I miss you!

Hey LJ,

I've been m.i.a., I know. And as much as I love you, I found a new blog medium. It's not that it's better, it's just that I'm lazy. And as you can see, this new blog lets me make dumb little blurbs because it's awfully daunting trying to make these epic posts all the time (as much as I love making epic posts).

I know I should have clued you in on my move earlier, but I just told you I was lazy, so can you really expect that much?

And it's not to say that the epic LJ post is extinct; perhaps it's just on a long hiatus.

So, with that, here's a small look at what I've been up to lately, and feel free to check out that other blog as much as you like.

It's been a blast.

Love,
trish

Thanks to VH1, you can now watch one of my favorites things from the 90s online. I keep hearing the theme song in my head with the bloop bloops from the bubbles.
http://www.vh1.com/video/play.jhtml?id=1575686&vid=189435&source=hp_today

It's worth watching because it totally (or "totes" as the bloggers are starting to say) educational.
See what I learned about Tina Turner?

big surprise.

that's a long time! don't bleach your hair unless by a trained professional!

I bet even Martha can't make her own wig! Tina is an inspiration.

I love the intertubes.

hello ljworld!

  • Dec. 12th, 2007 at 11:16 AM

It's been like, forever, no? And I won't lie, I've been busy. If you keep up with my flickr you've prolly seen a few pics of what I've been up to. But if not, here's a taste!

First, and maybe one of the most significant, my gorgeous friend Alison got hitched. This wasn't actually the first thing that happened, but the bachelorette party was:

The wedding was so sweet! Andy Langer officiated and did a bang up job. He interviewed the couple before the wedding and did a He Said/She Said of all their quotes. It was v. touching.

Here's a blurry Alison walking down the aisle with her parents.

In between those two Big Deal events was halloween. I, of course, had my annual pumpkin decorating night. I think that's one of my most favorite nights to host. Even though pumpkin guts are gross.

The end product makes all that gross worth it.

Jim Morrison by Julie (Jolly).

Katie's super eerie Edward Scissorhands.

Bryce veered from the norm and carved his car, which he had just broke out of shawshank. umm, I mean gotten out of the shop.

I decided to go Old School Scary with Jack Torrance from The Shining. V. creepy.

Jeff Frelack, a veteran of pumpkin night, went Nouveau Scary with Shawn of the Dead.

And my favorite pumpkin of the night is Chris' Jack the Pumpkin King. How befitting.

While on hiatus, I also played the banjo and ate smores!

Did a little Wurstfest.

Checked out the Ritz for a Singalong!

Visited Casey in Boston (which deserves a full post, I think. That trip was fun to the max, yo!)

Hosted my family's Thanksgiving(!!).

Went to Houston to see Kelly Clarkson (so good!).

Hung out with Julie's NEW PUPPY!!!

Put up a Christmas tree.

And gambled fake money at my company christmas party.

phew. I'm tuckered out. But I promise a real Boston post soon. I'm really just promising myself, though. I don't really have viewers or anything. Which means I'm just talking to myself. Still. Yikes. Lock me up in the crazyhouse IMMEDIATELY.

love,
trish.

early thanksgiving with the olives.

  • Oct. 29th, 2007 at 10:24 PM

Thanksgiving is really about just a few things:
family
friends
food
puppies.

and also fleeing from a tyranical monarchy or something.

But today's blog is about the traditional meaning of thanksgiving:
those first things I mentioned.

So, as you may know, Chris gets v. v. limited time off during the holidays. Unlike my job, where the month of December is more about bringing snacks to work for the entire marketing department EVERY DAY and not much else, Chris job is busy bee city during late Nov and Dec. And he doesn't get to go home for Thanksgiving. It sucks hard. Except don't worry, my sweet family takes Chris in (along with anyone else who can't get/doesn't want to go home) so he's not all alone, or anything.

But this year the Olives took matters into their own hands. And that means Early Thanksgiving in Austin! (which of course means TWO Thanksgivings this year! yay!)

And as any celebration with Chris and his family seems to include. . . Bocce Ball!

Travis is in med school, so he is used to this kind of serious pressure. Check out his face of intense concentration.

