I'm sure some of us remember the insanity of the $21,149.00 Master Chief costume.
So sticking to the topic:
Who's who for Halloween, and how much would you spend/have you spent on a costume? ;]

I was thinking about picking up the orange box for the 360 since I really enjoyed playing portal on my friend's pc. Since it comes with Half Life 2 episode 2 I was curious about something. Is it an actual sequel to Half Life 2 or more like some sort of expanded version? Will I need to play Half Life 1 and 2 episode one to really get into it or does it stand alone okay?

Hey guys!
I was wondering if anyone knew of a webpage (or maybe someone here might know?) that might have information about a certain game, and if might be available in North America in the future?
The game I'm interested in, is Mamegoma for the Nintendo DS.
I've only seen it in Japanese, and I was wondering if it might be available for North America, or where I could suggest it to have it available here, since I don't understand Japanese (nor do I know if it would work on my DS).
Could anyone help me out? :)

| I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream |

| ] |
Last night a friend of a friend brought up a old video game called I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream. I’d never heard of it. Has anyone else? has anyone played it; if so, what'd you think of it?
[…] based upon Harlan Ellison’s short story of the same name. It is about an evil computer named AM that has destroyed all of humanity except for five people he has been keeping alive and torturing for the past 109 years. Each survivor has a fatal flaw in his or her character, and in an attempt to crush their spirits, AM has constructed a metaphorical adventure for each that preys upon their weaknesses. To succeed in the game, the player must make ethical choices to prove to the evil computer that humans are better than machines, because they have the ability to redeem themselves.
Co-designed by Ellison and published by Cyberdreams in 1995, the game was a work of interactive fiction with psychological and ethical themes. Woven into the fabric of the story were ethical dilemmas dealing with issues including the horrors of insanity, selfishness, rape, racism, paranoia, and genocide. [1] The theme of technology taking over is popular; it’s used in movies like Terminator and games such as System Shock 2 and Portal. To expand, one could say the broader theme is that of humanity losing control and include movies such as Planet of the Apes to that list. But I may be getting too analytical.
You Tube has a couple videos, including this one, with a link to a downloadable copy -- I’ve not tried it myself yet so I can’t vouch for the site -- and if you’re curious about the short story upon which it’s based, you can read online or download it (for free?) here. It's pretty twisted.
[EDIT] Thanks to hinata19 who provided the link to the link, you can also download the story in pdf form without having to log into any site here.

Today is Love your Body day. A day organized by the National Organization of Women to start a movement of encouraging healthy body images in media. The campaign works to raise awareness about women's health, body image and self-esteem. We at GamingAngels.com and the participating sites could not agree more. I've been having some problems with my Xbox and wondered if anyone here had any experience with similar problems. I bought an Xbox 360 Elite about 3 months ago. Within about 2 weeks I was getting wierd graphical glitches and games freezing up. The worst offender seemed to be when I played Rock Band online on Xbox Live, so I chalked it up to there being a problem with the disk or my connection, but it then seeped even into games like Hexic and occasionally made them unplayable because of flashing areas on the screen. Because it only happened occasionally, I just lived with it. I bought a copy of GHIII preowned a few weeks ago, and it wouldn't even get past the loading screen. Yesterday though the console more or less just died; the Xbox won't even get past the first menu at best, sometimes it won't even get past he Xbox logo without freezing to a halt. It isn't overheating and here arn't any error messages or red lights, it just simply won't start up.
Anyway, the company we bought it from (GAME, if it matters) has offered to replace it quibble free because it's still under warranty, but my questions are many:
I've bought quite a few games and expansions from the XBLA and have a lot of game saves on the Elite's hard drive. If we were return the console to the place we bought it from and they gave us a new one, would that all be gone? Would I have to buy a memory card to rescue the saved games, or can they be salvaged somehow? Would I have to buy all of the downloaded games again? Would I have to buy a new gamertag and lose all my gamer point and achievements or can I 'recover' the tag on a new console?
I would have gone to the Xbox forums or an Xbox community on LJ but a lot of Xbox gamers quite intimidate me and I'm a big girl's blouse. Thanks in advice for any help you can give!

This is, according to MSNBC, the best video game quotes. If you don't feel like looking, don't worry, the list is pretty lame so you're not missing much.
But it does bring to mind that some games have a good quote or two that ARE worth mentioning.
So, what are YOUR favorite game quotes? (please state what character and game the quote is from)

The Escapist has an interesting article about virtual goods and rights. Our rights to virtual goods are becoming more and more important with the rise of games and websites that offer these goods. The article also contains a link to a news article about a number of boys who were arrested and tried for virtual theft in the Netherlands. A few days ago, another two boys were arrested in the Netherlands for a similar case, only they had beaten up a boy to force him to give his uber-sword to them, and they could therefore be charged with assault, instead of virtual theft.
So what do you think? To what extent should there be laws on virtual goods? Or should these laws be enforced by the provider of the website or the producer of the game? Should someone be charged with stealing if the thing he steals is not real? Discuss...

Okay, so, if you read my last post, this will make sense to you. =P
I've gone with the role of women in Final Fantasy 7. I think it'd be an easier thing to write about, and plus I get to talk about Tifa loads, so... lol.
But I just thought i'd post my proposal for you all, to see what you think. =]
Thanks for everyone's help with this, it was really appreciated. If anyone has any ideas on things to write about in the actual essay, it would really be great. ^_^ ( Essay Proposal )

So... out of curiosity and boredom while sitting in the library waiting to go to class...
I was wondering what games you all have on pre-order or plan on getting in the (near) future?
I currently have Fable II on pre-order and I'm planning on pre-ordering BanjoKazooie:N&B (...I really want the first game, lol) and I'll eventually pre-order the next Pokemon Ranger ^^ (...damn, I have weird tastes in games...ah well xD)
I also would like to get the new Gauntlet game coming out on the DS (whose date keeps getting pushed back)...though, that may have to wait...
So...what are you guys waiting for/pre-ordering?
