Greetings.
Looking for fandom posts? Yeah, those are f-locked, because while I adore fandom, I hate wank. I'm pretty easygoing about friending people though, so if you're a decent person, reasonably sane, and you remember to put long-ass posts and graphics behind a cut, drop me a comment or send me a message to be added.
I want carrot cake. Like, nowish.

Yeah, this isn't a bust of Julius Caesar. I'm sorry, it just isn't.
Here's a known bust of Julius Caesar; Here's another. I don't know who that bust represents, but I can tell you for certain it is not Gaius Julius Caesar. Come on, guys; even Zahi Hawass wouldn't make a claim that absurd.

CALIFORNIA, FUCK YEAH!!!
Oooh, and MSNBC's article links to a live vote on the topic. So far supporters of gay marriage are winning the vote, but it's a squeaker, no doubt because certain groups have encouraged their members (I said 'members,' heh heh) to go vote against it. So, you know, go vote for gay marriage rights and piss off a fundie today! Wheeee!
MSNBC also has a link to the entire ruling--it's 172 pages, but I really want to read it in its entirety--just not right now. Now, I'm going to have a drink and celebrate.

This is just...wow. (link goes to video of tonight's special comment from Keith Olbermann)
Oh I love this man. I love this man SO MUCH.
ETA: I totally forgot to thank
agentsculder for the link.
ETA 2: In case you can't watch the video, here's the transcript. Try and watch the video if you can, though. It's astounding.

I must have slept funny last night, because my neck is really sore. It's odd, because I slept well. So well I apparently didn't realize what I was doing to my neck, heh.
Dave went to the funeral this afternoon, and he's been stuck at a luncheon for hours now; he called me a while ago, complaining that it was taking forever, but he couldn't leave, because he drove his mother and one other woman to the funeral and the luncheon, so he had to wait until they were all done. Wait, no, I hear the garage door opening, so he must be home.
I wore my Obama shirt today, and when I dropped Jimmy off, nearly every mom in the class either gave me a high-five or asked me where I got it so they could get one. Apparently, we have a very liberal group of parents in this class, which is unusual for the suburb I live in--it's historically kind of Republican. Hmmmm. Maybe that's why it's such a great group of kids. ;)

The Electric Company is coming back.
With a writer from Law and Order: Criminal Intent, no less. I mean, it's Sesame Workshop, and they're terrific, but...The Electric Company, man. You can't remake that.

Oh, what a long day. What a long, long, fun day. So, Clay Day turned out to be freakin' adorable. All three kindergarten classes put on a show for the parents--they sang, they danced--sort of--they played xylophones, and, amazingly, they were all really well-behaved. No tears, no drama, no one ran off the stage in fear or peed themselves. So, by those lofty standards, it was a roaring success of a program.
Next we all sat down at a bunch of tables and made clay fish; Jimmy chose a yellow tang for his model. They're going to be fired in the kiln, and I guess the kids will glaze them and bring them home later. It was actually pretty fun, and Jimmy was pleased with the result of our joint effort. Afterwards, a bunch of us went to a nearby park for a picnic and some playtime/chat time. It was nice, if chilly--it's only 50°F today, and it's windy and wet, so we were all just chilled to the bone after about 2 hours.
I love this class, though, and these moms. The kids are great, all the parents are nice--not a stuck-up one among them, unlike at another school in our district, where I understand most of the kids are dropped off and picked up by nannies, and the parents only ever talk about what vacation they're taking next, and their cars and clothes and shit like that--and they're all involved with the school and their children, and genuinely interested in what goes on. Plus the faculty and staff have, so far, been amazing. When the kindergarteners learned about Monet in art class, the principal dressed up like Monet and took pictures with every one of them, just because.
It's been a great year, and I'm sorry to see it drawing to a close. I don't know if we're going to be able to top this.

I owe comments to several of you, but I'm very, very, very sleepy right now, and unless I get a second wind soon, I think I'll be going to bed astonishingly early.
Which means, for me, before 2AM. Heh.
Seriously, though, so tired, and tomorrow is something called "Clay Day" at school. I have no idea what it is, only that the kids put on a program of some kind, and we play with clay, I suppose. Or something. All I know is that we have to be there in the morning instead of the afternoon, and we're having a picnic afterwards. Which means I definitely need my rest. And coffee. LOTS AND LOTS OF COFFEE.
( Rambling about secondhand book shops and a pic under the cut )

Today's my busy busy day; Jimmy had his annual checkup this morning, and after I drop him off at school, I've got my volunteer work at the library. Anyway, Jimmy's healthy, which is no surprise, nor is how much he's grown: he's now 4'1" and 50 lbs. Good grief, no wonder he's always hungry. I swear, sometimes I drop him off at school, and when I pick him up he's taller.
I also foolishly volunteered to edit together a video we were making for Jimmy's teacher (it's Teacher Appreciation Week). One of the moms came up with the idea to ask the kids questions about school and their teacher, and then wait for the inevitably hilarious answers that would follow. Only this group of very clever, normally talkative children either clammed up or took the questions too seriously, leaving us with virtually nothing to work with. Seriously, when I finally uploaded all the footage to my computer, I nearly despaired, because there was just...nothing. Lots of dead air, interspersed with "I dunno" and "I forgot," and then some video of them goofing off. I panicked, I really did.
Finally, I just took the audio out, cobbled together some clips of the kids looking adorable, and set it to music. It came out well enough, considering what we had to work with, and I hope she likes it. *yawn* I'm running on very little sleep, though, so I'm going to need lots of coffee to get through the day. I know, what else is new?

Oh,
laeti, you're so evil. I cannot stop looking at pictures of Blenheim Palace and Woodstock. I need a house in Woodstock. Need one like air. Tell me again why I can never win the lottery, because I just don't get it.

Dave just came in and told me that if I ever wanted to buy him a gift, he would not say no to this. I can't say that I blame him, really, and I'm not even a beer kind of gal.
I think I'm going to make myself an iced coffee now (yes, decaf, not that it'll stop me from staying up until 3AM, heaven knows). And I need to watch tonight's Bones. I'd be nice and wait until Dave comes down from putting Jimmy to bed, but I know he'll fall asleep up there and I'll end up waiting, then he'll come down and will be too tired to concentrate. So I'm going to be mean and watch it on my own. BECAUSE I CAN.
