorites. I had a dream about Ralph Macchio the other night, so that prompted a renewed interest in all those great characters and the ultra-dreamy cast of men :-)

Matt Dillon .... Dallas 'Dally' Winston
Ralph Macchio .... Johnny Cade
C. Thomas Howell .... Ponyboy Curtis
Patrick Swayze .... Darrel 'Darry' Curtis
Rob Lowe .... Sodapop Curtis
Emilio Estevez .... Keith 'Two-Bit' Mathews
Tom Cruise .... Steve Randle
Glenn Withrow .... Tim Shepard
Diane Lane .... Sherri 'Cherry' Valance

I had no idea Diane Lane was Cherry. I must not have been aware of who Diane Lane was the last time I saw this movie. What a delight!

11:20 am - I just don't get it
I find the term "friendly fire" completely mind-boggling. Isn't firing a gun inherently, you know, not friendly? I think target practice is even pretty malicious. I mean, even though the guy is made out of paper, you're still trying to shoot him in the heart. And any other time one shoots a gun is generally to try and kill something living. Or at least scare the shit out of the living thing. Again, not real friendly.

I understand that "friendly fire" is meant to describe a situation in which one is shot accidentally by someone on their "side." But I find this to be perhaps the most unfriendly of all fires. At least when someone you yourself are trying to kill shoots at you, it's only because they have to...or were told to...or whatever. But when someone on your "side" shoots you...well shit. That's pretty un-fucking-friendly. Weren't you supposed to be on the same team?

I just read an article about former NFLer Pat Tillman who quit playing football and joined the Army after 9/11. He was killed in April of last year because of friendly-fire, but his family and friends were told otherwise. Officers reported at the time that Tillman was killed by enemy fire. They even destroyed evidence to the contrary.

So the person this really made me think about was Pat Tillman's mom. Do you think she cared whether or not her son was killed by "enemies" or "friends?" Probably not. She just cared that he's gone. No need to put some silly word in front of the important one---fire.

12:12 pm - Bienvenue, Pierre!
Yesterday an angry little Siamese fighter fish from Thailand moved into my home. His name is Pierre and he is sans chapeau. He had a lovely pink home until it sprung a leak this morning. Thankfully Dr. McWein spotted it, and for the time being Pierre is residing in a water pitcher. He's resilient though.

Bastards at PetSmart are gonna get an earful tonight. Nobody sells me a bunk Betta Starter Kit for $9.99 and gets away with it! NO ONE!

Stop by and say bonjour to Pierre sometime. He's very friendly.
