Today, I finally managed to get to a Baysox game. It was their first playoff game in 11 years.
Unfortunately, they lost 6-5 in 12 innings.
Just made it home.
And for you daredevils, the highlight of the game; Two thrown bats made it into the stands, one from each team. About 25 ft. from me. |

The Bush Administration has not been known for it's savvy management. Bush's style is to do things that can be done in a straightforward manner, ignore the planning for "what happens next," put people into positions of authority who are ideologically pure and preferably Bush supporters without a great deal of regard to what skills are necessary to run the agency of which they are put in charge.
Bush thinks that generally the government shouldn't do a lot as service. If services are reduced, taxes will go down, and by "taxes" we mean those that important people pay. If the point of an agency is to reduce it's size and impact, it is more important that you find someone interested in that than the actual stated purpose of the agency.
You get a FEMA that really thinks that each state should be responsible for it's own disasters. You get a Department of Labor that is anti-union. You get an Interior Department that sees itself as the servant of the timber and oil industries.
Even when FEMA and Bush embarrassed themselves during and after Katrina, you find only duct tape management; if there's a hole big enough to embarrass us in front of the neighbors, duct tape it, otherwise, reduce services.
This is what happens when there is a fundamental difference of opinion between the stated goals of government and the man in charge. |

A friend of mine from out of town wanted to know what I knew about Club Orpheus in Baltimore.
She'll be in Baltimore soon and she's been invited to play there.
I had to say I wasn't familiar with it.
Any of my friends been there? What kind of reputation does it have? She's relatively new to the public bdsm scene. |

A study of the effects of public policy on abortion rates during the past two decades shows that providing social and economic supports for women and family contributes to a significant reduction in abortions, according to Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good.
The group, founded in 2005 and dedicated to 'promoting awareness of the Catholic social tradition" said the findings should provide common ground for both Republicans and Democrats interested in reducing the rate of abortion in the United States.
The study was released Aug. 27 in Denver during a town hall meeting sponsored by Democrats for Life of America.
According to the study, a recent survey of women who obtained abortions showed that nearly 75 percent "cited economic hardship as a reason for obtaining an abortion; three-fourths also cited having a child as interfering with work or school, or child care responsibilities as a reason."
Little was known, however, about "how economic policies aimed at supporting low-income mothers and working families affect the abortion rate," according to the study.
The study, conducted by Joseph Wright, a political science professor at Penn State University and a visiting fellow at the University of Notre Dame, and Michael Bailey, a professor of American government at Georgetown University, found that assistance to families and access to employment correlated to significantly lower rates of abortion.
