I've seen the rumours around before and pray to whoever or whatever cares to listen that THEY ARE TRUE!!!
*clickie clickie*
And I totally refrained from using a different Who icon so it won't be too obvious what the rumours are about. *g* |

Apart from the fact that my laptop's a bit fucked since yesterday I can't quite believe what I've done today. Though I shoulda probably seen it coming what with reading Callum/Hugh fic again all of a sudden. I HAVE READ DUE SOUTH FIC TODAY!! And I've already saved a couple more due South stories for further reading sessions and I notice this has nothing whatsoever to do with my laptop that's a bit fucked since an update apparently went wrong yesterday but I felt like mentioning it regardless because the laptop being a bit fucked makes for a supremely grumpy Schizo what with me generally being comp-illiterate and all.
Anyhow, for all those wondering what the hell is so special about reading due South fic again...well...thing is, I never, absolutely never, go back to old fandoms but my current frustration with the Doctor Who and Life on Mars fandom has called for desperate measures, so I'm grabbing for the next best thing, I guess. Well, let's see if I'll really go back to reading...well, basically all the looooong due South fic I've missed in the past 2 years that I've been out of the fandom. Mind you, the fandom isn't big anymore, naturally, but I've already found a couple 10.000+ resp. even 30.000+ word stories, so I'm not gonna complain just now.
Other than that, it might be about time I compile that list of Life on Mars stories that I thought were enjoyable to read. Turns out the story I might have liked most is a gen one...
One of these days I'm gonna die of all kinds of unfulfilled desires...
P.S. Have I mentioned lately how much I love the (10th) Doctor? Seriously, regardless of what I read thinking about the Doctor is still my favourite way of passing a couple minutes every other hour. He's such a beautiful, multi-layered character. ^^ |

It is the third time already that I’ve come across a mentioning of Katy Perry on my flist. The fucking song, I Kissed a Girl, is all over the freaking radio stations and I don’t wanna know when they’ll start playing her UR So Gay.
Please have a look at the following two posts by phaballa from a while ago, the first of which links to an article about Perry’s homophobic messages and, perhaps worse, the hypocrisy of the media that celebrates Perry as the new smart-mouthed girl rebel. The second post includes part of the I Kissed a Girl and UR So Gay lyrics.

Oh my God, I don’t know what this is. At the beginning, I was talking about one thing and then I was talking about something else, too. So this is a mixture of things where the initial point might have got lost somewhere along the way. As always, it’s about fiction and reality; it’s about homophobia/misogyny/racism and…rape and…death penalty and it’s all lumped together. And it’s not really “in short” as I thought it’d be at the beginning.
I notice that as long as I make a public entry and do not turn off the comments it can very well be considered an invitation for discussion BUT I’d like to ask you to NOT take this as an invitation to explain to me in any way, shape or form why you are pro death penalty if you are and if you should feel like telling me about it. I don’t want to hear it! You can very well tell me that you are pro death penalty but I don’t want to hear any explanation/justification! Do this in your LJ. Thank you! Sorry, this is just a precaution. |

I'm stealing stuff from xel1980 again!
Article about I Love You Phillip Morris
The way I understand it the film features an m/f sex scene!! That's exactly how I like my "gay films", most times no more than a peck on the lips, if at all, and only if you’re really lucky something more akin to a proper kiss but hey, never can go wrong with some “het action”, now can you?
Seriously, thank you Torchwood, if for nothing else than at least for 2 of the best m/m kisses I’ve ever seen on screen!!!!! Next time I’d like to have a close-up as in Yossi & Jagger that does NOT stop before the tongue action sets in, that is. Perhaps something like in Oz S5ep8 only MUCH longer. ^^
Well, at least there does seem to be some kissing going on in I Love You Phillip Morris accompanied by some rolling around on beds. Well, we'll see... |

