I am grateful. "100" won the most number of awards in the recently concluded Cinemalaya festival. Best supporting actress ( Eugene Domingo), best actress (Mylene Dizon), best screenplay ( Chris Martinez), best direction ( Chris Martinez also), People's Choice (I like this one). Best picture went to "Jay". It was well done.
Being a co-executive producer and creative supervisor is most rewarding. As Jessica Zafra texted, on to the multiplex. Me naman, i'm thinking of a sequel na for the coming Metro Manila FIlm Festival. "100 Things To Do After You Die". Joyce comes back to haunt Ruby. Joyce's ghost wears a gown of post-its and pops up in the most inconvenient moments. The new list will include possessions, levitations, seances, balete drive appearances, poltegeistings, etc. |

| Last Days Of Blanco |
[Feb. 2nd, 2008|11:09 pm] |
It started as a rumor. Blanco is closing down. They're tearing down the place. They'll build a high rise on top of its pnadak remains. They'll renovate and jack up the price. No one knows the truth except maybe our drivers who hang out with the building guards. Maybe even the guards were not told the whole truth. It was a conspiracy theory. There was wailing, gnashing of teeth, ashes on heads and some very expensive sacks rent. It's understandable, as far as we know, Blanco has the cheapest deals in the bestest spot in Makati. It was hell and the brokers circled. Whatever the truth is, the result is the same. I'm out of Blanco and I now live in Taguig!
Yesterday I moved out of Blanco. I'm one of the last ones to leave. Starting Monday, the hallway lights will be turned off, the elevators will only be switched on when someone needs to move things down (the elevator takes 30 seconds from the 9th floor to the ground floor), the basement parking will be closed, and the staff will be cut in half (in numbers). It's no last days of disco ( although I heard there were some heavy drug use on a certain floor) still it's sad to see all the characters pack up and leave.
At 3:15 this afternoon I locked and left my Blanco unit 802.
To Jay Lozada, Ricky Villabona, Desiree Pe, JouJou Into and Ralph Cenabre, Jeremy Barnes, Christine Del Valle, Lala FLores and her Chi Spa, Xeng Zulueta, Alta Tan, Rhett Eala, Joji Dingcong, Martin Nievera, Eric Quizon, Brent Javier, Becky Garcia, The T Models, Steve Mills, Tely Arce, Russel Molina, Jessica Zafra! Who else pa lived in Blanco? |

| Usable Past |
[Jan. 5th, 2008|05:49 pm] |
|
It´s a new year. Pull out the books and check the balance. Recall as much and decide how things stand. It´s daunting. The best part of this accounting is the gratitude I feel towards, everything really. The feeling quickly fades after 3 days when my birthday comes. I call a new year, communal amnesty, like almost everything can be revised, forgiven, changed. Like CAN BE. Almost. While birthdays for me are yardsticks. What should have been revised, forgiven, changed. At the most. I know it´s bleak but a few weeks later and I notice the hourglass is reversed again. More sand on the top than at the bottom. Anyway, live life to have more usable past and maybe even a useful future. |

| Rio De Janeiro |

Ok naman ang new year dito. Maraming nakaputi. Maraming may dalang bulaklak para ialay sa dagat. Kanta sila ng kanta habang naglalakad papunta sa Copacabana beach para panoorin ang fireworks. Bata, matanda, babae, lalake, bakla, tomboy. Masaya sila, maingay, galawgaw, magaganda pag sama-sama. Ok dito ang new year. |

| I Hate Committees! |
[Nov. 6th, 2007|12:29 am] |
Specially creative committees. A creative committee is an oxymoron. Creative adventures require a singularity in vision and execution, a condition totally alien to a committee. Committees beat the shit out of a vision! Committees hammer out some polite form of consensus that serve no one but its members! Creativity was never a democracy! Hell, even theater with an abundance of divas requires a director! I hate I hate committees and I hate myself more for allowing myself to be dragged into one! Committee is a condition where everyone is mildly happy. Mildly happy is like wearing an ill-fitting coat of contentment. Mildly happy is an unfinished smile, never touching the eyes, never enough payment for the effort of being correct for politics' sake. Arrrrrrgh! Vaguely pissed is bettter than mildly happy! Once in a while I need hate, loathing, aversion. Our likes, loves, and preferences describe who we are but only in terms permeable and therefore negotiable. But hate and dislike and loathing and aversion draw unmistakable borders between our true selves and the rest of the world. And should anyone cross those borders we will take offense, take arms, shoot, and die if we must. Let my hate for commitees hang by my borders like heads impaled on spears warning anyone and everyone to get the hell off my country!
I'm being melodramatic but that's because I hate committees! |

| New Office : Details of My Room |
[Aug. 17th, 2007|02:10 pm] |

Atelier was the concept for the new office: a space devoted to creation, materials & craft. Or baka naman, marami lang akong kilalang designers? Anyway. The materials and finishes I chose suggest " things still being finished". Wood are stripped and waxed or stripped and stained white. Fabrics have pronounced simple weaves, parang sako ba or muslin for patterns or parang Chanel suits. Lighting fixtures are either glass or milky glass.
P.S. Oo may kurtina ako sa opisina. Madaling labhan at palitan ng kulay kung sawa na ako. |

| New Office : CD and BUD Rooms |
[Aug. 17th, 2007|12:46 am] |
Arranged along the windows are the rooms for directors: creative directors, business unit directors, and other director-ending positions. There are 7 CDs on the 6th floor, 6 BUDs on the 5th floor, and 4 other directors on the 7th floor. The rooms are small lang naman. My concept of managers and space is, you get a room but you don't get blinds so you can't deprive people in the middle of the room of light. You get a room but the wall facing the staff is transparent and you don't have a door. You better live by example because you are visible to all. Your privacy and priviledge is only as substantial as the respect you erect. If you really need to talk to someone privately, like maybe gripe and fire, then get a meeting room. The upside is you get to decorate -- to some extent. All their tables are from Ikea. The one pictured above is Juju's room. You can also see Jayjay standing behind the glass partition of his room.
Here are some things you may find in their rooms: an Audrey Hepburn doll, a creepy oil painting of a Hannibal Lecter-like clown, cages and a kiss in Paris, and of course a phone in the shape of a cat. Details and ideas stand out when the rest of the space is white and kept clean and bare. |

| New Office : 6th Floor Meeting Rooms |
[Aug. 16th, 2007|02:07 am] |
We have one conference room, one hall to fit all 130 employees, and 9 meeting spaces. We named them after major train stations in Paris and some places we like. Here are the first three meeting spaces. This is Lyon on 6th floor. The table and chairs are from Evangelista, very pang nanay so I had the table painted a flat Publicis Red. The chairs' seats and back cushions are upholstered in different colored fabrics. ( Read more... ) |

| The New Office |
[Aug. 14th, 2007|03:48 pm] |
If I strain, lean forward, just a bit more, i'll make it over the finish line. The new office will be done. it's an addiction: building, renovating, designing, decorating. I promise myself never to do it again, but I still roll up my sleeves and expose my veins to the task. My father is a civil engineer so maybe it's genetic. More to do more to do then I can relax and pay attention to my own boredom.
That's my room, deadlines are more bearable with a chandelier. Promise. And fresh flowers, i just put it in the policy to make sure. I'm not sure if it's legal, but flowers seem like a good idea.
The complete pictorial next time, just have to attend to my one hundred plus plus punchlist. It's four floors of white and glass and pools of warm light. It looks like a house really, i think. |
