as some of you already know, i met up with my grade school best friend, alaine, last friday (august 15, 2008). this is after 12 long years of not being able to communicate in any way. after we graduated elementary, she transferred to another school. and since cellphones, e-mails and instant messengers were still non-existent at that time, the only way we could've communicated was through snail mail or landline phones. however, she transferred locations too in those 12 years, so..NO COMMUNICATION AT ALL.
when friendster came to be, she was one of the first few people i tried to look for. i've been using friendster since 2003, and every few months, i try to look for her but i just couldn't find her. only after five years of being in friendster did i finally find her. hurray for friendster for reuniting me with a long lost friend!
we had dinner at masas, greenbelt 2. we ordered cheese sticks, tawilis, sinigang na bangus and crispy pata--most of which we didn't get to finish because we were too busy catching up. we moved to starbucks greenbelt 3 after dinner and continued with our stories.
now here's the frustratingly funny part.
when we were in grade school, of the two of us, she was the hottie and i was the nottie. she was the crush ng bayan, and i was thetulay ng bayan (yeah, guys flocked around me to ask me a tidbit or two about her. come to think of it, if i asked to be paid for every information about her that i gave away, i could've been rich). she had long, beautiful hair, much better than rebonded hair, i should say.
but one fateful day during grade six, she came to school without 3/4 the length of her hair. her hair was just a snip longer than the boys' haircuts at that time. she went to have her long hair styled into layers but weng, the gay hairstylist, styled it into a shaggy form. alaine complained that she didn't like how it turned out, so weng offered to fix it. it ended up too short and thus, the boy cut hair. whenever she passed our hallways, everyone gave her that shocked plus disapproving look, making her resent leaving the classroom except for bathroom breaks and dismissal time.
while we were chatting in starbucks, when it was time to move to another topic..
alaine: che, may aaminin ako sa'yo. kaya ako lumipat ng school..kasi..nadepress ako sa hairstyle ko. che: you mean i lost my grade school best friend for 12 years because of a BAD HAIRCUT?!
we were laughing so hard after that. but no, she wasn't kidding. she sat down with her mom because her grades were suffering because of the depression. she requested to be moved to another school. and when she transferred to manresa, she changed everything about herself.
then we started thinking of how life would've been hadn't she got that bad haircut. we would never have lost communication, since the internet came to be during second or third year high school (at least for me), and texting came into existence during fourth year high school. but then again, now i know we're willed to see each other again. can you imagine? after all these years, against all the odds, there we were, sitting at starbucks, watching the rain, catching up on all those 12 years that we lost. that's His will.

..but then again, he makes me happier. more and more each day. ♥
JP and i celebrated our 2nd anniversary last friday (yeah, THAT date--08/08/08). nothing fancy, just dinner at tony roma's (according to JP, tony aroma, hehehe). we finished a full slab of baby back ribs, of which the bones he took home to his pet dogs. the dogs, however, didn't seem to like expensive bones. they just licked the bones a bit and stared back at JP.
saturday, he went over to my place. his car's air conditioner broke on his way, and he arrived at my place drenched in sweat. and since it's extraordinarily hot that day, joy-riding in a car without air conditioning is out of the question. so i suggested we just stay at home and just go out for dinner afterwards so that riding the non-air conditioned car isn't too much torture. guess what we did at home?
we just played counterstrike.
we took turns trash-talking each other, and ended up teaming against a bunch of bots. yeah, what a date. unconventional, but fun. hahaha :)) we left for dinner at around 6pm, ate at Fridays Town Center and went back home.
these are the days i know i couldn't be happier. but then again, he has something up his sleeve to make me happier than i could imagine. ♥