My God, I love that fucking film!!! But why do I only own the frigging German version with subtitles only in German that are not even freaking CORRECT!!!???
Of course, the US version’s cheaper than the Canadian one but should I get the Canadian one, one of these days when I’ll have finally bought all the other stuff that demands to be bought (see a couple entries earlier)? Is there a version with English subtitles at all? I take it none of the other versions have more extras than the German version I possess and at this point I doubt we’ll ever get to see a new release where they’ll finally think of including the freaking deleted scenes!!
Either way, I fucking love that film!!! And I’ve even found a couple screencaps in my photobucket and ImageShack accounts, though unfortunately not many. I’ve got more…somewhere. I fucking love the first cap!!! He holds his hand! Actually, he just shortly takes Billy’s hand in his and then lets his hand slide down Billy’s wrist a bit. Gorgeous, isn’t it? *g*
You know what some of my fave scenes are apart from the one above? Naturally, I love their last fight, so to speak, that gives you CKR with blood on his face and that gorgeous exhausted, disappointed look and everything in slo-mo and John reciting that telling And in the end it’s love line over and over again.
And I love the scene in the tour bus when they’re playing that movie game of theirs. One of the only scenes where there’s no ad-libbing at all and congrats Noel S. Baker, because that scene rocks because for once there seems to be no tension between the two at all. They’re totally at ease in the company of the other which is rare, isn’t it? It’s gloriously peaceful.
Oh God, I love that film!!!
( CAPS!!! )
ETA: One more screencap added! |

Oi, I just heard Handlebars by Flobots on the frigging radio. Didn’t know it was some new-ish song. I didn’t know the band at all actually. Still don’t. But that song’s quite…intriguing and I’ll now probably always, always connect it to that equally intriguing, so damn true Doctor Who songvid I’ve linked to before.
And now you can has lyrics!

[Aug. 30th, 2008|06:46 am] |
Before all these open windows (yeah, for whatever reasons I do windows on my laptop and tabs only on the Mac…huh?) confuse me poor little brain buddy, here’s a list of links all related to McCain’s would be-VP:
The pitting of minority groups against each other that has been so prominent in this election has had one particularly ironic outcome -- when you average things out, the only people who can be trusted to vote are white males. Women vote with their vaginas. People of color vote with their skin.
Sometimes it sucks being a woman competing in mostly-male arenas, because you can never tell how much your vagina gives stat bonuses or penalties. If you get passed over during a selection process, is it because the people doing the choosing didn't think you could do it, or because they didn't think a woman could do it? Likewise, if you get chosen, is it because those same people thought the position was right for you, or right for a woman?
What else can we say about Palin? She's a creationist. She claims to be a pro-life, pro-contraception feminist but given her creationist leanings I have my doubts about the contraception issue. I suspect, much like "But of COURSE she cares about the environment!" we'll also get "But of COURSE she cares about women's contraception issues!" while we get more abstinance-only education, more attempts to classify birth control as abortion, and more support for so-called scientists who are happy to ignore pesky issues like the scientific method if they interfere with the administration's plans.
She's anti-gay rights (though some of her best friends are gay!) (Here there’ll also be talking about Palin’s feelings on drilling in the Artic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska.)
Of course, for Palin to qualify with the Republicans, she'd have to be approved by the Christian Coalition and support the Republican anti-woman, anti-choice, anti-gay, anti-worker, anti-immigrant, anti-union, anti-health-care, anti-education, anti-environmental, anti-sanity platform.
When Merkel was voted Chancellor I was mocking women that voted for her only because she is a woman, too. But I notice that if we were presented with a gay man or lesbian woman as candidate for Chancellor I’d probably vote for their party even if it meant voting for the conservative f***ers, just so long as I would be relatively sure that the gay candidate in question isn’t one of those that loathes who/what they are and thus would support all kinds of anti-gay politics. So there, my longing for a “gay head of politics***” would be stronger than my hatred for societal conservative f***heads.
Yes, I know, people will say there’re more pressing issues (It’s about human rights! Never forget that!!) but I wonder if, if Obama will be elected, the US will get same-sex marriage, all the way, and not just this half-arsed shit called civil unions we’ve got here. I don’t know where Obama stands exactly.
And now I’m biting my tongue hard before I say any more about US politics and Obama.
***”Head of state” wouldn’t be entirely accurate as that would be the President and not the Chancellor, so “head of politics” might be the best description for the Chancellor. |

OMG, why didn't I know about I Love You Phillip Morris ? And why isn't it 2009 already? Not that I'd particularly like Jim Carrey BUT BUT BUT...
Will it be one of those rare "gay films" with a happy ending? Does anyone know the ending to the real life story, so to speak?
How explicit will the film be? And with "explicit" I don't mean sex scenes but simple kissing scenes, i.e. will they be allowed to truly kiss or will that be too "gay and icky" (GRRRR) for those responsible for the film?
Oi, thank you, xel1980, for posting about the film! *g* |

