it certainly has been a while and a lot of things have been happening. jed and i moved out of the house on columbia where we were living with steph and ken. we ended up in a nice little place right outside of hood river, but a lot of stupid things happened and since then we've decided to move to portland. i'm currently staying with my parents in salem until manee finds a house and moves out of the apartment he shares with alex. we're going to take his place. i'm really excited to be roomies with alex before he leaves for the philippines. plus we'll be close to kristina, shops, food, the laurelhurst, etc etc. and we'll be able to keep mona. oh yes, when we moved into the little house outside of the hood, we were allowed dogs, so jed and i found ourselves a lovely little friend via craigslist.

side note: living on an orchard seems really cool at first, but when they start spraying pesticides every two weeks things become a little less appealing.

anyhow, all in all things are fine. i'm pretty bummed that i had to quit my job, though. for some reason i really enjoy making coffee. there's a little cafe by the new place that serves stumptown. maybe i should apply there. one of my bosses from dog river just got a job as the stumptown wholesale accounts manager, and she told me that she'd help me out if i want to keep working in coffee. something to keep in mind if i can stand working another service job. someone suggested going back to school. i think it was my grandmmother. meh, not interested. but who knows. things are changing, certainly. perhaps some time soon i'll get the urge to educate myself a little more. right now i'm just thinking a lot about saving money. move-in costs blow, i have an emergency room bill that i keep forgetting about, the thailand trip has been postponed due to lack of funds, and eventually jed and i have to start saving for some sort of wedding. i have a funny feeling that the next year or two are going to be a little stressful...

i realized today that i read my friends page pretty much daily, but it's been a while since i posted. so here goes. trying to think of things that have happened in the past couple of months... i beat the new zelda, i got a sweet d50 for christmas, my bosses decided to give me a key and a raise, i guess other than that there's not too much else to speak of. life's pretty simple around here. everyone's bummed because it hasn't snowed in a while so the mountain isn't as great as it could be. my parents are about ready to move, and jed and ken have been looking around the area for land. alex decided to put off his move to the philippines for a little while. but now i'm getting into other people's news and not my own.

so, here i am, living in hood river now. overall it's okay. the weather is clear most days, the area is lovely, the people seem nice enough. i get to spend a lot of time with steph and that's really great. i just finished my second week at my new job, coffee slave at a little place called dog river coffee co. it's a nice job. good coworkers, nice customers, free coffee, and they're paying me more than soba did. only i don't know when i get paid. seems like recently most of my stress involves money things. i literally have only what's in my pocket (some loose change!). after blowing all my savings for jed in july, i moved with only my last paycheck to live off of, and promptly had to spend that all on our rent. gee, good thing he's broke, too. i don't even have enough to buy toilet paper, and we're on our last roll. yay! it's stupid and i'm tired of worrying about it, but really there's not much to distract me from it. on a lighter note, my friend kristina just moved to portland from virginia. she's driven out here the past couple of weekends and that's been super fun. it makes me happy that we still get along. and alex and sarah will come out to hood river next weekend. i will have to think of some entertaining things to do. tonight we are going to portland for cooper's birthday party. i am looking forward to playing cheap video games at the arcade, but i am not looking forward to being DD. my friends are stupid when they're drunk and i'm not. oh well. i will do my best to just enjoy seeing everyone again.

i am so incredibly tired. i've been waking up early these days. it's actually really nice to be up in the morning. last night's sleeping was bad, though. i used to do so well on hard surfaces. the princess bed has spoiled me. rotten. i stayed over in hood river last night, so today steph and i walked around, ate delicious things, and typed a resume which i promptly turned in to a coffee shop up the street. i'm not exactly sure if i'm a coffee shop type of person, but shit, a job's a job. for now, anyway. when i came back to salem for work today i put in my notice for the end of the month. we're going to move into steph and ken's house. their roommate is moving out on the 18th, so after that the place is ours! i'm excited. i know i should get to working as soon as i can, but it's really quite tempting to take a break and just enjoy the last days of summer. we're all wondering what winters are like over there. steph found a snow shovel in the back room at work the other day. ominous. i recently found out that kristina, my fourth grade best friend, is moving to portland mid-september. i am very excited. i haven't seen her in six years, but i'm sure we will have wonderful times. i can't wait to move. it's all that's been on my mind lately. moving moving moving...