ok, so chico and delamar's "the morning rush" at RX is pretty much all the radio i've listened to these past several months. it also goes without saying that the only recently-released songs that i know are the ones played in RX. so everytime i ride a public utility vehicle tuned in to your favorite pang-masa station, i get the shock (and annoyance) of my life.
there's the kapampangan/panggalatok version of sometimes when we touch there's the tagalog version of low. there's the cebuano version of low. there's the tagalog version of umbrella (among all other remakes of the song, foreign or local). there's the tagalog version of bleeding love. there's the tagalog version of smack that. and i could go on.. (i may be wrong on some of the songs above, i don't care. you get the point.)
THIS IS MY BLOG AND I'M ENTITLED TO MY OPINION. BACK-OFF.
first of all, don't you people have any originality left in your blood? i'm not as nit-picky as paeng is when it comes to music originality, but hello? at least make your OWN song. i don't care if you copy a chord progression from one song and another chord progression from another song. just make your OWN song. sheesh. oh, and i was just googling the tagalog version of bleeding love and it gave me this: "title: sugat sa puso (bleeding love) artist: dj sundalong bata and miss ganda." i'm not stupid. i know that dj sundalong bata is a rough translation of souljaboy (soldier boy..go figure) and miss ganda is probably a rough translation of some female artist's name that i didn't bother to know.
second, please give the original song enough time to get old for it to be REVIVED. that's why it's called a REVIVAL. because you REVIVE a song that has not been played for quite a while. and oh, don't argue with me using the words REMAKE and REMIX. you don't want to get me started. as much as i loved rihanna's umbrella (i actually loved the remix with chris brown), having at least 10 versions of the song is just plain annoying. i mean, do you really have to have that many remakes/remixes/revivals of one song? in a span of less than a year?
third, if you do decide on translating a song, please, please, please..make it at least sound poetic. i mean, don't directly translate it. it will either sound forced or barok. the song loses its rhythm. it's not fluid. it's not artistic. you know?!
immitation is the best form of flattery. but please..at least make it flattering for the artist/song that you're copying.

The rules are simple. At the end of the post, the player tags 6 people and posts their names, then goes to their blog and leaves a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog. Let the person who tagged you know when you’ve posted your answer. 1. What was I doing 10 years ago?
2. What are the 5 things on my to-do list today?
3. Snacks I enjoy: -- sour cream chips and coke, shaker fries sa mcdo,
4. Place where I live: -- las pinas!!! ano kayang ginagawa ko dito sa ortigas..?! masyadong malapit. ang hirap magcommute pag umuulan.
5. Things I’d do if I were a billionaire -- 10% sa church, tapos bibili akong bahay at lupa, bibili akong hyundai na coupe saka mazda 3 (shempre para pag coding may ibang sasakyan ako). gusto ko rin yung idea ni maan na bumili ng gas station para libre gas..yung matira, ii-invest ko. OO, AKO mag-iinvest. mahirap na. :))
i'm tagging: dyosa, tinafries, petpet, carol, marius, mamai...

one of my closest friends in high school called me up last night. it has been years since we last talked, in person or otherwise. we had the usual kumustahan, then i joked around that he should invite me pag ikakasal na siya. and in his most serious tone, he told me that he is, in fact, getting married in december, and that i should come to his wedding.
we met up this morning to have breakfast. we talked a lot about our high school friends, just like we did back then. he didn't change much, he's still the jolly old class clown i once knew.
this was the same person who never took life seriously when we were still in high school. this was the same person who asked me to bail him out of whatever mess he got himself into. this was the same class clown who made us laugh all those years.
and now he's getting married. marci, congrats. you haven't changed a bit, but then again you've also changed so much. rachel, you may not be the girl of his dreams..but you're much more than he could ever dream of.
♥ i'm so happy for both of you. ♥

no, i did NOT trade JP for some other guy. ;)) i'm talking about the newest member of my gadget collection: the EeePC 900. i got it last wednesday and so far, i'm happy with it. :)
i got the 20GB Linux version. Well, they actually had a Windows version but it only has 12GB hard disk so i opted for the 20GB instead. besides, i can always have this converted to Windows. *waves at shou*
but...for the meantime, i'll be tinkering with Linux. so far, it has been easy to use. [geekmode=on] the Xandros version that came with the pc is easy to get used to. (note: i unlocked the full version of the OS so i'm no longer using the default setup. no, i'm no longer using that interface with the large icons and limited functionality.) right now, i'm looking around sites on how to convert my OS to Ubuntu Linux, but it looks like it's gonna take a lot of work so i'm putting it off until i'm in the mood to do some major tinkering again. [geekmode=off]
i haven't pimped it up just yet. i took off the protective plastic (as in plastic, supot) for the sake of this photo but i still keep it on while using the lappy to keep dust and fingerprints off the screen. i'll be getting a protective sleeve and screen protector from trixie's friend. i'm also thinking of getting it g-masked to protect it from scratches and fading.
for my friends who knew me since college (special mention to omar, lloyd, anton, my thesis room buddies, etc.), yes, I'M TAKING GOOD CARE OF IT. i'm not throwing it around on the bed anymore and i'm not hitting it when i get irritated. mostly because it's my hard-earned money used to get this baby. i'm proud to say that so far, the gadgets i bought on my own, still works great upto now. the earphones i bought three years ago still sounds great (though the foam padding has totally worn off) and my ipod nano is still in perfect working condition, just a few scratches (because of the edges of the casing and just ONE major drop after two years of existence). snaps for me!
for people who will tell me that i should have waited for the HP Mini-Note or the MSI Wind or whichever ultra-portable lappy that is yet to hit the market: I'M HAPPY WITH MY EeePC. i just got it for the on-the-go wifi access, word processing and organizer/planner functionality. i don't need on-the-go video editing and photoshop capabilities. i don't need gaming power; solitaire suits me fine. i've always wanted a palmtop but this is much better. :)

