duly dooley's [Jul. 18th, 2008|08:18 pm]
I've been working on a lot of things, but somehow it's almost been a month since I posted anything! shoot. But I am here to make up for that (a bit).

This is the first year that I've lived somewhere other than the suburbs of Edmonton for the summer. I generally enjoy my summers there, but this one has been pretty amazing thus far -- for starters, there are several beautiful little swimming lakes within walking distance of my house. Coming from central Alberta, land of sludge-weed-leech-algae lakes that take forever to drive to, this is pretty much heaven. Add in a number of summer festivals (jazz, lebanese, shakespeare, spring garden road, upcoming street performers', etc), rehearsals for some theatre stuff we're doing at the end of the month, a herb garden that is not yet dead (a new personal record), and lots of time drawing on the porch in the sun, and I'd say we're having a pretty swell time.

Also, I've been drawing comics! Jordyn and Tim let Dorian and I make a little comic for a collection that they are putting out called "Tri"...I might post it here later on, but for now here is a drawing that I made for the book:

and here are some other random sketchbook things )

Oh yeah! And: I am performing with a synchronized bicycle team called The Ramblers at a 24-hour zine challenge this weekend! Exciting!

overcast garden burger [Jun. 23rd, 2008|12:38 pm]
This has slowly been in the works for a long time, but I finally got my new website up and running:

littlefoible.net

There's not too much new, but I did put up a whole bunch of comics that I haven't gotten online before. The last time I made a new design for my portfolio site was in 2003 in my first year of university. It's pretty embarassing that it's been this long, but at least it's done now! Let me know if there's anything that's not working or that looks screwy on your browser. Thanks to Phil for the lightbox tip and the people at the Dynamic Drive forums who helped me correct some of the wonky code!

toast with jam for frances [Jun. 16th, 2008|11:57 am]
I bought this travel set of watercolours a while ago and hadn't really used them yet, so I brought them out yesterday to break in my new sketchbook.

Just read this and it was gorgeous.

aged like a fine whine [Jun. 12th, 2008|03:49 pm]
Howabout some more old comics?

Here is a story I did for a minicomic anthology last summer entitled 'Expeditions and Adventures' that had a bunch of little comics from the Radar Friends and Sonar Gang within its pages. Mine was basically a brief summary of the true story of a manned dive in 1960 to the deepest part of the ocean! I hopefully will be making some new comics soon, but I figured for now an old one would be okay.

seven miles down; seven pages long )

I also want to mention that there are not many things more wonderful than monsters on bikes, especially if drawn by Heather E. Verbin. Since she recently got a scanner, such delights as these are available to everyone with internet access, so I highly suggest you check them out.

In other news, I have long forgotten how to do the lj-user link thing.

green tree green lamp [Jun. 4th, 2008|05:00 pm]
Here's a thing from a series that I've been sort of working my way around for a while...I might still work more on this. We shall see!

+ FOOD )

It is Bike Week in Halifax and I just got my bike tire fixed but am still on the lookout for a helmet. I went to a used book sale at Anchor Archive and got this amazing bizarre book called 'The Night the City Sang', which is a collection of a few long poems/stories by Peter Desbarats that are illustrated by Frank Newfeld (who also illustrated 'alligator pie', though this is much more stylistic and is in gold(!) and greyscale rather than full colour). The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous and I wish I could find some images online to show you, but I can't so perhaps I will take some photos when my camera batteries are recharged.

it's a three-fish babysit [May. 30th, 2008|10:35 am]
I did a lot of painting yesterday; here are some of the little doodles that resulted while I was waiting for the bigger stuff to dry:

I had always had it in my head that argyle was a hard pattern to draw and that my random attempts at it were far off from what argyle really was (I don't really know why) -- when I went and looked it up I realized that it was almost the same as I had thought it was. Hooray!

another one, same kinda noodlin' but with less argyle )

I am going to be posting here more often and that is a promise I make to you.

happy bochday! [May. 27th, 2008|10:38 am]
[Tags|, , , ]

23 years ago today, Jordyn F. Bochon made her grand entrance into this world. Since then she has performed some pretty amazing feats, created some astounding works of art, and been one heck of a pal. I wanted to draw her with some cats, as she is a fan of such furry creatures, but cats are my artistic achilles heel (and may have made tuna newn jealous anyway), so instead she gets to be surrounded by crisp crunchy green birthday apples.

Here's to you, Jordyn! May your day be wonderful and shine out on your brilliant future!

ketchup [May. 23rd, 2008|03:41 pm]
None of these are parcularly finished or streamlined works, really they're more along the lines of doodles that I have (in some cases) slapped some colour on, but considering how little I drew last year I've been feeling really good even just about being able to doodle a bunch. Here's a random collection of stuff from the past month (including a comic!)

and the rest )

Other random news: This week I broke and fixed our phone, lost my glasses in the ocean, unexpectedly found my glasses in the ocean, talked to some good people on the phone (once it was fixed), finally went to lifedrawing (it was awesome), got some kind of weird throat-hurting cold that hasn't gone away yet, and made fiddleheads twice. Also, my scanner really, really needs to be cleaned.

earl grey tea, steamed milk, and a shot of vanilla [May. 19th, 2008|10:09 am]
I hadn't realized that it had been so long since I've posted something! I've been drawing up a storm recently, and have a few things that I've had almost ready to post for months it seems, but as we've had lovely visitors staying in our little bachelor apartment almost continuously since May 3rd, I haven't really had time to get my stuff together and actually make a post.

So here is a little thing that I drew yesterday while sitting at a coffee shop drinking a very tasty london fog with my mom. I have more and will post it soon, I do declare!

Hope you've all been keeping well.

sitting in this chair for far far too long [Apr. 16th, 2008|04:57 pm]
I meant to go to lifedrawing last week but was too lazy in the end, so I drew other stuff to make up for it.

Not drawn from life (thank you google image seach), though the second one is. Also I drew some ducks that were attacking us the other day, but the drawings were pretty bad so I didn't bother scanning them.

living; life [Apr. 5th, 2008|12:21 am]
Recently I've mainly been drawing things from life....first I was at the farmer's market waiting around for Dorian to finish an audition for the Keith's Brewery tour and ended up pulling out my Pentel, then later that day I went down to Strange Adventures and tried out a sketchcrawl which was pretty neat even though we had to go to the mall's (mainly deserted) foodcourt since it was cold and snowy outside, and then today I was temping at a conference (running powerpoint) and I had lots of free time to draw the people listening to the presentation.

So, here's some of those drawings!

a bunch more )

I really want to make it more of a habit, try to get out and draw things a bunch. I might even go to a lifedrawing session on Wednesday -- I haven't been to one in over a year!
