Babylon 5 first - ( Infection )

Rumours abound over on FSU that Katia Gordeeva and Ilia Kulik have separated... this makes me sad.

Someone else wants to know what happened to Amanda Marshall... such a good question.

I had other thoughts I'm sure but I can't remember them.

The great Babylon 5 rewatch continues with last night's being Born to the Purple. Also known as "Oh Londo!" I'd forgotten how much he actually gets hurt in this episode, when he is actually in love with Adira but she's double crossing him... his inability to believe it at first, the look on his face when he finds out his purple files have been accessed, his reaction when he's talking to Sinclair, pleading with him for help... how is it possible that I have forgotten what a great ep this is for Peter Jurasik?

And also for Claudia Christian, what with the father and Gold Channel sub plot. The scenes with her and Garibaldi also remind me that I mildly shipped then, way back when.

Talia is not annoying me nearly as much this go around. The whole double cross at the end, and a poor unsuspecting G'Kar was nicely played.

Is it just me, or were they starting off a Sinclair/Talia angle? Or is it my shippy nature again?

Is it midterm yet?

School began today... this year's crop seem like a nice bunch, they're quiet (mostly) when they should be, have identified one notice box but it's not rudeness, just general high spirits which I'm sure will dampen when it's not the first day and there's a bit more in the area of real work being done. On the bright side, they were really quiet when HelsinkiPrincipal was in the room, and fairly quiet when he was talking to me outside the door so I'm taking that as a win.

On the down side, there are some of them who are chronically weak. And not just RomanianGypsyChildWhoHasLittleEnglish&NoLiteracy. I'm talking about the ten year old kid whose first language is English who did not know the word "thousand". There's 6 out of 24 (which does not count RGCWHLE&NL) under the 10th percentile in English and Maths, and overall, Maths is slightly better than English, with English comprehension being better than vocabulary. Cue me looking at website with tips to increase vocab.

On the bright side, any improvement will be an improvement, the only way is up etc etc.

On the not so bright side, it's going to be a long hard slog.

But yet! No Unholy Trinity so Yay!!

HelsinkiHusband and I decided last night to do a Babylon 5 rewatch in preparation for the Ball in February. (Londo and Vir people, Londo and Vir!)

So far, we've looked at Midnight on the Firing Line and Soul Hunter. I'd forgotten how much detail there is at the start that goes in later on - Londo and G'Kar's hatred of one another, Londo's dream, Ivanova's hatred of the Psi Corps... and in Soul Hunter, the line to Delenn about "You would do that?" obviously foreshadowing the events of Chrysalis... for some reason, I thought that was the episode where we learned about Sinclair having a Minbari soul, but it wasn't... shall have to keep on watching!

Also funny to see how far they all came... thank God Ivanova got rid of that big ol' stick up her ass! And hard to see Richard Biggs standing there, talking about how short life is, and just when you've got it all figured out, it's taken away from you...

Which might not have been the thing for me to look at this morning, being as this afternoon I was at the funeral of the baby of one of the cleaners from the school... he was born with Edwards Syndrome (Trisomy 18) and lived for four weeks and four days - the median age for a child born with that is between 5 and 15 days. There is nothing sadder in the world than the sight of a little white coffin going down the aisle of the church in his daddy's arms.

Not enough yuck in the world! Browsing wikipedia for random stuff, I key in Anne of Green Gables and find links to a new Sullivan movie. Having disregarded from my brain the travesty that was Anne 3, I click on the link to find that

(a) Barbara Hershey will play Anne. *boggles*

(b) The synposis reads thus.

Anne, now a middle-aged woman, is troubled by recent events in her life. Her husband, Gilbert, has been killed overseas as a medical doctor during World War II. Her two daughters are pre-occupied with their own young families and her adopted son Dominic has yet to return from the war. How did it get to be so near to September 1st? Seriously, I've not been in the classroom since June 18th, I've never had as long a summer and I've never felt less rested! Heading in for a couple of hours tomorrow since I know I left my class in a heap (and there were kids in and out in the week I wasn't there to collect books and stuff) so lord knows what it's like. I've not seen a class list yet, ergo the names aren't written in my roll book, I've not had a chance to talk to LastYear'sTeacher about them... it's all very up in the air at the moment!

But hey, after last week's brilliant summer course, at least I feel confident to teach music! (And strangely, no, that is not sarcasm!)

Submitted my names to ithurtsmybrain earlier on, in the hopes that it'll get me writing again. Not that I've had a lot of time to write lately, or even been inspired... Himself and myself have been on a mini Trek binge in the last 24 hours, we looked at All Good Things last night, and The Pegasus over dinner tonight... this is what happens when his collectors' plates go up on the wall!!!

There may be, quite simply, not enough woe in the world. I'm there this evening, with my dinner, wanting to look at something to chill out, as my mouth feels like it is not my own after an appointment with the orthodontist. So I say to myself, "Self," I say, "What can I look at that is appropriate to my miserable mood?"

Then I say to myself, with a little nod to maggis "Put on Due South, Juliet is Bleeding because (a) it's a kick ass episode and (b) you'll be so wrung out after looking at that, you won't care about your mouth."

So I did. And I've not seen that ep since I got the DVDs, and loved it then, and it's just as good as I remembered it, and the whole car blowing up thing (which I saw back in the day, pre internet, pre spoilers, had no idea it was coming and just was dumbfounded, even going to smiley_b "Did they just do that?) was just as jaw dropping as ever, and then it happens.

MY DISC FREEZES MID SCENE!

I mutter curses, I take it out, I clean it. It happens again. Lather, rinse repeat, same result.

MY DUE SOUTH DVDS ARE DEFECTIVE, FROM NOWHERE, IN MY FAVOURITE EPISODE! (OK, it may be tied for first with Victoria's Secret but it's my LJ, I'll be dramatic if I want to.)

And I can't figure out why, unless they came loose in the move and scratched then... I know I lent out my S3s to someone but can't remember if they took the S2 as well... surely if they weren't working, something would have been said?

Collected my G4 photos from the chemist today. (Yes, I still use film!!)

maggis, I just found the very first photo I took all weekend, and the second I looked at it, I could hear you squealing even though you've not seen it. *bounces*

I always do this... the minute I'm at a con, I think to myself, "Why not upgrade to a digital SLR?" This time, I'd talked myself into it, I even spent yesterday researching, and then I see the photos I get and... damn!

ETA: From that roll, there are three pictures that evoke similar reactions. Also, from another, Jamie Bamber looks damn fine.

I have just been going through all the word docs on my computer to see how many fics I have to upload to my website.

*boggles* For someone who didn't write much this year, there's a lot of them! (Yes, this is what I'm doing instead of packing. Bad me.)

Also, in a worrying related note, I've found a fic I wrote and didn't post. Which wouldn't be the first time, I grant you, but this is a short snappy one and I usually post those fairly quickly. So I figured I'd do it now.
