Dear diary,

I am in a dilemma. My contract for my phone is up and I do love my current Samsung U600 but I'm obligated by my soul to get a new phone. Daz got his just after we came back from holiday and he's got a shiny new Samsung U900! I don't know what to get though. My brother sold his old iPhone and got the new 16gig one but I'm not going to spend all that money for a phone so iPhone is out of the picture. I'm torn between these two below but I don't know what to get. I like the unusual and very sleek almost sidekick-style qwerty keypad popularised by T-mobile years back of the Samsung F700 but I also adore the traditional, straighforward, and professional look of the Blackberry Curve. Please help. I've read most of the reviews but I can't seem to get a clear winner. Help me!

Yours truly,

Desperate Techie

p.s. sometimes, Samsung F480 makes an appearance in my options as well. I'm so confused right now!

A Major rant

Last Monday, Daz and I chance upon a really interesting documentary on BBC One. The program deals with the different lives of the immigrants living in the UK. Being an immigrant myself, I was interested to see what other cultures experience when they move in the UK so we started recording the episodes. Just this Monday, they featured the lives of two Filipina women living in the UK supporting their families back home. Their stories are not the typical stories you hear about Filipinos leaving their country for greener pastures. In these stories, you will hear quite the opposite.

pinas, work, gladiators, etc.

It's almost a month since we came back from our holiday last April yet until now, we still wish we were there. Daz was bargaining with me earlier today that we'd get to buy a PC or Mac if we can afford it before his birthday if I will agree that we will go back again next year to the Philippines. I haven't said yes or no yet. Thanks again for all our friends who took time to see and spent time with us. Daz and I had a blast as you may have read in his LJ. It was such a special and important trip for me as it was the first time that Daz has met my Posse friends that he's been hearing about for 2 years.

Gladiators is back on SkyOne and the first episode aired just tonight. We have it recorded on Sky+ so we won't miss an episode. I remember when i was growing up it was on telly and it was so much fun. Why wouldn't I love a show where gorgeous men in tight lycra ran around grabbing each other and flexing their muscles? It's the perfect television programme! This time around, they've kept some of the challenges and will be introducing new ones as well. More importantly, Daz and I are totally going gaga over the Gladiators themselves. We just adore Spartan (see picture below) and should be renamed demigod. He's very good with the battles and he's got a long tongue like Daz as well. We're already looking to get some tickets on the actual shows. It's only an hour and a half drive from Bristol to Birmingham. My Sundays are going to get better from now on...

Daz and I are parents, by the way! We bought ourselves fish for our tank that's been empty for the past month. We didn't want to get any before we left for our holiday so we waited until we got back. It's like our little baby, we always make sure that the water is clean, it's well fed and that the temperature of the tank is within it's acceptable range. We even named it after one of the things that reminds us of our holiday. It's a shibunkin fish called Shisha. We haven't taken any decent pictures of the tank yet but we will soon so wait for that one.

That's it for me for now. Hope you guys had a great month so far. We're just looking forward to summer this year. The weather has been lovely so far this May, let's hope this will continue on until August.

Heathrow Hell

The news about the opening day embarrassment of Heathrow Terminal 5 almost put a dampen to our upcoming holiday. As many of you now know, we will be flying on Monday to sunny Pinas via the newly-opened, supposedly hassle-free and fast check-in Terminal 5. It opened yesterday and it was a whole mess. British Airways apologised for cancelling 34 outbound flights and 30+ more inbound flights and at one point during the day even made even more news by telling it's customers that they can fly only that they can't bring their checked luggage.

Days before this, there was a documentary on telly about how convenient and exciting this new terminal is going to be. It traced how the terminal was built and there was even a segment there were it highlights how efficient this new terminal is going to be when it comes to handling people's checked-in luggage. As some of you may not know, British Airways (BA) has one of the worst records of lost/delayed luggage in the airline industry. They even bragged that with the new system they have of sorting luggage, lost luggage will be a thing of the past. Then their worst nightmare came to fruition yesterday.

