Futureshop Butterflies with Huge Silver Balls [Jun. 24th, 2008|10:59 am]
[mood | content]

Me and Jack saw a Monarch Butterfly in Futureshop last week.
He was just fluttering around looking at the DVD's. It was kind of magical. Then someone came and took him away and that was kind of sad.

Sometime last week we were walking back to our car from the grocery store and Jack turns to me and said "that truck has balls." Looking over I see this truck with a pair of huge silver balls hanging from the trailer hitch.
I wonder when we'll see him again.

Dog Fish [Jun. 14th, 2008|07:00 pm]
[mood | cheerful]
[music |"Sea of Love" - Cat Power]

I went for a walk this morning with my dad and Kaiya, our wascally golden lab/retriever.

We were walking at Marshall Fields along Vernon Creek. Kaiya loves jumping into the creek to take a quick dip, but the water is fairly high now and moving pretty fast so she knows to stay right close to the bank.

So today is no different, Kaiya jumps in and has a little swim and then goes back to running around. Minutes later she's back in the water. And so on until we reach the end of the trail and start to head back.

She rushed down to the bank to jump in and to her delight discovers a rather large patch of mud. Being full of delicious smells and muckity muck she had to roll around in it and get herself completely covered. And that was okay.

Instead of jumping into the water to wash off however she runs back up to the trail and shakes, getting mud all over us. And that was okay.

Little did we know that down the trail on the bank of the creek laid a very large rotting fish.

And of course Kaiya went straight to it and rolled around on it for a good 15 minutes and we're yelling at her all the while to come back up. She knew we couldn't get to her however so she didn't listen. When she finally did come back up she STANK to high heaven and she was very pleased with herself and refused all attempts to get her back into the water. And that wasn't okay.

So after many long scrubs and cleanings when we got home she still smells like fish and is still very much pleased with herself.

It.....CAME!!!

It feels completely bizarre to hold this thing in my hands and finally see a finished product all shiney and new after all this time.

And as far as I can tell there aren't any of the mistakes I feared might be in it so...this is the one :P

I'll post a picture of it later today.

[music |"Gee Baby Aint I Good To You" - Oscar Peterson]

Well it didn't arrive today either.  Oh well.

Saw Iron Man last night.  It was excellent, one of the best superhero movies thus far.  Robert Downey Jr pretty much kicks ass.  Quite entertaining.  Thursday night appears to be thee night to go see movies, nary a person there.

Well craptastic monkey balls...
It didn't come today either.

That leaves only one more day for it to come before the firey apocolyptical end of the earth weekend where there is no post.

In other news, exactly one year from today the new Star Trek movie comes to theaters.

Strikey? [May. 7th, 2008|09:30 am]
[mood | annoyed]

The SAG/AMPTP talks are over and they've failed to come to any decision. You think they would have been really working to avoid a strike like the last one which hurt everyone creatively and financially. Unlike the WGA strike however, which when it happened but they were still able to curn out products due to the supply of scripts, if the SAG goes on strike everything will just...stop. Can't really shoot all those scripts without any actors.
Their deal ends June 30 so if there will be a strike it hopefully wont occur until then. I don't think anyone wants a strike though so hopefully they'll be able to get a good deal when they head back to the table late May.

My nose is bleeding...

hello? [May. 6th, 2008|12:53 pm]
[mood | accomplished]
[music |"Bumpin' On Sunset" - Wes Montgomery]

Wow it's been over a year since I've posted here. My last post was about Olivia being born and now she's over a year old. She's walking and talking a bit although I've yet to see or hear either since this is a new development.

They'll be coming up in two weeks so I will get to witness this for myself.
Also I will finally get to present them with the super secret project I've been working on since before she was born. Not that it's actually taken me a year to finish I just have a severe case of procrastination. It's awful and I'm terrible for it. But I am finished now and I am awaiting its delivery all leather bound and purty looking and hopefully mistake free.