My teammate, Casey, takes a bit more of a facially relaxed approach.

I, however, employ the most well-known (read correct) form: with adult beverage in hand.

I guess it's something about living in the freezing midwest. Katie's got that same hardcore concentration.

And, since we are good, law-abiding folk, we must follow the rules of the game and have a referee.

He loves this job.

Of course Casey and I won. duh.

Gary was v. proud of Casey and offered him a congratulatory lap sit (which doubled as the trophy).

This Thanksgiving was in the country. Like almost Buda. Which means we had to get along with Nature. And Nature is sometimes a little scary.

I don't even know what's in that 2nd picture, but I hate it.

And of course, there was a precious baby there (other than Gary).

Finally it was time to put my camera down and eat. I have no pics of the amazing foods. Except for dessert!
And yes, that is my famous and delicious tiramisu (which was a hit, thankyouverymuch).

And of course, there was an afterparty, which consisted of falling asleep to a movie.

I love my puppy. I can't resist posting pics of him.

The next morning was my favorite thing of the week. Brunch!!

We went to our new favorite brunch spot, Woodland on South Congress. Seriously, this place is delicious TO THE MAX.

They have mimosas for two and you get a full bottle of champers and carafe of orange, apple or cranberry juice. We got apple. So Delicious. I can't even stand it.

See everyone tucking in? I love brunch so much. I look forward to it all week long. I'm not even exaggerating.

My brunch consisted of all the major food groups. Champers, bacon, latte, fruit.

Post brunch was super relaxation time. Chris has an awesome little yard just for this purpose!

Gary took this opportunity to work on his tan before winter comes along.

Gabi also loves hanging out. She also loves me.

Also, she loves silly hats.

You gotta have blue hair!

Can't wait for the next Thanksgiving!!!

a blog continued.

  • Oct. 8th, 2007 at 8:12 PM

I didn't intend on having a Part Two to this earlier blog. But I really enjoyed writing it. So here it is people, Non-Guilty Pleasures Part Two (and maybe re-emphasis on some of part one. with pictures!).

So, here we are again with the things about which I should be embarrassed, but am not. BECAUSE I AM SHAMELESS, PEOPLE!!! You can't mortify me!

1. Today, I think I'll start with my love for celebrity gossip. I keep In The Know by means of the blogosphere. Specifically fadedyouthblog.com and dlisted.com. Perez can suck it. I don't need bogeys all over the pics.

You see, because of the ebbing nature of my job, I get periods of NOTHING TO DO, which are terribly boring. And it helps 84% to be able to see adorable pics like this one:

AND, how else am I supposed to keep up with my favorite pint-sized fashionistas (read this blog's prequel!)?

(All pics courtesy of fadedyouthblog.com)

2. POSH SPICE. seriously. I love her.

I mean really, look how fab.

And don't say anything about how she doesn't smile, blah, blah, blah. Look! And wait for her Spanish!!

She's totally fun!! And funny!! She should one of my bffs!! I could totally replace space cadet Katie Holmes!! And WE (me and posh, of course) can be front row girls together and hang out with that kooky Karl Lagerfeld!!

I can totally work dark glasses, too, you know.

3. Martha (Stewart). If you know me at all, you know it's really just Martha. The Stewart is a given. I love her. I named my ipod Martha Stewart (see here).

I don't even really know what to say. I love Martha. She is v. funny. And I'm pretty sure she loves Amy Sedaris.

Why I like Martha.
Exhibit A.

Martha loves puppies! I love puppies! see? mfeo!

Exhibit B.

Martha=Baking! Baking is my favorite!! Duh!!

4. Ugly Betty.
That show is so delightfully campy. The set and costumes are AMAZING. It's totally 5 stars.

And it's based on Telenovela!

I want to walk around like Amanda, with one hand on hip at all times, all day.

So this list is pretty short, I know. But that just leaves room for Part Three! Aren't you excited??

the way we were

  • Sep. 30th, 2007 at 4:19 PM

last weekend some of my old favorites got together for a wee reunion.

I met Ian and Kevin in the 8th grade when our jr highs merged. They were total cowboys. Now they're just more like outdoorsy fellows.

aren't they strapping?

