What's your favorite thing to drink when it's cold outside?

A nice hot Tom & Jerry is just the thing when it's nippy out. Grab a cuppa, settle down with a good book or some work and relax. Mmm ... delightful.

English intrigue fascinates me. I've always been drawn to the sophistication, pomp and fanfare of this bygone era. If I could get one simple peek (and by this I mean a jaunt back through time) for just one moment in time, I would probably fall in love with it all. The people, the customs and traditions, and most interestingly enough the rules and regulations. If you knew me, you'd probably scoff upon hearing such a thing coming out of my mouth. But there it is. I've said it. Rules and regulations might not be so bad. In another time and another place. One that is far removed from the independent person I insist on being.

Sudoku is absolutely addictive! Ever since learning, I always carry a book with me wherever I go – I have so many many many! I also have a pc version I play all the time and I really want a table-top one as well. Even one of my sons love to play since I taught him how :)

I was totally thrilled when I finally made it to the spa! I had some facial treatments, a body rub, my hair beautified and my toesies enveloped in hot wax! It was everything I hoped it would be and I can’t wait to go again!

Convenient On The Spot Education

funyuns
Kids are full of curiosity. Mine are no different. Take for example today. On a quick trip to a local convenience store on the way home from an after school club activity, D. and I were discussing different things as usual. Today we were discussing the solar system and he was telling me all about the projects everyone presented for class today. I was very excited to listen as he worked really hard on his, with the help of his dad and his oldest brother. So, he was telling me about them and he had my digital camera sitting in his lap, very excited to show me all the pictures he took today. Being a very proud parent and no different than any other, I'll upload them this week sometime, as he will be taking the camera back to school tomorrow for the rest of the projects being presented.

So yeah, we were in a chatty mood. Finally we get to the store and I tell him he can get him and his brothers a beef jerky and a soda and he better be snappy about it because if it ain't on the counter when I'm ready to pay, it ain't going home with us. That boy can dawdle at the store! I get my funyuns and tell the nice cashier to ring me up a carton of cigarettes and then I holler at him that the bank is leaving town. Checking out. Move it already, kid. He gets up to the counter, piles all of his loot on it and then sees the miscellaneous items stashed all over the counter by the register. Typical of every convenience store known to man. He sees this little box with some cylindrical tubes in it and asks me what they are. I then proceed to tell him that they are ginseng shooters. He, of course, says what is that? I'm racking my brain for the word I know is right there. Of course when you need to know it, it's gone. But I was already talking. And thinking at the same time. Not a good combination in situations when kids are requesting information and they want the answers yesterday. What comes out of my mouth had that boy snickering like he was a world weary man who'd been there, done that. What came out of my mouth was, 'it's weed'. Then, trying to correct my blunder (while still trying to find that word tha t I know, but don't know), I say, 'it's grass'. Oh my. Can we please get the lady a thesauras, folks. There were several people waiting behind me patiently while they processed my credit card. I was blushing furiously and they were all twittering at my like they'd been there, done that. So I start mumbling to myself, hoping I'd get it together and get the kid the correct word I was trying to reference. And finally, like the shot that blasts through the air at the beginning of a race, it came to me. I blurted out, 'it's an organic herb. And don't ask me what organic means right at this precise second'. Grabbed my stuff, gathered my kid to my side and scrambled to make tracks, all the while hoping this would be a selective memory moment for him. I certainly don't need his teacher calling me tomorrow and asking me my kid knows where to buy some grass. At the least, it would be a tricky explanation.

Pimp-Slap me?

Okay, so after losing our first game of the season this morning (football), we're in the car on the way home. I decide to stop off at a local diner and get us all one of their yummy pink lemonade/icee's. I order, I pay, we sit there waiting at the drive-through window. And D. starts beating me. Playing around, but boy does that kid have a mean slap! We're having our fun. He beats me, I beat him. We're square. We get our order and I have to drive home. I say not to mess with me because I could wreck and we could die. He tells me not to mess with him. I say no, it doesn't work that way. I beat him, he dies. It's better that he dies, rather than all of us. If I wreck. :D He laughs and says 'you best leave me alone, woman or else I'll put baby powder on my hands and pimp-slap you'. WTH. He explained what it meant and I laughed my butt off. Smarty pants.

I'm so stoked. I installed a new browser today called Flock and it rocks. I'm still playing with it and I'm posting this entry from within it's blissful confines.

D. played his first football game today. We're the Rams! We played the Bears and beat them 14-6! Go Rams!

Had to restore my desktop pc yesterday back to an earlier date. It was having major issues every time I tried to shut it down. It is doing great now. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I've uploaded lots of new pictures of the Renton family reunion in July to my Ringo account, so if you're a family member, email me if you're not on my friends list and I'll add you! If you're a family member from the Pixler side, I'll be posting those photos from the reunion in June in the next couple of days. Again, if you're not on my friends list at Ringo, email me and I'll getcha added!

I've also been very busy updating my flickr photos. Finally got all of the ones from Disney World in March added and I've been adding several a day from my digital camera cds. So stop by and take a peek. If you're family, but you're not one of my contacts there at flickr, you will need to be added to be able to see shots of the boys. I've had to set privacy levels on photos including them. Sorry, but it was done out of necessity (same with Ringo!).

Chris and the boys are at a car show here in town today. Being boys. Looking at toys. Having fun. I would've gone, but it was too freakin' hot at the football game before 10am this morning. I had to come home to the a.c. Will be updating my other blogs today.

Several new shows on tv this fall I'm looking forward to seeing. I've watched the first 2 eps of Men in Trees and it is looking to be a great show.

