We've posted new photos on flickr from the last few weeks activities with Ro. We also just bought a digital SLR to spend even more time taking photos. We still have to set-up our digital photo frame but that will be next. Our digital lifestyle is great. It allows us to buy more and more stuff that then has to be replaced, repaired or thrown out. Ahhh american consumption is a grrrrrreat thing.

Washington DC has a ton of traffic cameras for some reason. One of them is around the corner from me. So when I am too lazy to look at a co-workers window to find out the weather etc. I tune into this camera. Now my faithful LJ readers can do the same because they wonderful folks at traffic land have created a camera widget.

Rohan the bongo man
Originally uploaded by ian g.
Rohan has started pulling himself up on things. He is better at pulling up then moving down, but I guess that too will come with time.

As you can see from this photo, he has also started playing the bongo drums. Combining those two new interests he is attempting to find a few other Niyabinghi dreds to have a drum circle with. If anyone knows some Niyabinghi or even 12 Tribes of Israel drum circles around NOVA please let him know.

If you are interested you can check out a whole heap of new photos from Ro-Ro & the gang that we've posted over the last few days. Including thanksgiving, wall crawling (spider baby, spider baby do do ta do, spider baby), family visits, and more of his recent activities.

later,

--Ian

We've posted some photos from our recent visit to g-ville for granpa's 60th b-day. A good time was had by all until the trip home. We spent at extra 3 hours in ATL airport thanks to Delta's typical efficiency. By the time we got home at midnight we were not so good for the next day. Oh well worse things have happened just not last week.

In other news rohan contines to crawl better and better. He is also eating more solid food. He has moved onto bread and toast. The solid food seems to be hard on the digestive track. Oh well this too shall pass!

12:32 pm - 6 months
Yesterday Ro-Ro had his 6 month check up. They measured his vital statistics. You will be pleased to know his head at 18 inches diameter is in the 93%tile, while his height at 27 inches is in the 75%tile and weight at 15lbs 8ozs is in the 15%tile. So his head is, as they say in So I Married an Axe Murder, "a virtual planetoid . . .a orange on a toothpick".  To translate the same ratio of body to head size on my 6ft frame my head would have a diameter of 54 inches.  Now that would be interesting.  Hopefully Ro-Ro's body does not keep his current ratio until adult hood or it could be interesting.

1:27 pm - perfect alarm clock
Perhaps you were wondering what to get me for my birthday. Or what would be the best way for me to wake up in the morning? Well I have found it.

And the Wake n' Bacon wakes a person to the smell of breakfast. Frozen bacon is placed in the built-in oven the night before and starts sizzling 10 minutes before wake-up time.

7:48 pm - Oh well I guess you know you are dad when. . . .
Cara starts work next week, but today she had an in-service training, so Ro-Ro started daycare this morning. Everything went smoothly on our first day of coordinating the three of us leaving the house. Then outside our door, I was holding the little RAGgamuffin in my arms as Cara opened the stroller. On putting him down I noticed he had pissed on us both covering me in his urine from breast coat pocket to my socks.

So we had to quickly run upstairs to change. Cara changing the RAGgamuffin in one room while I quickly changed in the other. I then walked the RAGgamuffin to day care, where he spent the morning.

Cara picked him up at noon. The lady who watched said he did well, but he did not nap. The no napping thing is no surprise. This is a boy who spends most of his days with his eyes so wide open it looks like his eye lids have match sticks holding them apart. His eyes are so wide open it looks almost uncomfortable.

On the way home from work I noticed my socks did not match my shoes or pants.

5:17 pm - Kingston in the eye of the storm
It looks like Kingston is going to get a near miss form Hurricane Dean. It seems like will follow a similar path to Hurricane Ivan which Cara and I lived through. Ivan was not terrible but a few weeks without regular power or water was hard. I did get to live blog through it which was interesting. What was hard was once the power was turned off was losing all information about what was happening except for calls off island. Then finally going home, to no running water or power was not much fun either. Hot summer days with out showers got old fast but after a few weeks we were back to normal, or at least Kingston normal.

Something about the storm drove our landlord's son crazy. That was probably the worst part him ranting & raving up at night like a mad man. Eventually his unbalanced behavior lead to the robbery that C & I experienced. Hopefully this storm is no worse then Ivan was, but it could be terrible of the eye passes over the island. Stories of Hurricane Charlie and Gilbert are common among Jamaicans. Typically they have a funny ending but that is a jamaican gift to make hard situations into funny stories.

In other news, my new job is going well. The first two weeks have been pretty painless. Lots of people are gone for the period before school starts on labor day. Even so I get the feeling a busy day at this job will be more ordely and enjoyable then a dead day at my last job.