They both quit their jobs and spent the last 2.5 months camping in Alaska!! They lived in tents THE WHOLE TIME.
Kevin kept a pretty good blog with very pretty pictures of their trip.
http://thelivingkevin.blogspot.com/
The pictures are really amazing.

Also there was René. But back in the day we called him Renny. Who knows why. I also met René in the 8th grade. These three guys were from Kyle and I was from Buda.

Kyle boys

But also, Rizzo was there! He was in town to go to the Rice-UT game. Even though he only lives a couple hours away and his parents live here, he NEVER COMES TO AUSTIN. So it was so great to see him.

Rizzo and I Go Way Back. He is the nicest! Everyone loves Rizzo. See? Kevin loves Rizzo!

Also present, Garrett's mom.

It was totally Good Times.

Also, the Cutest Puppy Ever.

toys!

I'm pretty sure that I will never get completely caught up with this blog, so here's a quick catchup (ketchup).

Awesome vacation in Duck, NC (on the outer banks) with Chris and his fambly.

driving across the sound.

our beach house!

THE OCEAN!

buried Casey.

Deep sea fishing at 4 am.

the fishing boat.

DRIVING THE FISHING BOAT!!!!

An amazing feast we made (note I am already sitting down. I was ready to eat, as always).

we perfected beach hair.

The group! (note how Chris' family totally all looks alike, even when they look different.)

The guest of honor with her grandpa.

Julie calls us lovebirds in this pic.

That was just a tiny taste of that great vacay. Check my flickr set for the rest of the pics!!

Then, Chris' little brother Casey came to visit! Since Chris has a stupid work schedule and can never get time off, I was the awesome host. Although I didn't take v. many pics.
Gary was weary of Casey at first, but he came around when we went to watch the bats.

THEN, I went to visit Yoli in Brownsville. We went to Matamoros, too. It was my first time to Mexico.
This place was in America. It was called Ultra Lounge. I love that name.

Then we went to Mexico!

The next day, I picked a pirate's nose.

And went to the beach!

I made out with a delicious gelato,

and hung out with Yoli's animals!!

But my trip was brought to a sudden halt, because Chris, prolly because he missed me soooo much, hurled himself off a cliff into the (beautiful) Barton Creek Greenbelt, and BROKE HIS BACK.
Ok, so he was just cliff-jumping. It had nothing to do with me. Except I came home a day early only to find this sad guy.

Which leads me to the present.
With Chris in a backbrace every waking minute, he can't do all the awesome things we normally do to keep busy (mostly swimming at Barton Springs or something equally fun and active), so he decided to make his home a little more worth hanging out at.
It starts out with a new wireless controller. . . (note the backbrace)

. . . FOR A NEW XBOX 360!! (say that last part like Rod Roddy of the old Price is Right - A NEW CAARRR!)

I was set with the task of driving Chris all around town to run his errands, including said xbox, so he gave me a present.
Champers in a can with a straw!!!

Which is even FUNNER to drink when wearing that xbox headset-thingy so I feel like the pre-crazyhouse Britney Spears.

Chris had to steal my microphone away from me. Also, this pic totally posed. He's not playing anything.

Not to be outdone, I got a new gadget of my own. iPod Classic 80GB!!!

I've been waiting for an ipod that will fit ALL my music and not leave me in destitude all at the same time! Note my awesome Harry Potter band-aid protecting my scary, gross bicycle cut.

Chris, being the sweetest boyfriend EVER, got it engraved while ordering it with his awesome employee discount. I took this pic in photobooth, which is like taking a picture in a mirror, so go DaVinci on it to read.

Remember how ipods used to be firewire? Yeah, usb is waaayyyy slower. Uploading takes FOREVER. Waiting to play with it makes me have this face.

I named my ipod Martha Stewart!!

If none of these photos did it for you, try my flickr to see the rest!

Hellllooooo.
So soon, I'll be on the road to visit the lovely Yoli in Brownsville (6 HOUR DRIVE!) but I'm still trying to burn road trip CDs, so I've got a little time to tell you all about the Harry Potter party! I know it's archaic to be burning CDs for a road trip, but my ipod was stolen last December and I only want a new one that will fit ALL my 40GB itune library (I am not a music snob, just too indecisive to weed through and be picky about what is on my ipod). And even back in Dec there were rumors of a touch screen ipod, blah blah blah, so I'm still waiting for a mackdaddy ipod to buy. It's retarded, but whatevs. I'll be the cat's meow when I get it.

