For Cecilia and Morgan A Marriage Toast (Comedic) may you be satisfied with your life when God calls you home may your name be remembered by your friends and forgotten by your enemies may evil be confused on the way to your door and blinded to your faults.
may you be able to drink like an irishman, run like a mexican, swim like a cuban, and screw like a jamacian. may you have the manners of the british and the love-sense of the french, the stoicism of the russian, and cooking skills of the italians. above them, may you have the freedom of an american.
may you never have to kill anyone that doesn't deserve a slow death anyway. may you never have to wear a cardboard belt. may your house be defensible on three sides and impentrable on the fourth.
live long, and may God smile upon your new life together. live long, and may you know happiness in most of your days. live long and prosper.
“A Marital Blessing” You who have sworn your lives to each other You who have sworn before God and man You who must now live with your choices, together. May God hold you in the hollow of His hand May your line prosper and your name be remembered May you live in Veritas, keeping your honor clean. Let it be said of you: They have love. Let your joys be doubled and your pains halved. Let your children receive a double portion of your spirit.
and those others who are to be married soon. all rights of above reserved to me, etc, etc. don't bloody repost w/out permission and all that. | | Saturday, August 23rd, 2008 | | 9:10 pm |

poetry is progressing well - under 50 lines to go on The Dragon and The Tree (norse mythos)
someone asked recently if I have a temper. naturally, I do. it's just that I rarely have chance or need of its use. partly that's a result of my being in the military (and all that it entails) - mostly, though, I don't use my temper because either a: it's not worth the time and effort, or b: if I really let it go, Destruction comes out. he's not a bad guy, really - great sense of humor if nothing else, but he's got a tendency to go over the edge. which, considering how much I carry and use my blades, can be a really bad thing. to wit: I don't let myself lose control because the results will be very, very bad.
on a different but related level, the same goes for my emotions - it's not that I don't have them - it's that I don't often express them, in mannerisms, in voice, in facial expressions, etc.
I put this down partly to it being a natural mask, partly to a respect of other people, and partly to it being interesting to see other's reactions as opposed to my own. that, and when I do express emotions, I tend to do so differently than most people I know.
take, for example, the concept of love - in the eros form. it's not that I don't want a serious relationship. most of the time, I'm hornier than a vulcan during pon farr, though I almost never show, discuss, or act on such as will most males these days. most of them will do and say most anything to get a kiss, or get laid, or to pick up on an attractive female - I don't. I don't act on my natural urges towards sex, because of the oaths and vows I've taken as part of my chosen form of spirituality (and in a lesser context, religion). I don't act on the urges towards a serious relationship, however much I desire to, because I don't believe that long range relationships can work well with a military lifestyle. the divorce rate alone for military with at least one deployment is around 85%.
some will argue, then, for short range, serious relationships in the military, or even for contract marriage. I'm against contract marriage for personal reasons having nothing to do with religion or spirituality and most everything to do with basic human psychology, though that's another rant-lecture. I'm not against short range serious relationships in the military, but that would require finding a good woman around wherever I'm stationed at the time - of which is perhaps 1 or 2% of the military in total, and those who happened to be stationed anywhere near me are generally in a serious relationship already, or are not Christian in any form.
which leaves, currently, long range relationships which I can't and won't act on while in the military, unless God specifically directs otherwise. they're hard enough to begin with, and when deployments and military scheduling are factored in, even harder. all of which translates to not being fair to the Other that I love.
on a lighter note, I finally got my cast off, and should have full mobility back in about a month or so, if all goes well. | | Wednesday, August 13th, 2008 | | 7:15 am |
liff working on renting a house out here w/some military friends o mine.
