An interesting tidbit I discovered today.

Today I was rewatching the season premiere of the new Survivor season. I thought the girl "Sugar" looked familiar to me, but I couldn't remember from where. I did some research and discovered that she was on Gilmore Girls, season 3. She played Jess' short-lived girlfriend, Shane, in four episodes. Her real name is Jessica Kiper.

Title: Loose Inhibitions

Disclaimer: I don't own any of the characters.
Summary: It started with a touch. She slowly edged closer to him, trailing her hand along the kitchen counter until their fingers were only mere millimetres apart. Despite how wrong it was, she didn't make excuses to leave. Set in season two. The first chapter is from the episode "Lost and Found".
Author's Note: Constructive criticism greatly appreciated, this being my first Gilmore Girl's fanfic and all. Thanks. :)

Loose Inhibitions

Chapter One:

Closer

"So, um, basically everything here is chicken. You’ve got garlic chicken, Kung Pao chicken, Szechuan Chicken, chicken in brown sauce, which looks and tastes remarkably like the Szechuan Chicken except it's got these red peppers in it and if you eat them, you die. Plate?"

She was rambling. She always did this when she was nervous. She would frenetically attempt to form rational sentences in her mind, but it always came out in a rather disjointed fashion. Her cheeks tinged pink as she gazed off to the side awaiting Jess’s entry, reminding herself that the simple act of inviting Jess in for lunch would surely smooth things over between her and her daughter, who had begged her to give him a chance.

No, she didn’t always feel completely at ease around him. Even now, his presence in her house caused her to fumble apprehensively with the hem of her sleeves. But from what Rory had told her about him, she had nothing to worry about. And that any insolence or disrespect that he had previously displayed were no indications of his true self.

He carefully dodged her glance as he washed his hands before slumping into the nearest dining room chair. He decided to begin the conversation in an attempt to ease some of the tension that hung in the air. It would also give him a chance to alter her view of him as monosyllabic, per Rory's request.

"So, when was the last time you had those rain gutters cleaned?"

"It's been a while." she replied, quite taken aback at his initiation of the conversation.

"Yeah, I found an I Like Ike bumper sticker."

"Is it really that bad?" she retorted, feeling oddly self-conscious at his discovery.

"It won't be by tomorrow."

"I like hearing that." She said, making her way over to the kitchen cupboards to gather the plates for lunch.

He quietly watched her reach for the cutlery in the top shelf, distracted by thoughts of Rory and the pressure placed on him to make a good impression. He wasn't good with small talk in general situations, let alone in his current predicament, being forced to spend time with a mother of a teenage girl who thought he was nothing but trouble.

These thoughts, however, came to an abrupt end when Lorelai began stretching for the elevated cutlery; her top riding up to reveal the pale flesh around her stomach, completely catching him off guard. He couldn’t help but notice that her jeans were low enough so that he could make out the top of her black silk underwear a few centimetres below her hipbone. Jess felt his mouth go dry, all acutely aware of the observation he had just made as she walked over to the refill the empty kettle. There was a subtle swivel in her hips as she moved, almost in a way that was too beguiling to be unintentional.

From there, his mind steered off in a more dangerous direction, soon becoming aware that he could see every curve of her well-rounded posterior that was displayed with detailed clarity through the tight fabric of the jeans, accentuated as she bent at the knee to retrieve a clean coffee cup from the bottom drawer. It was almost like an uncontrollable reflex; the sudden and palpable pretence of the small curve around her hips leaving him completely bewildered, becoming painfully aware of the sexuality she possessed despite it being such a small catalyst. He didn't mean to look, and he certainly didn't mean to continue looking. Of course, he had never been completely blind to her magnetism, but it was only now that there was little else to distract his mind.

She twirled her body around and approached the dining room table to join him, only to notice Jess's eyes fixedly trailing the movements of her body. Their gazes locked briefly before they both averted their eyes. His cheeks reddened slightly as he quickly composed himself, shifting apprehensively in his chair before darting his eyes to the table in front of him, Rory's voice still playing in his head.

"Here you go," she said, attempting to sound nonchalant as she handed Jess his plate.

The conversation continued, but it didn't last long. Jess continued to eat silently, keeping his head bowed in order to avoid her attention, prolonging the uncomfortable silence. After several moments of hesitation, his eyes rose up to meet her gaze. She became aware of a pink tinge creeping onto her cheeks as he looked at her, even though she was not entirely sure why. Suddenly, an indescribable and completely unprecedented feeling surged through her as her heart began to constrict in her chest, with thoughts of Jess's eyes travelling along her body entering her mind. She knew she didn't have to think anything of it. It was an innocent look, after all; nothing more than a demonstration of a teenage boy’s natural interest. But despite this, she couldn't help but find the acquisition of this young boy’s attention oddly exciting and enlivening. She felt as though she may have broken his tough, unreadable exterior, which, for whatever reason, pleased her. She only prayed that her internal emotion and discomposure were not overtly apparent, with feelings of panic beginning to set in as she wondered why she was having such feelings at all.