I'm not sure how much sense that made. I drank a bit of coffee this morning. I suck at caffeine without food.

Anyhoodle,

if you know me at all, you'll know I LOVE HARRY POTTER. Which is why I absolutely was required to attend Bookpeople's (the most awesome independent bookstore in the world) Harry Potter release party. Yes, I got my book just after midnight. Yes, it was worth it.

But, I am of a certain age, so it was def necessary to go for cocktails first. Hur-shiu and I CAN'T WAIT for the fate of Harry et al.

Chris loves HP v. much, but Josh was more just along for the ride.

I got HP glasses at the last HP release. Saving them was the best decision of my life.

Accio HP7!

Wingardium Leviosa!

Lumos!

Josh knows the charm to make glass DISAPPEAR.

Finally it's time to leave the bar (saloon). WE ARE SO EXCITED!!!

There we A LOT of people. And they weren't actually this blurry.

The party was pretty fun. I like the Diagon Alley part.

And the had FREE AMY'S ICE CREAM!!!

There was a Voldemort dunking booth where I saw the cutest Harry Potter EVER.

And after all this time, we finally got our books. Which Hur-shiu and I read and finished the next day (because we are so cool/big nerds).

The Crossings.

  • Aug. 21st, 2007 at 4:20 PM

The iphone made for a pretty stressful time for Chris. So I decided we needed a day of relaxation and SWIMMING. Jill has been telling me about the day pass at the Crossings Spa forever so I finally decided to try it out.

I SHOULD HAVE BEEN DOING THIS ALL SUMMER.

The view is so pretty and there's an INFINITY POOL.

Well, maybe not EXACTLY infinity.

It's so quiet and peaceful and super relaxing. Doesn't Chris look so calm?

They also have these super fancy delicious mimosas with mango, ginger and basil! So. Delicious.

Chris stuck with a delicious Stella.

The pass also includes a meal (my favorite). The miso soup was especially yummy.

Check out our beautiful lunchtime view!

I love eating.

After lunch, more pool time was def in order.

And some sangria. Duh.

After a hard day of relaxing we needed a good dinner, so we stopped by the County Line for delicious, but unpictured barbeque and a look at the turtles.

We are so relaxed!!

Jul. 28th, 2007

  • 3:24 PM

Since I leave for vacation tomorrow (yay!!), here's another round of "What I've been doing. by trish benford"

It's not v. exciting to read about and I don't have any good pics of it so, I'll just mention it in passing. We went to the opera in April with my parents to see the Barber of Seville. I really do like opera. This show is v. light; nobody dies. The tickets were way too expensive, however. I wrote Austin Lyric Opera an email ranting about how I hate hearing about the concern over the declining state of classical music when there is little to no effort to keep it accessible to the general public. One ticket to this opera was 10 times the price of a movie ticket. And the set was completely minimal. It wasn't a touring group. I just don't really see what that huge price paid for.

Anyway, regardless, I still enjoyed the show v. much. The opera here is much better than the joke called the Austin Symphony. Here's Chris and I waiting for the show to start. I told him to look like he loves me.

We've also been spending a lot of time in Houston for not so fun reasons. But, to get away from the depressing we went to get pedis. Now if you know me at all, you should know that pedicures are one of my FAVORITE things to do ever. The boys (Chris and his younger bro, Casey) even joined in the fun.

Strong enough for a man, but pH-balanced for a woman.

Here are the girls' pretty pedied feet.

I know it's a cheesy picture, but I don't care. I like symmetry.

Now we get to the BIG EVENT.
As you may know, someone decided to make a movie about the Transformers. More than meets the eye, and all that. Well, the most awesome movie theater in the WHOLE UNIVERSE (I'm v. serious about that) brought Robosaurus to commemorate the event. I'd never heard of this thing before, but now that I have, my life has changed. It's a giant robot that eats cars and shoots fire out its face. It's crazypants.

He found a car to eat.

