Current mood: confused

I didn't even know I'd been pregnant...
I just received a bill in the mail from Kaiser Permanente in the amount of $265 for having a baby.

I'm NOT joking.

As I have never met the child or the father, and there is no indication of the sex of the baby on the bill, giving a name to my son/daughter is quite a daunting task. And as I don't know anything about the father's income, I'm also having a hard time figuring out how much child support to pursue (and from whom).

Seriously, though. The bill is addressed to me (identical first name, middle initial, and last name), at my home address, on official Kaiser letterhead/paper. Service Date was 10/20/04, and under "Account Activity" it says "NEWBORN H&P, NOT HOSPITAL."

Does anybody have any idea what this actually means?

Just think of it like monopoly. You've just pulled a community chest card, and now you owe the hospital some money. Just hope for the 4th place beauty contest prize so that you can pay the candystripers off.

I came in to Sutter emergency with a smashed up knee and, due to a mixup in paperwork, the nurse insisted that i had a broken hand that needed to be X-Rayed... even after I showed her that my hands were in perfectly fine condition.

One day later, same hospital, this time I'm there with my brother, who quite obviously has an appendicitis.
Doctor: "looks like he has an appendicitis. I'll have them run some tests then come back when i have the results. It shouldn't take very long."
*leaves*
*Nurse comes and draws blood*
*two hours pass*
* I go find the doctor to see why things are taking so long*
Doctor: "I'm still waiting for the results from his CT"
Me: "He hasn't had a cat scan."
Doctor: "what do you mean, I ordered it over two hour ago"
Nurse:"huh. apparently radiology isn't receiving any of the files we send them."

I'd hate to think what would happen if they mixed the paperwork up over administering a drug.
