nine inch nails [Sunday July 27th, 2008 at 2:04am] t_shirt_surgery [esnetsap] [ mood | sleepy ] [ music | adrianne - the orion experience ] ... no, not really. i honestly wouldn't want nine inch nails and i don't really fancy the band's music either, but my nails are seriously lacking the girly factor. i.e. i bite them. a lot. since i started teaching myself guitar i've started to leave them alone a bit, but well, they're still short. my longest nail is 6 millimetres. ouch. so, inspired by my lack of nails, i decided to do a recon... i didn't get a chance to take a picture of the original tee, because i only found this site in the middle of the reconstructing process. uh i started with a plain black tee, men's size xxs, which was still hella loose for me. i painted the words "i bite" on it and then, because i obviously suffer from Itchy Fingers i pulled out my sewing kit and my fabric scissors and got to work. first i cut out the neckline and the back, and then i ripped the sleeves, then i pinned and sewed the back. i wanted a slouchy, raw-edged scoopnecked tank that i could pair with high-waisted skirts or jeans, and that's exactly what i got after 2 hours (i cannot sew fast to save my life). thank god i wanted it raw-edged 'cause i'd have died sewing up all the hems and shit. (p.s. kinda  image-heavy, do be warned) ( cut! coz im emo ) 05 / love♥

"Do I look like a guy with a plan?" [Friday July 25th, 2008 at 10:37pm] carousels I typed up this long, review-y thing about The Dark Knight. Then I realized the internet and tv and radio and magazines are all exploding with reviews parallel to mine. Truth is, this movie was so undeniably good. It had its flaws, but to be honest, not many of them. It was just generally so rewarding to watch. Great acting, sometimes hilarious, sometimes really meaningful dialogues (it almost never got cheesy- that is a comic-book adapted movie record right there for you), incredible action packed scenes completed with probably the best movie score ever. The character development is as real as it gets in a movie like this. Christian Bale is amazing. It's like he waited all his life to play Bruce Wayne- and I say that while keeping in mind all the "indie" stuff he did and was good in. Aaron Eckhart surprisingly steals the show at some point. Gary Oldman, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman are, well, they can do no wrong in my eyes. Maggie Gyllenhaal is the only one that disappointed me with the acting but at least she still had her cool vibe. And Heath Ledger's acting is legendary. Believe the hype. Expect something even more. Chris Nolan is incredible for making this movie that just works. I can't wait to see it again and again. love♥

I am planning a shirt that will be made larger than it was originally and want to add ruching.  I understand how to do this (sew in a zig zag and gather) but doesnt it give the same effect as sewing over stretched elastic?  making "ruches" with elastic adds a lot of stretchiness to the design, does ruching do that too?  If not, then are there any advantages in ruching, other than not having to actually buy any elastic? I just wondered what your experiences/ opinions/ preferences regarding ruching are...... I'll post my shirt when its finished. Cheers 05 / love♥