Is it the flat screen or the Mac? Most of my icons I made on my laptop and colour-wise they look fine to me on the laptop. On the Mac, however, they’re all way too bright. Even those that are supposed to be light coloured look even brighter on the Mac. The icon I’m currently using so much so that it doesn’t look all that good anymore. :o( On the Mac I can hardly read the “alive”.*** On my laptop it looks just fine!!
I’m not sure what it is because some of my older icons I made on our old Mac and they too look way too bright on the iMac. *scratches head* Actually, that’s not the first time that’s happened. I’ve noticed before that icons that looked fine on my comp were too dark on the comp I was using in an internet café.
Is it perhaps that the iMac “is brighter” in general? I’m missing vocabulary and can’t be arsed to check but the whole screen looks brighter than my laptop screen or the screen of our old Mac for that matter.
Stupid that! I’m not good at the icon making business but to think that my lousy attempts might look even lousier to others depending on what computer they’re using, that’s…depressing. *pouts*
Have you had this? That you come across icons on your flist that make you, like, totally jealous? Because they look so frigging BRLLIANT and why the hell are you not able to make icons like that??? *sniffs*
***OT: Technically, this icon’s not quite right anyway. As much as I do like it, and I do, the whole point of the series is that when he wakes up in 2006 (or 2007 or whatever) he’s NOT alive; he does not feel alive, so…but I do like the icon, its darker laptop!version in any case. o.O |

To buy or not to buy always seems to bet he question. I need to save money for the Doctor Who series 4 box set that’ll be out in November. But there’re also Torchwood series 2, Supernatural season 3 and Einstein and Eddington with David (out in December) that all want me to buy them!
And I haven’t even taken any John Simm stuff into account here! Crime & Punishment was just released on DVD and John’s episode of The Canterbury Tales is to follow soon, though I’m not seriously considering buying the latter as the plot is so completely NOT my thing.
And what about Normal with one Callum Keith Rennie who for once isn’t the bad guy???
Btw, the latest films I watched with John Simm were Sex Traffic and Blue/Orange. I’ve also seen Boston Kickout, Human Traffic, 24 Hour Party People, State of Play and 2 episodes of The Lakes.
I can’t say I really liked any of those films. He looks particularly cute in Sex Traffic, though I notice that when you watch a film with so serious a subject matter and all you can think of is how cute the lead actor looks in glasses, it probably doesn’t prove you to be the most sensible person in the world. o.O
Other than that, I am positive that Blue/Orange wanted to tell me that everybody is just BATSHIT INSANE and the viewer will be too after this film! Man, my head was spinning like whoa by the end of it!! |

| Part English, part German: Homophobia, etc & misogyny/sexism |
[Aug. 27th, 2008|05:19 pm] |
The rant behind the cut is in German because the essay and interview it refers to are in German and sometimes I just can’t seem to be arsed to make an effort and say stuff in English.
Either way, I didn’t want to post it at first because it concerns “feminist issues” and apart from the fact that yes, misogynist/anti-feminist here, I do not post about misogynist/sexist stuff normally, at least not as the main focus of a post because this is not my “fight”. There are enough feminists out there, in fandom probably even more so than outside of it and, as I’ve explained before, in opposite to homophobia, etc misogyny/sexism does not hurt me, it might only make me angry from time to time at most. But anger is not accompanied by the same sense of vulnerability and helplessness and aloneness, so it doesn’t bother me much.
I want to live in a society that is non-homophobic, non-transphobic and where there is no bi, pansexual and asexual invisibility. I want to live in a society that has overcome gender binary; where there are men and women, some of them transsexual, and intersexuals and people with all kinds of gender disphoria/that are genderqueer and thus don’t fit the now existing labels.
But people are idiots and they will stay idiots and so there will be no equality, not for anyone that doesn’t conform to the standards of our current society. There will still be fights for basic rights for homosexuals. Bisexuals and everything even more challenging to the normal brain will still be ignored completely and I don’t even want to know what it’s like for intersexual, queergendered and transitioning people to live in a society that’s so awfully hung up on men here, women there and please, don’t make my head explode by suggesting there could be something else, too.
See, now I’ve got an entry that combines homophobia/etc and misogyny/sexism but what about racism, anti-Semitism, ableism, etc? In an open society, these wouldn’t be issues either, so I guess the above that talks about idiots and how they’ll always stay just that applies to every other “ism” and “phobia” just as well.
And now on to the rant in German that was caused by an essay in the latest issue of SPIEGEL magazine and an earlier interview in the same magazine.
