*sticky* Resources for art

Made this into a way-future-dated post so that it stays at the top for those who are interested in resources, and put it behind an lj-cut for those who aren't. :)

More may join this list as I run across them.

And what they don't tell you about the automatic name change is that in lists like this, where you've alphabetized, you're going to have to mess around with things. Grumblegrumble...

Since it seems there are getting to be quite a few of these, I've moved them out of my userinfo and put them on a sticky so I can just go back and update as I go, without having to subject folks who look at the userinfo to the scroll-of-doom...

New TV Stuffs

Spoilers Grrrr
As pretty much anyone on this continent knows (and many on others) the new TV season is starting up. People are going to be squeeing about shows, and I'm all for that. But PLEASE remember, the LJ-cut is your friend :D

Please, please cut spoilers for new episodes of stuff, so that those of us who are trying really, really hard to avoid reading things don't run into landmines on our own flists. Thank you -- it's appreciated!!

That being said, UNDER AN HOUR TO GO OMG I CAN'T FOCUS EEEEEEEK!!!

Spoilers Grrrr
Yes, I am an Olympics fan. An Olympics geek. Crazed. Something like that.

I also work until 6:30pm, and sometimes have errands to run after work.

That being said, there are times when I won't get home before certain results have been aired.

PLEASE exercise common sense and spoiler protect if you're squeeing about results -- considering time-zone differences and all, it's going to be SO hard to avoid being spoiled as it is. I'd really appreciate it if my friends list isn't a mine-field of Olympic spoilers...

Granted, stuff will probably have me so far behind that I won't even be reading, but Swimming, Gymnastics, T&F, and Equestrian are my biggies. If you're squeeing about those, LJ-cut is your friend! :D

Thanks for your consideration!!

We'd really appreciate more votes in the Christian Coulson challenge over here -- unfortunately because LJ was being a pest when I posted the voting, you have to vote in comments. All comments are screened, though, so no one will see 'em.

Thanks!!

Atlantis - Rage
Okay. I'm behind on the CC icons post. I'd done a bunch of them while I couldn't do any fucking work after the computer refresh at work, and then stupidly forgot to copy them to my pc card. Argh!!!!

Other than that, I've been dealing with idiots as far as the computer replacement goes (I'd really like to be able to use my fucking scanner, now, considering it's the only way to e-mail acceptance letters to applicants now...). But yay, I'm off on Monday, so who needs to make sure everything works right before I poke them directly...

Meanwhile we've got all kinds of crazy shit to document for a file inventory, which poor [info]leviathanmuse has to figure out, and other fun stuff related to the fact that we're OFF on Monday.

Bah. Sushi dinner on Monday, and they get whatever we give them on Tuesday. Idiots...

If you're not freaked out by nekkid boy bits, we could do with some more votes over here -- a few ties at the moment and I'd like to wrap up the current challenge... Thanks in advance!

Heroes trading cards, volume 2

  • Jul. 10th, 2008 at 11:50 PM
Heroes - Stupid
Yay -- I got an Ando sketch card! Woo!

I also got a heap of cards that look so bad I am offended by how they look. Seriously, there are a bunch of cards (and ALL their dupes) that are covered with white splotches. The worst two? The portrait cards for Claire and Maya. I don't have to spell it out, do I? They look GROSS and I am pissed. And I don't even LIKE Maya...

Did anyone else get bukakke defect-riddled #s 1, 8, 19, 20, 45, 62, 55, 74, 75 or 78? If they're all bad, then I'm not going to waste the postage requesting replacements, but if there are actually good ones out there, I will...

And now I get ready for bed, because I've been dizzy all day and now my head dislikes me. >.

Userinfo coding frustration

Stark Raving Mad
Okay, I'm poking at Peter's userinfo layout again, and it's driving me crazy. Here's the page: http://youngerpetrelli.livejournal.com/profile

For some reason, I can NOT get that big honking white space out of the table between the image and the first blue line with his name in it. I've set up the table code EXACTLY the same way as another one, and THAT one doesn't have the huge white space in it. WTF am I doing WRONG?!

(Yes, this is the same problem I asked about a while back. I'd given up on it for a while, now I'm poking at it again.)

So. When we re-signed the lease, they wanted to 'do something' for us, and since we told them cleaning the carpets would be too much work (honestly, moving all our stuff? No freaking way!), we asked them to fix all the plumbing shit that's been pending for decades (literally -- the sinks in the kitchen and the half-bath were over 20 years old, since we've been here 20 years and they were here when we got here...).

So, they inspected, and left us a note that they'd notify us when they were coming to do the repairs.