Read my take on it here: New Series - Men in Trees and Men in Trees

Other shows I've got set up in my DVR and I'm looking forward to watching include:
Jericho on CBS // Heroes on NBC // Standoff on FOX (2 eps in my DVR now) // Brothers & Sisters on ABC // Six Degrees on ABC // Smith on CBS

Disney World
/

Disney World was all that we imagined it to be. And then some. We crammed all 4 parks into 5 days of non-stop top of the line entertainment. We even made it over to Sea World and ended the last day of our trip at the Kennedy Space Center. Sore feet and tired bodies kept up the pace as we packed as much fun into our little vacation as we could. We call it little because we would definitely love to take this same vacation again, but stay longer! I recommend to anyone who has not been to put this destination at the top of the list. Not to be missed.

Well, we're home and I'm pooped. Went to see When a Stranger Calls last night and it was really quite good. I was a bit leery about how good it was going to be as I've seen the original as well as When a Stranger Calls Back with Carol Kane starring as Jill. They were terrific. But the new one wasn't bad at all. Worth my money. Well, sort of. The movie was worth it. It's the people at the movie that made it not worth our money to sit through their crap. There was a group of people and they just could not keep their mouths shut. They were talking a mile a minute, second-guessing the movie, hollering out stupid stuff and outright being entirely too obnoxious. They were cussing quite a bit, which was upsetting in that big of a crowd of people trying to watch a movie, but nobody said anything. I'm not known for keeping my mouth shut when the situation calls for it (or not) and I was rarin to stand up and tell them to shut their pie holes up or leave and rent a movie to yell at at home. But no, I kept my piece to myself. Then they had to go and let their cussing get entirely crude (the *F* word) and Chris turns around and says 'Hey lady, we have kids here watching this movie and they don't need to hear that crap". She then tells Chris "You need to hold the line, man. Calm down, sir". He told her "Then shut the hell up". It was too funny. They were still obnoxious after that, but not the terrible cursing as before. After the movie was over, I told Chris I was ready to jump out of my seat and choke them for ruining the movie for everyone. The people behind us said the best part of the whole night was the argument between that woman and Chris. He said he was glad someone said something and wished someone had shut her up sooner. That was funny. Now, I know if I would have gotten up and choked her, everyone in that theatre would have testified for me in court as to justified homicide. =D

I found a scrapbooking store in Cape that I like. Spent a hundred bucks there and also got information on the crops they hold. Hopefully, I'll be able to go to some of them soon. That would be fun.

On the way home, we ate lunch at Lambert's in Sikeston, 'home of the Throwed Roll'. I'm not a big fan of the place, but I can say their rolls are frickin awesome! As usual, half my meal came home in a doggie bag. I can never finish my plate at Lambert's. My whole family loves eating there. I go along because they'll disown me if I don't. How sad is that?

Now that I'm home, I'll have to put some effort into an idea for my blog design. I also need to get a new front page up for our family geneology/reunion mailing list. It's toast. Got a couple of invites to send out as well.

For now, I'm bone tired. Gonna check my email and check in on my 360 blog and then relax for the evening.

The spa is out this weekend! I'm gonna have to do it in about 3 weeks as that's how far in advance they are booked solid. So, we're still going to Cape and we're gonna go out to dinner and catch a movie. It'll still be a fun weekend. Just no spa. :(

bored with it all

I am so bored with my website. I really would like to do a whole new layout. I haven't created a new one in about 2 1/2 years, so I'm stumped with what I want to do. Plus, there are so many new techniques out since I've tinkered with it. The last couple of layouts were made by other people with the exception of my Smiling one, which was pretty basic. I miss messing with my websites. I've got a hankerin to get back into it, but it seems so overwhelming for some silly reason. I'll have to toy with the idea some over the weekend. If I have time, that is. We are going to Cape Girardeau this weekend so it will be movie night tomorrow and the spa on Saturday (hopefully). I've never been to the spa before and I'm not sure what kind of notice you have to give to get an appointment, but I'm going to call first thing in the morning to find out. It'll be so fun!

ME life daily
Insomniac on Board

I'm a walking zombie today. I couldn't sleep last night, so I've been up for over 36 hours and I'm really dragging here. Had to wash C's gym shorts and run them to school for him in time for 3rd period gym, so no chance of sleep there. Then I had to stay up so I could take Miss Maggie and Oliver to the vet at 2pm. Maggie got all of her puppy shots and she's good for the next year, except for heartworm preventative. Unfortunately, poor poor Oliver had to have a sleepover with them tonight. He's been cat-fighting around the hood lately and he's looking pretty haggard. And he's getting tons of ear mites and hates for us to mess with him for treatment. So they'll take care of all of his cuts and bruises and the mites. yuck. And on a very sad and disturbing note, I must give the worst news yet. He is getting his goodies trimmed. No more candy in the candy machine. The water cooler is going dry. The cookie has crumbled for poor Mr. O. Yup, he's getting neutered today. It's a very sad day indeed.

It's the Humane Way

Now, we're off for some fun. The circus has come to town and that will round out my day. Hopefully I can stay awake. :D

...oh yeah / one last side note / The blinkies were made by me. If you'd like to use them, you may do so after you comment on this entry and lemme know you're using it/them. Enjoy...

Grey's Anatomy / "Break on Through"

Last night's episode of Grey's Anatomy was superb. Wonderfully well written, it encompassed new facets of the shows primary characters. I enjoy all the drama GA has to offer as well as the off-the-cuff humour it brings to prime time television. It includes a diverse mix of key players that are evolving more and more as the second season is zipping along at a pace that keeps me coming back for more. This is definitely one show I've been watching from the beginning and I haven't missed one yet. Will certainly be buying the series on DVD to watch over and over again at whim.

I also wrote my very first review of an episode (last night's) this morning over at tv.com. You can take a peek at the review / spoiler I wrote here.
