"Habanera" + Muppets = *glee* LA LA LA LA!
I guess Novak, denied his Crossfire forum, where he used to harm all of America at once, has taken to simply harming America one pedestrian at a time.

Open full-time, permanent positions include Web Designer and Developer, Senior Perl Programmer, and Product Photographer. There's also a temporary 6-month customer service position open. All are located in the Fairfax office. (I don't work for ThinkGeek or, to the best of my knowledge, know anyone who does. Just thought some of y'all might be interested or know someone else who is.)

I currently have three extra lawn tickets for Thursday's performance of the comic oratorio "Not the Messiah" with Eric Idle, and I figured I'd offer them to my f-list before I put them up on Craig's List on Tuesday afternoon. For y'all, I'll give them to you for the $10 each that I paid for them (currently priced at $20 each) and eat the service charge. Leave a comment here or email me at my @lj email address if you want 'em, and we'll work out payment and ticket hand-off logistics.

Through July 27, Tor is giving away copies of all the ebooks and desktop images previously available to mailing list members. The list of books includes Old Man's War by John Scalzi, Farthing by Jo Walton, Four and Twenty Blackbirds by Cherie Priest, Crystal Rain by Tobias Buckell, and In the Garden of Iden by Kage Baker. Most everything is downloadable in PDF, HTML, and/or Mobi format.
That stuff reviewers said about Heath Ledger being really, REALLY good? It's all true.
QOTD:
Things accomplished today: survived DC Department of Vital Records, mostly unscathed; survived Costco, again mostly unscathed.
Things not yet accomplished: Seeing "Dark Knight". Looks like that's going to have to wait until after midnight, because everything up until then appears to be sold out. D'oh!
The fact that people are COMPLAINING about the WATCHMEN trailer proves that Internet=most efficient pure disgruntlement engine in history.

Thing one: the lineup for the 2008 National Book Festival's been announced. Salman Rushdie, Neil Gaiman, Philippa Gregory, Richard Price, Katherine Paterson, and a bunch of other folks.
Thing two: the "Simon's Cat" animations are hysterical because, well, "it's funny because it's true". There's a new one posted:

Man, just when you think William Sanders over at Helix couldn't possibly be a bigger tool: TADA!
[Edit: Looks like someone wised up and took the stories down entirely; both links are currently 404. What was there in both cases was a single sentence: "Story deleted at author's pantiwadulous request."]
No wait, there's more! Protip: When you find yourself in a hole, especially one which is now well over your head, the proper course of action is to stop digging. (Context for this one here)

Sushi wooden playset
Our new wooden sushi slicing set in a beautifully painted bento box is just too cool! Three types of sushi rice (nigiri, oshi, and maki) pieces come with shrimp, tuna, salmon roe, and egg pieces. Ginger, wasabi, and a dish of shoyu (soy sauce) are included, along with chopsticks, a play cleaver, and a menu.
Cute! (Found a mention of it in this month's "Paste" magazine. It's also at Amazon for ~$14.)

I do not care how cool the fireworks are, you do not stop and park in the travel lane of a two-lane road. At night. In the rain. Especially without putting your hazards on, or at least giving some sort of sign that your ass is going to be blocking traffic until the fireworks are done. Jerks.
That said, the Fairfax fireworks display itself was surprisingly impressive. Next year perhaps we should try and go over there a good bit earlier, not least because the 9:20 start time advertised in the paper was apparently really 9:10. I know that, as my dad used to argue, setting off fireworks is essentially taking cash and setting it on fire, but I still love 'em.