So, we waited.

And waited.

And the four foot water main broke in the area and fucked up our water, so we figured they had a reason for delaying...

And we waited.

And suddenly, yesterday, we came home to a new sink in the kitchen and the half-bath, with stuff moved all over the place. Because, of COURSE, we had no idea they were going to show up!

Put the kitchen back together, moved the shirts drying on the shower rod out of the way so they could get to the shower fixtures today if they came back.

Except that today, they also snaked or whatever my bathroom sink, so when we came home, the ENTIRE contents of the cabinet under the sink were on the counter and around. And the shower head is... in the trash.

I stuck the note the rental office person left us up on the remnant of the shower head with a 'I'm sorry we didn't move things, but we never got the notification mentioned above' note on it.

Probably, tomorrow they're going to be finishing the bathtub stuff, and possibly fixing the toilet in the half-bath.

Hopefully.

'Cause I'd really, really like to be able to take a shower this weekend.

Really.

Weather and that kind of fun

  • Jun. 5th, 2008 at 2:34 AM
Coffee is Brain Food
So. I'm in the middle of the busiest time of year at work, with a STACK of files I have to put together and get on orders by mid-June... I'd been ignoring the constant weather alert popups from ForecastFox because every time I checked them they were flood warnings. Yes. It rained. It was going to rain some more. After the 4th wettest May on record, of course there was going to be flooding.

Well, colour me surprised when [info]strangemuses IMed me to warn me we had a Tornado Watch until 8pm. Yeep!

I checked the radar and saw the nasty storms heading for our area from West Virginia, and sent out a warning to everyone in the office since they probably also weren't keeping an eye on things, and then I went back to working.

About 3pm, the storms got to our area, and the lights started blinking. Of course, because our office can't get any replacement UPS and mine is toast, my computer went off right in the middle of a huge e-mail I was typing...

The lights and power kept blipping for about 5 minutes, and then WHAM. Off. *sigh* No power in the building -- other than the emergency lights, that is. Which also meant no getting in once you left, because the door locks are card-swipe things, and with no power, no card reader. This also meant no access to the bathrooms...

We stayed for a little bit, because the last time this happened they forced us to stay 2 hours before dismissal. This time, they used their brains and let us go, but I still had to try to get today's orders closed since I had a guy who was effective today, and we can't have him on tomorrow's orders with today's date -- not quite legal to back-date these things. One of the officers has a snazzy skinny Mac with pretty good wireless reception so we tried to use that, but he couldn't get a connection. *sigh*

I called the contractors to find out if there was a way to close tomorrow with today's date, and the guy I talked to wasn't sure. So I figured if we had power back home I'd do it from there, at least.

And then we headed home.

It took about an hour to get back because lights were out ALL OVER. There's a HUGE intersection that's I think 2 6-lane roads (although I think one of them is actually 7 or 8 lanes including turn lanes at that point...) that was the ONLY intersection that had cops directing traffic. Yay? (Good thing they were there -- I can imagine the mess it would have been otherwise!) There are a number of trees down, luckily none IN the road in this area this time...

But luckily, when we got home the lights were on and the AC was working. I logged on and got the work stuff finished, sent an e-mail to some of my coworkers to tell them what happened, and then we looked at the weather and found out the next round was coming. We got offline and figured we'd take a nap because we were still wiped from yesterday, and as we went off to bed the thunder was rumbling around and around and just not stopping at all!

I'm a little worried about work tomorrow, because apparently all the schools in the county are closed because they don't have power. OPM hasn't shut the government, because obviously some places do have power and some don't. BUT, since our building was toast today, I'm not sure it'll be back tomorrow. I'll have to call someone up when we get up to find out, I guess. If it's not, and I miss another day, I'm going to HAVE to be in there on the weekend, because seriously, 20 files to get done in 8 days? EEEEK!!! (Especially as with dual processing, that's actually 40 orders I have to get done...)

Oh yeah -- and that's if it didn't fry my computer this time...

And still, we're far better off than the folks further south, where the Tornado Watch turned into a Tornado Warning, and they had MUCH worse damage... Yikes!

Venture Brothers T-Shirts!

Yep, for my birthday, the new season of Venture Brothers started on Cartoon Network (which Comcast gave us back a week or so after taking away -- wonder if they met with some resistance...). They've started a T-shirt of the week club. I'm not subscribing for the whole thing (although if I end up wanting one of each I'm going to kick myself later...), but I had to get the first one, because it's the logo for the Guild of Calamitous Intent, in gold, on a black shirt! Hee!
