Okay, having caught up on the majority of Code Geass (ugh, why am I still watching this? I end up wanting to throw something at my computer screen by the end of every episode), I have to say that as of episode eighteen of season two, I think Lelouch is either an epic dumbass disguised as a genius, or the number one example that Murphy's Law is the dominating One Truth of the Universe.

Augh... Shot through the heart twice by series endings in one month, and it's only two weeks in. After stalling forever because of class and work, I finally finished Gurren Lagann a couple of weeks ago, and Dead Like Me this morning.
Oh, God. I think I screamed at the Gurren Lagann ending, and I'm still a sobbing mess from Dead Like Me.

So if you point out a minor time fudge in the art of a series, you're a nitpicking hypocrite who doesn't really love the series, despite having spent the last three years or so expending 85% or more of your fan energy on it. Good to know, fm_alchemist, thanks for pointing that out to me.
Now I'm starting to see why so many people I know have given up and jumped ship to other fandoms.
Anybody else remember when posts speculating on timeline and tech and anachronisms and such were common there? I guess that only applies to the anime, though.

I just noticed a little detail that bugs me about the manga:
Here's Havoc's lighter, as used in chapter 38:
http://www.onemanga.com/Full_Metal_Alchemist/38/38/ . It's very obviously modeled after a Zippo. There's just one teeny problem.
The series takes place in the late 1910s, and most things, medical tech aside, fit that.
This particular model of cigarette lighter wasn't first produced until '33.
Now, box pocket lighters, the inspirations for Zippos, did exist in the '10s in Europe, especially Austria. But as you can see here, their inner workings are very different from both Zippos and Havoc's lighter.
I suppose it's another example of the Schizo Tech in Fullmetal Alchemist, or just a Rule of Cool thing, since from what I've read, the original box pocket lighters were sort of a pain in the ass to get lit and keep lit, but still. It's just one of those little things that nags at me.