Daz and I spent most of the night thinking of plan B, C, or D and we couldn't sleep through the night. I woke up just after he left for work and checked online and the news if there are any updates. As of this morning, BA CEO said things are looking better with only 20% of the flights being cancelled most of them short haul ones and people can now check-in with their luggage.

Things are looking up but we will be keeping track of the situation very closely. Do keep your fingers crossed for us and getting to the Philippines after this trip will be such a relief. This made me think twice actually of flying with BA. I've never had any problems with Qatar Airways.

Sigh.

Major update

Alright. I know what you are going to stay. Have I been on sabbatical or just plain lazy updating my LJ. I won't dignify that with an answer at all. It just so happen that things are going very well with my life that sitting down in front of the computer and recounting all of it would be a waste of time. Wait, isn't that what I'm doing right now? Oh well...

So, it's been ages since I've posted an entry so I think we should start from where I ended in my previous post. I have to start by saying that it's been a very interesting month this March. I can't believe my luck and the great things that have happened to me. First off was my new role, in my previous entry, I mentioned I got the job I've applied for internally and so I started that role in early March. I was a bit hesitant and scared as I know very little about the people who work there and though I'm quite familiar with their job roles, it's still scary being in a new environment. It's like being in a strange country for the first time again. I've made tons of friends in Customer Services and have known most of the managers there so moving was quite a daunting experience but all that changed for the better. It's been three weeks now since I'm in my new role and I am absolutely loving it. I've got fantastic managers who are very supportive and fellow coaches who help me with the day to day tasks. At first, I was really drained and exhausted. We kept hopping from one meeting to the next and by the time you finish the last meeting, the meeting you had earlier that day wanted an update on what has happened since. Things are better now and I'm starting to see some progress with my team.

I carry your heart with me...

One of the most beautiful poems every written...

i carry your heart with me

(i carry it in my heart)

i am never without it

(anywhere i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done

by only me is your doing, my darling)

i fear no fate

(for you are my fate, my sweet)

i want no world

(for beautiful you are my world, my true)

and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant

and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows

(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud

and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows

higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)

and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart

(i carry it in my heart)

Family portrait through the years...

I was going over the photo albums in our living room last Thursday night and memories of my childhood came rushing back to me after seeing these pictures. I remember that every Christmas, we'd always pose in front of the tree to have our annual family portrait taken by my dad's step brother who was a photographer. I remember that it was on this Christmas morning that I got a bike just like my elder sister and we'd go around our neighbourhood parading it with our friends. I remember how happy I was that day and that's probably one of the very few memories of my childhood that I'll cherish the most.

This picture came many years after the first one. I can't remember how long but you do the math. We weren't so innocent looking then and things have become more complicated and not so easy with our lives since the previous picture but the tradition of having our family portrait taken every Christmas has been kept alive (note the tree on the background!).

Fast forward- 2007.  Everyone is now married (yes! including myself) and my parents are now grandparents to five lovely adorable (but sometimes spoiled and bossy) grandchildren- all girls! Mama is still working happily as a care home manager in Begbrook House where Papa works also.  Erma is now teaching in General Santos with her husband Alexis and their two girls (Ea and NiƱa), Odell Lyn and her husband Michael are in Dumaguete where she is finishing her second course in Silliman with her two babies as well (Khyle and DJ), my younger brother Deane got married here in the UK last year and is now settled with his wife Marie, who has worked at Frenchay hospital for 4 years now.  Our youngest brother Jay-r is in the Philippines, much more mature now with his fishing business which he enjoys with the "loves" of his life- wife CheChe and my godchild Alexa. What about me, you ask? I'm  presently employed with one of the biggest vehicle breakdown recovery organisations in Britain, and very happy enjoying the fruits of my labour with the greatest person in the world and I couldn't be happier. Thank goodness!
