| | exciting! | ] | i have been working with Brad Keech at Pressure Printing on a very special limited edition of prints.
Brad specializes in individually hand printed, fine quality prints, using traditional print making methods on mostly antique handpresses.
past projects include:
 James Jean's "Taciturn" & Mark Ryden's "Maddona & Karl" both are very beautiful in person. (the makings of "Madonna and Karl" here.)
my print will be an intaglio print from an exclusive and original drawing. we are also going to be adding some very special and unique touches to the prints and mounting them into completely handmade frames.
Brad sent me some photos of the frames he's been working on. all hand made.

just a little glimpse of the drawing.
 i will also be painting in a slight rosy color in the cheeks and lips.
we are still working on these and dont know the exact date of release. ive never had such high-quality hand prints made before, so its quite exciting.
~~~~~
 i bought these colored pencils months ago... and theyve just been sitting there... i also bought a brown tinted sketchbook months ago... that too has just been sitting there...
havent kept a sketchbook in a reeeeeally long time somehow. so... i gave it a shot.
hello. how do you do? things are ok here. though most of my days feel like a slight blur. distracted and aloof and focused and determined all at the same time. its the mumbly jumbly days for me.
i am, however, excited about an upcoming magazine feature. Katie Zuppann, from Juxtapoz, came by a couple weeks ago. i will have a 8 page piece in the July issue! now thats something to look forward to. ;)
 ~black wood stain. white gesso splatter. draw~ i am finally starting to work on my next show at Mondo Bizzaro in Rome, for this coming Sept.
am planning to take my previous skateboard feel and see where i can go with it. black. white. monotone. with a touch of a darker lustier feel. a bit puzzling and disordered and obscure.
feels like its a good time to explore other ideas and processes.
~also Thankyou for all your input about the last print sale. i havent had a chance to reply to them, but i do read all the comments here, and i appreciate all the opinions and concerns. :) |
| print sale mistake |
[Mar. 15th, 2008|03:00 pm] |
To those who missed out on the 'Lacey' print opportunity,
we apologize. it was an honest mistake, and we had no idea the page wasnt showing up in other browsers.
i'm sorry to those of you who are upset (and those who aren't!) but please know it was not on purpose.
each time we conduct these print sales we've had problems, and we've taken measures to fix those problems the next time around.
next time we will make sure that the page will be visible in all browsers.. so, this wont happen again. we'd eventually like to have some sort of "shopping cart" so that things are more clear!
Thankyou for your patience and understanding.
 i was commissioned to paint on a skateboard 2 years ago or so, and finally got around to it.
i actually enjoyed it lot. the original board was wood with a dark gray stain. had trouble seeing my pencil lines, so i gessoed some thin whites through out, and went from there. very little paint, but i like the monochrome. with just a hint of rosy pink blush. the combination of white.gray.pink is lovely.
may take this idea and roll with it.
 Grafuck 3 will be available for the first time at the Book Release Signing / Art Show @ Nucleus Gallery. Opening Reception: Saturday, December 8, 2007 Signing 6pm - 7pm. Show from 7 pm - 11 pm.
(im not 100% sure if i can make it to the signing. but my 2 naughty pieces will be printed in this book.)
oh! and speaking of books...
 when i first layed eyes on James Jean's Process Recess 2, i nearly choked myself with glee! 64 pages of full fold out spreads of his beautifully rendered illustrations along with pages of processes and stunning sketches and drawing (which are my favorites). i cant speak enough of how thrilled i am for this book and his work. his vision is extraordinary... ~sigh~
[Oct. 29th, 2007|09:19 pm] |
 hello!
we are pleased to announce a new print, Mizuame (seahorse), will be available this saturday, November 3rd at 3pm pacific.
this time we are doing something we've never done before - a TIME limited edition instead of a regular limited edition. the print will be available for exactly one hour, and anyone who sends an email during that time will be guaranteed a print.
Thanks to everyone for your input on this post. i just think everyone who wants a print should have a chance to own one.
so this is a special offer and we don't plan on doing it often. after this, the prints will go back to limited editions of 100-200.
[Oct. 10th, 2007|07:56 pm] |
 the other night, i was inspired by victorian lace and started this drawing.
getting so intricate and detailed can be so meditative. concentrating on a fine pencil point, everything else (like distractions in the head) just sort of disappears. i felt fulfilled and a bit uplifted at the end of the night. |
[Oct. 10th, 2007|07:21 pm] |
 Kokeshi group show at Subtext in SanDiego Ca. Opening reception : Saturday, Nov. 3rd, 6-10pm
"In celebration of Bunka-no-hi – a Japanese national holiday promoting culture, the arts, and academic endeavour – Subtext and guest curator, Christina Conway, have carefully selected over 75 artists from 13 different countries to customize traditional Japanese Kokeshi dolls. The Kokeshi doll is a traditional folk art form of Japan, dating back to approximately 1830. Originally made by craftsmen during the winter months for sale to tourists, they have come to symbolize Japan to people around the world."
| TekkonKinkreet |
[Oct. 6th, 2007|01:38 am] |
| | wow | ] |
Last night i watched "Tekkon Kinkreet". an anime film, directed by Michael Arias, adapted from a manga series "Black and White" by Taiyō Matsumoto.
im not too too keen on anime, and havent watched enough to compare, but i was pretty much blown away by the cinematography and the background art. Shinji Kimura (the art director) and his staff are so gifted, it makes me crazy in the head just trying to imagine how its all done. its such a visual spectacle to me. the color schemes are based on advertisements of 1950's and 1960's japan. and has a nostalgic retro feel.
Michaels says, "I'm not sure if it's due to the printing materials or the inks they were using, but there's a very peculiar flavor to the graphic design of the '50s and '60s in Japan, and we thought that would be a nice way of evoking this era that's gone by or just lives on only in this one little town."
i went and got the ArtBook today, since i just had to see all the images at hand. and now, i am oh~ing and ah~ing at every page. (250 pages of them!) the attention to details is just exquisite! its baffling to me, that some images these artists works on for hours and days and weeks even, are only visible on film for a mere few seconds. i really admire that level of dedication.
i had to scan a few here. (though these scans dont do the book justice) ( super image heavy... ) |