okay, it's all figured out now. i'm just completely broke now after paying for everything. and jed had to turn in his temporary license to get an i.d. to start work yesterday, so now neither of us drives. i'm planning to get a license soon, though. yes, compromising my pedestrian beliefs in order to get from salem to hood river and back. plus it would be stupid to leave the car just parked after i paid 250 bucks to get it out of impound. if all goes as planned i'll be here working for another month while we both save up enough to pay move-in costs on an apartment. then it's moving time! i love moving time. being in a new place makes me happy. and there are fun things to do there. we've gotten a bit into tubing the past couple of weeks here, though. finally something fun, as long as you can find two people willing to drive. oh, and my eye stopped twitching.

jed got the job with google on friday. we were pretty excited about moving, looking for apartments and home stuff and all of that. then tonight i get a call from him telling me he wrecked his car and he's on his way to jail. when he was on his way to pick me up from a friend's house. because i changed my plans and went there instead of home. and my left eye has been twitching for two days now. fucking lame.

i've been forgetting about this thing lately. and i used to be so diligent about updating. still working the same old job. it's getting worse and worse these days. but jed just had his second interview with google, and both sides say it went well, so it's only a couple more weeks until we know for sure if we're moving. i'm really excited about the idea. and i like what i've experienced of hood river so far. now it's just a matter of finding an apartment that we can afford. what else?... i've been trying to get back to walking more. walking to work isn't so bad, except it gets really hot for the last mile or so. my legs feel good and tired. that's nice. jed is in palm springs (of all places...) until thursday. he went with his friends to disneyland today. i've never been. lame. it's pretty lonely here without his company, and there aren't too many other people that i care to spend time with. my bike is still in pieces, but thankfully i've finished painting it (for the most part), so now it's just reassembling it that i have to deal with. i'm sure there are other things to mention but i just can't fight the sleepiness much longer. goodnight.

well, all in all things are pretty much about the same. work is getting lame, still raining, etc etc. we might end up moving to hood river with steph and ken. that would be interesting. and expensive. i bought a banjo. it's fun. been watching a lot of movies and ending up disappointed. especially with the ones that got good reviews. are movie critics crazy these days? it's hard trying to find time to get down to corvallis to see the kids. maybe this weekend. ken is pressuring me to get a driver's license. i tell him i'm happy being a pedestrian/cyclist, but he won't lay off. i'm doing very well with saving money. some time i'll have to think of something to spend it on. i don't think we'll make it to thailand next winter. nothing else.

i was really wanting to post a really nice in-depth update but all i can think about right now is how much my lungs hurt. last night was our company christmas party. in bend. a normally two to three hour drive took us five. snow everywhere was awesome. for the first time in my life i was up to my knees (then thighs... then just falling everywhere...) in the stuff. our chains broke on our way over the pass so we stayed the night in a hotel. the air was so hot and dry, even with the fan blowing, that i hardly slept and "woke up" sick as shit. but it was worth it (mostly) because our gingerbread pagoda won and lyssa kicked everyone's asses in the talent show and we made louise proud.

i think things are going well. last week i helped steph get some stuff done for a gallery show she's got going on. opening night was stupid, but her installation is good. my first week working at soba is almost over. the job is nice, most of the people are, too. i'm excited to have a paycheck again. and tips are always a plus. lots of pressure from various people to move to portland. ken even offered to help me out with money to get settled up there. i'm just not sure if it's my bag. too many hipsters and yuppies. it would be nice to live in a town where there's actually shit going on, though...

pretty bored lately, but i've been good about getting out and walking around. getting lots of emails and phone calls from people i don't talk to much. that's nice. i have to get cracking on some things (i.e. steph's guest book, writing letters, sending packages). i applied at soba yesterday. liz is pretty sure she can get me the job. perhaps soon i will work and save money and be able to do things. that would rock. going to corvallis and possibly eugene this weekend. i'm excited to see my friends.

up in portland now helping steph and ken do wedding stuff. it would be nice to see people but we have a lot of work to do. i think we're all going crazy because of it. i'm procrastinating a bit on the current project, but i figure after unexpectedly having to clean up dog piss i deserve a break. got all of my neat photocopy transfer things finished last night, which is good. i got an invitation last night for a friend's wedding in north carolina. wish i could make it, but ah well. they'll understand. must wrangle the dogs...

