Well today is a big day for the US women. On the day after the gold in beach volleyball...Soccer just started Gold medal game against Brazil.(fingers crossed) US basketball has advanced to the Gold medal game after beating Russia..but the bigged one so far.. Softball US vs Japan.
I woke up in time to see the top of the 7th inning..only to see Japan was up 2-1. I felt my heart sink as two errors later..it was 3-1. To the bottom of the seventh the US down to their last three outs. the 22 game Olympic winning streak was on the line for the team that had outscored its opponents 101-3 during these games. Gallindo starts off promising with a single and then the unthinkable..the next three batters go 1, 2, 3. All only taking one pitch to get the out. The Japanese pitcher has thrown 3 consecutive complete games..over 400 pitches in the last two days and still had enough to dominate the dominate team. It was unreal. The US womens trifecta will not happen this time. I had doubted the basketball team with the odd team configuration and the Soccer team had the devastating blow of losing Abby Wambach right before the games started, but softball was solid, just not meant to be.
Japan-Gold
US- Silver
Australia-Bronze
I am in shock..I have only cried once for a pro team and now this makes two. They are streaming the medal ceremony online..the tears are just flowing. I still can't believe its over. What a great team and great sport.
As much as it is a sad day for US women it is a heartbreaking day for Women's team sports! Ladies thank you all for the the fantastic games! You will be missed in 2012! The games won't be the same without you!