The unruffled and laid-back façade that she had been trying desperately to maintain was disrupted almost instantly at the sight of a widening smile lifting the corners of his mouth. She suspected his snigger was impish amusement over her reddening cheeks, inability to maintain eye contact, and jumpy response to his foot inadvertently brushing against hers beneath the table.

The sound of the kettle boiling jolted her back into full awareness. She quickly cleared her throat and swallowed, feeling guilty about the arousal that had been elicited moments ago from such an unimaginable source. She kept her back turned to him as she made her coffee in an attempt to distract her mind and regain her much desired composure. She stirred in a small amount of sugar closely, determined to avoid looking at him until her cheeks returned to their normal shade.

What the hell is wrong with you? Snap out of it!

"So, uh, Jess" she began, clearing her throat again. "How is school?"

“It’s still there.” He said, almost reverting back to the monosyllables.

She approached the table, watching nervously as he raised his head; his eyes widening.

"Are you on any teams or anything?" she said, drawing a breath before swallowing sharply.

"No, no..." he murmured, not quite steadily.

"Not a Jersey guy?" she replied, sensing a note of uneasiness creeping into his voice as she leaned towards him.

"No, no. Definitely not a jersey guy. Although the thought of throwing a ball at some jocks head in isn’t entirely unappealing."

His forwardness weakened her level-headedness as a small, nervous giggle escaped her mouth. Jess retorted with a smirk as he finished eating. She took a sip of her coffee to cover the instinctive flash of panic, inadvertently allowing her tongue to glide along her lips; her stomach churning sharply as a she prayed he didn't notice.

"So, I should probably go finish up." said Jess.

"Oh, okay, yeah, sure. Finish up...good." She replied, disjointedly.

Lorelai quickly gathered the empty containers of Chinese food in front of her; her giddiness fuelling the clean up process as she willed her heart beat to slow. She turned around to discover him helping her clean up, probably thinking that it would score him some brownie points. She smiled appreciatively.

"Oh, you didn’t have to do that."

"I don’t mind." He replied, composedly carrying his plate over to the sink.
His tone was now inexpressive; his face, unreadable. He seemed so cavalier, so at ease, which did little to calm her own nerves. She slowly approached the sink, stammering distractedly until she was beside him, only a few feet away.

"Thanks." she said softly, smiling courteously in an attempt to mask her giddiness.

Despite the inner turmoil she was experiencing at that moment, she didn’t move away and wait for him to leave; her mind failing to make sense of this strange but not entirely unwelcome sensation she felt, which escalated as the gap between them grew smaller and smaller. Slowly, she edged towards him, trailing her hand along the kitchen counter until their fingers were only mere millimetres apart. He turned his head to face her, waiting until she glanced up and caught his gaze.

Shit. She didn't mean to do that. She didn't mean to look into his eyes. Those dark brown eyes that she had never seen with such intensity before, paralysing every single muscle in her body as passion coursed through her veins and her mind reeled.

For a second, it looked like she was going to say something. She did want to say something, but no coherent sentences entered her mind. With a saucy tilt of her head, she slowly ran her fingers through her glossy brown hair, allowing a few locks to fall across her face whilst pulling the rest back to tumble almost artfully on her shoulders, one stray curl resting against the nape of her neck. He held her gaze as her breath hitched slightly. The way he looked at her, it was like he could see into her.

Her painstaking efforts to convince herself that the only reason she felt so nervous was because she thought he was rude or dangerous didn’t cut it anymore. Her heart began to palpitate a thousand beats a second and as he continued to match her gaze, staring into the bottomless depths of her electric eyes before looking along the length of her body. She could now feel his intoxicating breath coming out in little explosive bursts against her cheek, raising goose bumps all over her skin as she gasped softly at its warmth. She could hear his breathing sounding raspier, more laboured; the image of her black silk underwear replaying in his mind, burned into his memory. She then leaned towards the enraptured boy in front of her, overpowering exhilaration flushing through her again as her cheeks burned wildly and her knees grew weak, attempting to restrain the jubilation and excitement she felt over his fervent, roaming eyes, studying her body, and how sexy it made her feel.

For a fleeting moment, their two bodies were only mere millimetres apart; he could feel her breasts brushing gently against his chest. She was not entirely aware of Jess’s proximity until his hand brushed against her own; his thumb and middle finger circling her narrow wrist, while his other hand gently stroked her thigh, eliciting from her a startled jump, accompanied by a slight giggle. Her pulse jumped abruptly beneath his touch as he smirked slightly.

She quickly withdrew her hand when she realised full force what she was doing, running her now free hand through her hair again in an effort to recover her poise. It was only when Jess registered a delicate ache in his groin that it hit him also, causing his to stagger backwards.

"I should get back." He said, sweat evaporating from his palms and groin as he thrust his hands deeply into his pockets. "Thanks for lunch."

Lorelai simply stood, paralysed, unable to move or ever muster a reply. A sudden clatter at the door broke into her thoughts, her daughter’s bellows slowly jolting her back into reality. She paused for a second, collecting herself, before going to assist her daughter.