i'm supposed to be taking a walk. i got wrapped up in stupid things. i found a 50mm canon camera lens in my room. i noticed that the aperture doesn't work quite right. in other news, steph gave me some pants. good, 'cause none of mine fit anymore. liz and crew have to find a new house because the neighbors are crazy, drunk, cop-calling psychos and because of them my sister could go to jail/ get evicted. the weather is good. we're getting geared up for steph and ken's ceremony. this weekend we're going to check out the falls. i think that's it for now.

not much to say, but it's a pretty boring friday night. jed and kenny went to a show, liz disappeared, nate has been gone for a couple of days. i'm the only one in the house, watching terrible movies, living the high life and eating soup. today kenny and i started taking apart the bike, shining the chrome, cleaning it up and repainting it. just a little project to fill some of my spare time. jed says next week he's going to but turbonegro tickets. awesome.

seems like summer is almost over and i've hardly done anything. oh well. i still would like to try riding my bike down to corvallis soon. maybe next week. kris and linda came back by on their way to portland. linda's leaving today to go home to ohio. last weekend a few of us went to three pools for some real swimming. the water was a ton lower than when we went with micah. there were tons of people but hardly anyone was swimming, so we practically had the water to ourselves. crystal clear! i jumped off of a tall rock. that was fun. then we all jumped off of short rocks. that was fun, too. jed got sucked down a waterfall and lost his shoes. i think when kris comes back from portland we're going to take him up there. it's totally worth dealing with the crowds.
the day at the coast was terrible, by the way. when we got there it was uncomfortably windy and cold for july. but it made for funny photos.

back in civilization. just got home the other day from just about a week in o'brien. it was pretty great. spent the first couple of days with mom and dad, pretty much just lounging. on sunday kris and linda showed up after hitching up highway 199 from crescent city (perfect phone call timing, what with the reception problems and all). we picked them up at the town store and brought them down to the cabin. stripped bark off of a tree that was cut down to make shingles. mom and dad left that night. monday through thursday was work work work. none of us had ever actually made a treehouse before, and we were working with minimal supplies, so things went pretty slowly. walked into town a couple of times, once for groceries and boxed wine and once for wading in the creek. dad came down thursday evening, so friday he let us use the car. we went to kerby to check out the burl gallery (really fucking amazing place) and then swimming outside of cave junction. fish galore in the illinois river. they congregate around your legs when you stand in the shallower areas. hurt my ass and scared myself half to death jumping off of the bridge with a bunch of little kids (clear water looks so much shallower than it actually is). that evening dad took me for a ride on the atv through the hills. at one point we lost the brakes going downhill on a logging road (cliffs? scary...) and i had to jump off at about 30mph. got a bunch of scrapes and a shitload of splinters, but he managed to stop just in time and was fine (more or less). my ankle is the worst, swollen a bit but i don't think it's infected. throughout the week we got to see lots of great wildlife. deer, wild turkeys, flying squirrels, foxes, a bunch of different lizards, really neat. so saturday we packed up the car, barely managed to get everything in, headed home to salem. nice drive through the woods taking the scenic route. yesterday jed and i took kris and linda on a short bike tour of salem and we checked out the art fair in bush park (not very impressive). too fucking hot outside, especially riding uphill on a bike, but it was fun. i've been getting a lot of exercise this past week. today we're going to drive to the coast for some relief from the heat.

this past weekend was my first ever camping trip. sadly, it wasn't really camping. or at least, not what i think of when i hear the word "camping." micah wanted all of his friends to go out for a couple of days together since his heart surgeries will put him out all summer. i knew there would be a lot of people, but i didn't expect the loud, obnoxious music or the rednecks with cocaine. even swimming in the lake was not what it should have been. jed and i enjoyed skipping rocks down at the creek. that's about it. we came home a day early. at least micah had a good time.
i'm sure there is more to say, but i am tired.

fuck ten hours on a plane.
one would think that due to jet-lag i would be asleep. no, in fact i woke up at 6am. but i did go to bed pretty early yesterday. it's good to be home, comfortable, but not as exciting. when i can't think of things to do here, i just sit around, but when i couldn't think of things to do there, it was enough to just walk around and look at things. i will miss it. ah well. made breakfast for mom and dad today since i was up. according to my dad, i don't cook bacon crispy enough and i don't make scrambled eggs right. but other than that it was nice. i think i'll nap later.