In none work or PC related news, we are trying to get Ro-Ro to go to bed better. We bought this video from amazon and have been following the instructions in it. It is working OK, but he got up for an hour in the middle of the night last night. Hopefully that is an anomaly and is a better sleeper now. Though I am not sure. He is sleeping for longer now at least it would be nice if he did it without screaming before he went to bed but I am happy to have him in bed at least.

Tomorrow, Ro-Ro is off to daycare for the first time. Cara is going to a training course so Ro-Ro will spend half the day at day care tomorrow. He will also go in for some time the rest of the week. Hopefully that all goes well. I'll let you know.

This is from a few weeks ago but I never posted it because I did not think that it was working. I guess it did this is the simpsons avatar I created for myself.  I also created a simpsonizeme character as well.  Who says my week off a few weeks ago was not well spent?

7:07 pm - Breaking news
OK, we have some breaking baby news. Ro-Ro is cutting his first tooth. His constant slobbering, and bad mood over the last few weeks now have a clear explanation. We will let you know how it goes.

In other news ro-ro finally had a good night of sleep for the first time in weeks. We got a bigger Kiddopatumus it seemed to do the trick, but who knows. We have seen lots of things once lets hope a pattern is developed though. He slept for 8 straight hours and then went back down for another 3. It was a little Festivus miracle! Knock wood hopefully he keeps it up.

2:44 pm - Long time no write
OK, I haven't written in LJ in almost a month.  That is pretty bad.  Major reason was I was M-I-S-E-R-A-B-L-E at my job.  Well last week was it for that job.  A new one starts in a week.  I could go into all the gory details about what I did not like about my old job but that does no one any good.  Needless to say I am excited about spending time with my family, starting a new job.  This is my 3rd job in the two years I've been back from JA.  Not too sure that is a good sign but oh well, I'm excited about my new job.  It is an ICT management position at a big international think tank (though big by international think standards means like 200 employees).

In other news I've been playing on Facebook a lot lately.  I've had a membership for the past two years and did barely anything with it.  Then when apps started there my old job started to write them   So I spent time testing them on FB.  In doing that I noticed a lot of people online there that I had come across at different stages in my life.  There were an especially large number of PCVs there as most of them still had their Uni addresses.  It is interesting to see what some of them are up to.

In family news the baby seems to be regressing.  He has become a god awful sleeper. Instead of waking up once a night like he was a few weeks ago now it is 3 or 4 times.  Never sleeping for more then 3 hours at a stretch.  It is bad.  Has C at her wits end.  Hopefully we can figure this one out otherwise he may be stunting his intellectual growth.  Or perhaps the lack of sleep could be his natural rhythm.  There are a few members of my mothers family who only sleep 3-4 hours a night.  They are called the witches.  Perhaps he has inherited that gene from my  moms side of the family.  If so hopefully he can figure out how to amuse himself at night.

Oh yeah if you want to catch up on the family Dugesman you can see lots & lots of photos on Flickr.  We have become serious addicts.

Anyways hopefully my new job is better then my old one, my son becomes a better sleeper, and we have a good time in my week off,.  If you want to know the gory unhappy details about why I left, the lack of sleep we are getting or anything else just ask off-line.  That sort of complaining always comes back to haunt one.  Just ask all those stupid people who have their inappropriate items from the internet show up when the run for American Idol, Mrs. America, etc.

1:17 pm - Home ownership not all it is cracked up to be
OK, so as most of you are aware Cara and I became home owners late last fall.  For the last 6+ months we have been proud homeowners of a town house that looks like a million other town houses in the DC suburbs.  If you saw the picture of the VT murder's house, in Northern Virginia you get the idea.  That house looks like it could've been ours.  Generally these town house communities all look the same, feel the same, and maybe are the same.  For the amount we spent you would've thought we could've received something a little more unique but I guess not.

Our town house had a few known problems when purchased it.  Which explains why it was a few dozen thousand dollars less then some we looked at.  One of those problems came back to bite us in the butt this last week.  Our AC went out, it was the original that was installed almost 25 years ago.  Totally Kaput.  Outside & inside part of it.  Nothing was working but the fan.  So after finding that out on Tuesday we got quotes for replacement on Wednesday.  By yesterday the crew was here replacing our AC.

It was a long hot week especially for my little sister who is acting as nanny while Cara finishes her last few weeks of school with her students.  The AC is back on, my sister is sleeping past noon.  We are a few thousand dollars poorer.  Normalcy is restored at the cost of a dent to our bank account.  Hopefully the other things we were warned about when we bought the house can wait a little while longer to be replaced.  Other wise a few months in a row of big expenses could put more then a dent in our bank account.