Once it arrives and I give it to Monica/Norbert/Olivia I'll post the entirety of it on my deviantart page (which I also haven't updated in forever or even visited for that matter.) Then you can all gaze at it in wonder and go "wow...it took you a year to do THAT?"

I've been so afraid of them finding out before hand and I can't believe I've actually kept it a secret for over a year so hopefully they don't stumble across this page and see this. So no one say anything!

Anyway...here's a small sample. Page 12 of my super cool new children's book about ghosts. Minus the text.

Page 12

I'm fairly happy with it on a whole. There's plenty of mistakes but I learnt a lot about what to do and not to do for my next project.

Aside from this I really haven't been doing too much artwork in between but I'm hoping to get back into it since me and Jack went to Opus in Kelowna a month ago and I bought 150 dollars worth of supplies. Courtesy of a snazzy Opus gift card I got from Jack for Christmas.

Here's a couple of pieces I did during breaks but they've been up on my deviantart for ages.

In The Rain

No Jimmy No!!

Jack has been into Six Feet Under for ages and I've watched a handful of episodes with her before finally deciding to start from the beginning. So I've been borrowing seasons from her and I just finished season 3 not too long ago and I'm hooked now. Michael C. Hall is great as David the homosexual funeral director but I was a little more familiar with him as Dexter Morgan the blood splatter analyst/serial killer from Dexter. David is a completely different character though and he makes it very easy to seperate the two, but sometimes I see a gleam in his eye and wonder if he killed the person he's filling up with embalming fluid. He's one talented guy.

Speaking of Dexter, it's an awesome show and I'm really looking forward to season three this fall. I have no clue how they're going to follow such a great season though. Of course I thought that at the end of season one as well. Ugh Lila I hated you so much!!

Lost is having an excellent forth season now they they have an end date for the series. More shows should do that instead of going on and on until it sinks into the craphole. They keep killing everyone though! No one is safe, which is how it should be.

Wow, for someone with no access to television I'm a bit of a tv whore.

I should stop and go get some work done now or else I'll continue being all over the place.

Take care!

[mood | content]
[music |Stochelo Rosenberg - "Pent Up House"]

I had a dream last night that I've already forgotten except for the fact that my sister had a girl in it which I've suspected all along.

Her due date is the 28th of March, so it could be any day now although the "peoples" think that she'll be a little late. So I may have a niece or nephew with the same birthday as me (April 4th).

I'm excited. I thought yesterday that'd I'd find a starfleet baby uniform. Monica would never go for it though, and I realized it's kind of stupid. Oh well. I'll just have to shot for favourite uncle...which shouldn't be too hard because Norbert's siblings live in Ontario.

Pet Peeve #1 - Movie Posters [Mar. 17th, 2007|02:27 pm]
[mood | content]

I haven't posted anything for a while. I still don't really have anything to post but I'm bored.

Lately I've been very irritated by dvd covers, or at least brought up the topic a lot. I love movie posters. They can be incredible works on art at times. The first item that will attract you to an upcoming movie. But for some reason people seem to take incredible poster art and change it into crap for the dvd cover.

Here's a small sampling of some great movie posters that have been turned into crap for their respective dvd's.

title or description

title or description

I love The Fountain movie poster, it's great and mysterious but the dvd cover makes it look like every other movie out there. How depressing.

More posters! Yay! )

In other news my sister's due date is March 28th but it could be any day now. I'll be an uncle soon and I'm kind of excited about it. I've been working on a childrens book for her. I have the story and storyboards and character design all done I just have to start the final artwork. I'm such a procrastinator though, it's really bad. I could have probably had it done by now. I need to get past that if I'm ever going to do anything.

I watched Casino Royale the other day. I couldn't get used to Daniel Craig as Bond though, he just looks and acts so much more different then any of the other Bonds. It was a really good film though, one of the better Bonds.

So long.