FEEL MY WRATH LITTLE GIRLY CAR!!!

Chris was v. into Robosaurus.

That car doesn't have a chance.

And in case you're wondering what it looks like when Robosaurus goes for the kill. . .

I'm finally getting caught up. Next will be spa and the Harry Potter book release party!!!
It might be a while though. Starting tomorrow I'll be hanging out at the beach! I CAN'T WAIT.

on the reals.

  • Jul. 26th, 2007 at 12:07 PM

Work is v. v. slow so I decided that maybe it's time I make a real, honest-to-goodness (whatever that means) post. Which we will call "What I've been doing. by trish benford"

So, hopefully my memory will not fail me (which it ALWAYS does). This might even end up being a two-parter.

I think you'll agree, the best place to start any post is with Jesus.
The original plan for Easter was to go tubing, like last year. Easter is one of the few days when the mall CLOSES, which is the actual miracle (as opposed to the "HE IS RISEN" business). Since the mall is closed Chris and all the other kids from the Apple Store have a day off together. And not too many of those folks are religious, so it's a good day to hang out together.

HOWEVER, Jesus wasn't too pleased this easter and decided it would be cloudy and gross. AKA: no tubing.

But we are smart and resourceful. We broke out the grillpan and played bocce instead. Suck it, Jesus! We can have fun even in your wrath!

Jesus' (bocce) balls

As you can see, Bryce is a v. serious bocce baller (balla?).

We are actually all v. serious bocce players (playas?) and require proper equipment. Chris was sent on a supply run for beer, a vodka soda, and tape measure to ensure super-fair play.

Also, b/c we are such serious competitors we require a professional referee again, for the sake of fair play.

As you can see, my bocce form is perfect.

Chris is totally jealous of my mad bocce skillz.

Bryce asks Jesus for a little guidance. He ruined our tubing day, so he DOES owe us.

It just got too gross outside so we took the par-tay indoors for a little catchphrase and a movie.

Paul brings his bocce focus to The Departed.

I, too, was focused on the movie. Spiderman took this as a good time to try to steal my headband.

Opera, pedicures and Robosaurus next time!

The Everything Test

There are many different types of tests on the internet today. Personality tests, purity tests, stereotype tests, political tests. But now, there is one test to rule them all.

Traditionally, online tests would ask certain questions about your musical tastes or clothing for a stereotype, your experiences for a purity test, or deep questions for a personality test. We're turning that upside down - all the questions affect all the results, and we've got some innovative results too! Enjoy :-)

Personality
You are more emotional than logical, more concerned about self than concerned about others, more atheist than religious, more dependent than loner, more workaholic than lazy, more traditional than rebel, more artistic mind than engineering mind, more cynical than idealist, more leader than follower, and more introverted than extroverted.

As for specific personality traits, you are adventurious (100%), intellectual (74%), romantic (71%), artistic (67%).

Stereotypes
Prep85%
Emo Kid78%
Punk Rock73%

Life Experience
Sex52%
Substances57%
Travel47%

Politics
Your political views would best be described as Socialist, whom you agree with around 100% of the time.
  Socioeconomic
Your attitude toward life best associates you with Upper Middle Class. You make more than 80% of those who have taken this test, and 19% less than the U.S. average.

If your life was a movie, it would be rated R.
By the way, your hottness rank is 60%, hotter than 48% of other test takers.

  • Feb. 10th, 2007 at 2:22 PM

Stewie is sick. v. sick.
Stewie is my car. Yesterday was scary.
I left work around lunchtime to run an errand. My car was making a weird sound, so I pulled over in a Wendy's parking lot to check it out. I turned off my car and took the key out of the ignition. MY CAR WAS STILL MAKING SOUNDS LIKE IT WAS ON. I opened the hood (while panicking A LOT) and a belt was still going!! I was really freaking out now. I didn't know what to do. I called C and my dad. My dad told me to disconnect the battery, but I don't have tools so I couldn't. He said "I'll be right there."

A nice man headed to the Golden Corral (eww, right?) pulled over just as the belt slowed down and stopped and the engine started SMOKING LIKE CRAZY and said, "Need help?. . . You better get your stuff out of there and call 911!" So I did. There was so much smoke.

