06:45 am - How do they get PhDs?
User comes to me yesterday having issues with firefox chewing on itself and segfaulting. User is on an Ultra 5 with the extra crappy 360MHz CPUs (Can you say 256kB L2?), 256MB main memory, and 512MB swap. All in all, that's the swap setup that I would likely put if I were installing such a calibre box.
The problem: The user's workstation was just upgraded from Sol9 to Sol10 which in and of itself isn't a problem. The problem: he keeps staroffice 7, acroread, firefox, and exmh all open.
And he wonders why the hell his box is constantly thrashing? Hell firefox has a footprint of about 160MB after being open about 48 hours.
Honestly, how does one get a PhD, yet not see the problem with that.

I cannot confirm or deny that I've ever rappelled in dorms on this campus, but FFS I used real static and dynamic rope as appropriate!
