| Mad Catz under Linux... help please? |
[May. 13th, 2008|06:39 pm] |
I just got my hands on one of those much-ballyhooed Mad Catz parallel link cables. (By the way, if you're looking for one, I found mine on Amazon.co.uk. The seller from whom I got mine only ships to the UK, mind you.) And I'm using a recent version of Ubuntu.
I tried gblnk first, and got an error about not having an old lib. Mind you, this project was last updated in 2002. I recompiled using the up-to-date version and was able to successfully download an image from my camera... if by "successful" you mean "I'm cool with horizontal lines all through my photo." I e-mailed the creator of this program, and am awaiting a response.
The other option I've heard suggested for Linuxy folks is ucon64. I tried the suggested command-line switches (among others), but was unable to successfully download an image. Well, at one point, the Game Boy showed that it was "Transferring" a photo, but the photo was nowhere to be found on my computer, much less the filename I chose to give it. I also tried using the "uf-Fox" GUI frontend for this, and had even less luck.
If anyone has had success downloading images from a GB camera under Linux using the Mad Catz cable, please tell me how you went about doing this. |

| usb to serial to parrallel to aggrivation! |
[Feb. 1st, 2008|10:23 pm] |
Heya guys. I thought i'd jump on the bandwagon of those trying to get the madcatz camera link cable to work with these newfangled computers. I'm using my laptop which has no serial or parrallel ports, only usb. So i've got my hands on a usb to serial, and then a serial to parrallel adapter, which i can then plug the camera link cable into. So I have the software up and running but I feel that by introducing both of the adapters into the mix i've gotten both myself and my computer into a right old confusion. The main problem is that instead of an lpt address, the usb to serial gives me a com address without any 0x----- kinda code. So I have no idea what to tell the madcatz software to look for. I don't actually think the serial to parrallel should cause problems however as this is how I used the cable back on my old win 98 desktop (which is sadly no longer with us). Can anyone out here offer some help or advice for a sad old fool who just wants to play with his beautiful, yet outdated, piece of equipment. Thanks for any help. bRay. |

| changing battery |
[Nov. 26th, 2007|02:24 am] |
man, Ain't I just full of luck and sunshine
I just got a whole new mac and attachments that allow me to get video feed on my computer, meaning I can now record game boy camera films. I got the machine working, and now my camera's battery died. Are there instructions on how to replace the cartridge battery? are there special batteries I must get for it? I'm kind of aggravated now as it's a bazillionth thing that's gone wrong since I got this computer (can't even get photoshop for it) any help would be appreciated |

Anyone know anywhere that sells gameboy cables individually? I've broken my (UK) mains cable and lost the cable to my printer. |

Sorry for the spam, but I figure one of you guys could get some use out of this. If it were not for the fact that a nice, working printer is hard to find, I would just hold on to it.

| Thanks from 8-Bit Operators.OUT TUES! Kraftwerk tribute on Astralwerks. |

Thanks from 8-Bit Operators.OUT TUES! Kraftwerk tribute on Astralwerks.
When the 8-Bit Operators project began to take form,it was as an internet driven concept starting roughly 2 years ago. It was set into concrete motion exclusively through artistic meetings and international relationships established via web communities and communications though emails and sound file transfers. Indeed, the trail of countless posts left behind by me (undoubtedly irritating to some) may remain as a loose documentation of the project's unfolding. The final line up of 8-Bit Operators ultimately consists of contacts made solely on Lo-bit-electro groups and communities such as the Yahoo LittlesoundDj and Nanoloop groups, and the Live Journal GameboyMusic and CircuitBending groups, Myspace and of course, the online Micromusic community. This truly was a grass roots global project from the start.
Now the concept is a reality, on TUESDAY, "8-Bit Operators - An 8-Bit Tribute to Kraftwerk"(performed on vintage video game systems) will be available everywhere you can buy music, and it's in no small way due to the ongoing support of online communities that spawned the three dozen musicians and artists who contributed to the completion of this work, a testament to the 21st century wave of chuptune/ bit-pop/ 8-bitpop microstars!
The 8-Bit Operators CD and Vinyl are already making a splash on college radio, arriving at #1 on the Canadian college electronic rpm charts...here's what reviewers are saying :
Wired Magazine: 8-Bit Operators named #2 in top Ten Cool things for Feb '07!
Remix Magazine: 4 out of 5 stars "Highly listenable with excellent arrangements and beats"
Future Music:"this compilation nails the robo-vibe of Kraftwerk's Computer World era with faithful melodic recreations of tunes spanning all but the earliest efforts by Herrs Hutter and Schneider"