i've been meaning to do this since my birthday but i just never got to it..anyway, better late than never!
i just turned 25 last month. hello quarter-life! i'd like to list down 25 things i've learned throughout the years, because as early as now, i'm feeling the effects of memory gap. this post should be handy when i need to learn my life lessons (that is, if i ever remember posting them here).
- size does not matter.
when i was in grade one, i was small for my age (i still am). but then i pulled the hair of a class bully (who was big for her age) until she's down on the floor. guidance office, here i come.
- photosynthesis is the process by which plants make carbohydrates from carbon dioxide and water in the presence of chlorophyll, using energy captured from sunlight by chlorophyll, and releasing excess oxygen as a byproduct.
this information won me a tie-breaker question to determine the science quiz bee's second and third place winners when i was in grade three.
- valentina tereshkova is the first woman cosmonaut.
this information would have won my class the science quiz bee when i was in grade four. that is, if narod (yung 3rd place sa quiz bee nung grade three, na classmate ko na this time) wasn't in the hekasi quiz bee and i wasn't in the penmanship contest. we should've tagged team against the champion if not for our know-it-all adviser.
- low grades don't mean you suck at that subject.
i once got a flat 70 in english when i was in grade five, but during college, my english professor offered to write me a recommendation for "The Lasallian" (but i declined because i'm in too many orgs already) and i'm now my friends' resident grammar police officer. bulakbol lang talaga ako noon.
- don't compete with your overly obsessed math teacher over bal david (or any basketball player for that matter). especially if math's not your best subject.
- it's difficult to play in a band. lalo na kung yung kinompose niyong kanta eh pangbasted sa best friend mo.
- if you have lovely handwriting (or exceptional lettering skills), don't flaunt it. unless you want piles of your classmates' notebooks on your desk waiting to be decorated.
- "kalimutan mo na yon, mas importante pagkakaibigan natin."
this moment of forgiveness molded me into how forgiving i am today. yeah, i'm short-tempered at times but my anger that barely lasts a day.
- masarap ang japanese food.
and i wouldn't have known if didn't find myself tagging along the gox group peeps. (you might not remember that..but it was in UM, that japanese restaurant there..that was my first time to eat japanese food)
- don't ever go to fencing training after a night full of gin pomelo and an hour of sleep. aside from not making your lunges, your coach will also nag you for not inviting him to the drinking spree.
- wash the dishes immediately. did you know that stale rice turns green, and then yellow and then black? (in a span of two months)
- you can make sure you go to heaven. there's only One Way.
- what does not kill you will make you stronger. kaya kain lang tayo ng kain ng isaw.
- cramming has its advantages.
i once finished a machine project more than a month before deadline. when i presented it, i had difficulty answering my professor's questions because i've forgotten how i did it. if she hadn't known me that well, she would've tossed me out for copying someone else's code (even if i didn't. honestly).
- nobody's perfect. i still fail at subject-verb agreement especially under thesis pressure. i actually cried over the thesis document where ms. yammie encircled the word "has" with a bright red pen and wrote "have" on top of it.
- bowling's not such a bad sport. unless you get teamed up with TEH BOZZ. everything's in a whole new light (or dark, whichever way you want to put it).
- that outrageously unbelievable twist in the love story you saw in your favorite teleserye actually happens in real life.
- the formula to get the best dressed female award during the christmas party: brown, tube-style, glittery dress.
- not everyone who has a dSLR can be a great photographer. and not everyone who doesn't have a dSLR can't take amazing pictures. hi trin!
- you ran around during your lunch break and you stayed up all night, and what do you get? "booo!" but it was so worth it. hi partner!
- wag makikipagpustahan kay paeng lalo na kung pagkain ang nakataya. nothing comes between him and his food.
- you may know your ABCs by heart, but i had trouble with my A-G. especially when the sharps and the flats started coming. salamat sa patience, paeng.
- never forget to charge the camera battery. especially underwater cameras. especially if you plan on going underwater.
- live life to the fullest. di mo alam kung kelan ka kukunin ni Lord.
- there's no such thing as fast money. we all know that, even in our youngest of years. but then again, experience is still the best teacher. i just wish it hadn't cost me that much.
a toast to the years that are yet to come.