By the way, it was cold outside. and windy.

I called 911 and told them all the details then got in the nice man's car to wait. Or drive off v. quickly if my car exploded (which it didn't). We just sat there watching all the smoke. I was terrified times infinity. We only waited a couple minutes, and a fire truck showed up. The smoke was dying down. There wasn't much the firepeople could do; nothing was in flames. But they helped me calm down. The nice man went to his gross lunch after making sure I was going to be ok. Then my dad showed up. The firepeople waited long enough to make sure we were going to stay fire-free and they left.

So my dad and I called a tow truck. My car is sitting in shop. I don't know what's wrong with it. Or when I'll get it back. Or how much it will cost to fix it.

I had a dress rehearsal for my orchestra concert last night. I played so poorly. I was still all shaken up and tense. It was horrible. So, I bought tequila and had margaritas and watched movies with C and the puppies. Gary and Syd are becoming friends! Très awesome/precious.

my manicure is a mess.

  • Feb. 8th, 2007 at 9:13 PM

To add to my last entry, I am also shamelessly addicted to lonely15. I check it everyday for a new video. I highly recommend it for people who like a good old cult story.

It finally happened. I got a puppy. I am so happy. see how happy?

this is Gary!
isn't he precious?

us.
He's a chihuahua/mini pinscher mix. Brown, with a brown nose, green eyes and BLOND eyebrows.

He's still v. shy. He trembles around strangers.
Today, Gary and I woke up v. early and went to vet so he could get neutered and microchipped. It all went ok, but when we got home, he drank a little too much water and threw up on my jeans. But, since he's so little, it was like the size of a quarter. No big deal.

So, he went to work with me on Monday. He slept on my desk the whole day. see?

He's pretty much the size of my phone.
I'm in love!!!

He got an ecollar at the vet today, but when I put it on, he was terribly unhappy and kept accidentally ramming his little head into everything. So I took it off. I'll put it back on when we go to bed, though. I wish there were a more puppy-friendly option. Never fear! I'll take some ecollar pictures this week, I'm sure.

  • Jan. 22nd, 2007 at 10:02 PM

by trish benford.

I often hear people talking about their "guilty pleasures." Why be guilty? How about this. I will list things that I like that should prolly embarrass me, and you can feel better about liking some old mel gibson or tom cruise movie.

1. This is not only my number 1 in random list form, but also my #1 in life: I LOVE MOVIES WITH DANCING. THEY ARE MY FAVORITE. If you are netflix friends with me, you will know, I shamelessly netflix every single one like, the day they are available. I love Center Stage, with all its teen angst, tough ballet dancing rebel, and the dad from the oc. Dirty Dancing (esp. Dirty Dancing Havana Nights with all it's cubano music glory), Bring It On, which, I know, is technically not a dancing movie, IT HAS PEOPLE THROWING PEOPLE AND THAT'S EVEN BETTER! Maybe I should explain every single dancing movie; that takes up much time. Here's a short list: the great Singin' In the Rain (possibly the film which started my love), Take the Lead, You Got Served, Roll Bounce (70s roller skating is close enough), Stick It (gymnastics is also close enough), I could go on, but I don't think anyone other than me is this interested in the genre, so let's go to number 2.

2. Since I mentioned this just a minute ago, next, I will tell you, with no shame whatsoever, I love the OC. It's my main form of drama. And Seth is v. much like Chris. and I think that's cute.

3. Chick lit books about girls who like fashion. I don't care what you say. These books are fun.

4. The Olsen twins. esp. Ashley. I think she will be seen as somewhat of a fashion icon.

5. Singalongs at the drafthouse. Few things are as fun.

6. Nintendo. Seriously, I love my DS and I want a wii so bad. so v. bad.

7. I like the idea of getting made up and wearing expensive clothes and someone with a v. fancypants camera taking my picture.

8. Reading blogs of people I don't know. My friends don't really blog about their goings-on, so I read about the goings-on of strangers.

I don't know which is the worst of the list. I know that it's all pretty horrible. I like smarty-pants things, too. Like nonfiction, opera and paté. mmmm, paté. I love that v. much. That's a good way to end.