Subtitles and Magic [Feb. 23rd, 2007|09:35 pm]
[mood | full]

I went to see Pan's Labyrinth with Jack a few days ago. It was one of those movies I had been really exicted about since I first heard about it over a year ago and I naturally assumed that it would never come to Vernon. However as it got more and more popular and spread to more and more places I gained hope that it would at least show up at the Towne Theatre, but it showed up at Famous Players instead!

So I went and saw it and loved it. A great story, incredible makeup, great acting, and most important of all I actually remembered it as I left the theatre and have been thinking and talking about it a lot.

In case you didn't know, it is a spanish language film. Therefore...subtitles. For some reason this word strikes fear and instant dis-approval into the minds of people. Reading while at the theatre?? How totally not fun!! I don't want to think while watching a movie much less read!!!

I for one love subtitles. I think there's something magical about watching a film in a different language, it seems more unique and you pay more attention to the story. If you aren't familiar with the language you can make the actors deliver the lines the way you see them in your head.

So I went to see Pan's Labyrinth and there were maybe 20 people in the theatre. The theatre dimmed, the film started, the voice over began...and...wait..subtitles?? Whispers of "what the fuck is this??" and "ughh subtitles" reached my ears. A couple of people walked out at this point I believe. Walking out just purely based on the fact that the movie was in a different language.

I had told my parents about the movie and they went to see it tonight. In front of the theatre entrence there was a sign that informed you the movie was subtitled. I guess people had wanted their money back so they needed to protect themselves. There were maybe 10 people in the audience this time and apparently 2-3 of them walked out as well when the movie began.

I'm not sure what the point of this was. I haven't posted in a while and I guess I don't like it when people don't give movies a chance based on stupid things like language. Oh well.

My sister is going to be giving birth late March. I'll have my first neice or nephew soon. I'm kind of excited about that. I'm in the process of writing them a children's book. I'm fairly happy with what I have so far, I just need to start work on the illustrations. I found it hard to edit out all my usual bood and odd little dead characters from it to make it a wholesome children's piece. I had another idea for children's book I'd like to do for them as well about a ghost that'd be a little simpler so...they may end up with two. Hopefully it all works out :D

Reading Material [Jan. 25th, 2007|12:55 pm]
[mood | curious]
[music |The Rubber Maids - "Clean"]

Okay, who here needs to have reading material in the bathroom?

Lately I've come to realise I'm a little obsessive about it. I need to have something, doesn't matter what really. Anything will do, back of a dvd, flyers, jars of cabbage, etc.

I seem to end up spending more time searching for the reading article than I do in the actual bathroom. I'd almost just as soon crap my pants than to be without something to read.

Does anyone else have this problem?

What do you read in the bathroom? Is there some special bathroom book that's exclusively for the ol' W.C?

there's needles in my belly butten [Jan. 12th, 2007|09:19 pm]
[mood | curious]

Took down the Christmas tree today. A little later than usual I think.

Putting the tree up, stringing the lights, and putting up the decorations is always such a delicate ritual. Everyone has certain decorations that are "theirs" to put up. There's Christmas music and snacks and a merry ol' time had by all.

Flash forward to a certain date in January. The lights are ripped off the tree, the decorations crudely yanked off in a flurry of dried needles, the only music is the roar of the vacuum cleaner, the only snacks are whatever stale candy canes have remained hidden behind decorations, and at the end of it all the tree carcass is flung outside in the snowback to be taken away and shredded at a later date.

Every holiday ends with carnage.

My family goes to this Christmas tree party every year. It's the first Saturday of Decemeber. The folks who put it on have many acres of land full of trees. There's about 20-30 of us who attend every year. Mulled wine, great food, live music, games, it's a lot of fun. When you get there you can throw on your boots and trump off into the snow to find yourself a tree to cut down and then haul it back to your car. It's quite a cool experience and we've done it for the last..10 years or so...god :S
The tree then sits outside the house for a while and it's usually up around...a week to two weeks before Christmas.

When do you/or have you usually had your tree up by...and then how soon after Christmas does it come down?

I know some people take it down right after Christmas but I couldn't imagine doing that. It just seems to soon.
