Tue, Sep. 23rd, 2008, 07:43 am Boxes, boxes, boxes
They gave us all our own notepad and pen in court yesterday. Such perks! :-)
Once the excitement of the stationery gifts wore I off, I noticed the boxes. And boxes. And boxes. I'm not sure my brain can absorb all that. Eek.
The juror assigned the seat next to mine is a heavy smoker. Reek. Mon, Sep. 22nd, 2008, 10:36 pm On a break
squaredancing and I are "on a break." We're not officially over, but we're free to go out with other people right now. I'm sure things will work out in the end. Thank goodness that double_ohsteven is an understanding bf! Thu, Sep. 18th, 2008, 06:34 pm In Jury
We stayed 20 minutes later than usual tonight. The judge likes to dismiss jurors at 4:30pm, but they were ready to pick the jury, so we stayed. (Jurors don't come in on Fridays for this trial.) I'm in the jury box, and I'll be sworn in on Monday morning. It's bound to be a boring trial, but I'm okay with that for now.
It pisses off my boss. I'm okay with that. Thu, Sep. 18th, 2008, 09:48 am Full week, stress part gone
This week has been full. ( Read more... )Wed, Sep. 17th, 2008, 11:12 pm More jury duty today
I was finally called up to the juror box today. I was questioned by counsel for both sides, and I haven't been dismissed yet. Guess there's a good chance I'll still be there for the trial. I'll probably find out tomorrow.
More of the jury selection tomorrow. They've questioned almost everyone, and they sent lots of people home. There are only 4 people from the original jury pool (100 or so?) who haven't been questioned. Those 4 will get their chance tomorrow to fill vacant seats in the juror box. The original juror pool wasn't big enough, so they're recruiting additional jurors tomorrow. That should slow down the process a bit.
The judge has been pretty good at granting breaks and speeding things up when possible. Still, the trial is gonna drag out for a long time. I'm gonna need to find a good book for the down time. Wed, Sep. 17th, 2008, 05:57 pm photo of the now
Wed, Sep. 17th, 2008, 05:49 pm Married yet again
During jury lunch recess, I ran into newly-nuptialed rootbeer1 and qbear who were leaving City Hall. I crashed their reception at Chevy's. (I was at Chevy's last time they showed up after getting married!) I got to meet rootbeer1's siblings, and I also got to meet the visiting timbearuk & Steve. ( A couple more pics behind cut )Tue, Sep. 16th, 2008, 03:27 pm Adding insult to injury
I went in for Jury Duty last Thursday. I was in the first round of people called to a jury pool. We went to the courtroom and waited. Took a break. Waited. Took a break. Waited.
The judge finally arrived and went through details about the length of the trial (4-6 weeks or something). I was selected to fill out a questionnaire and return this week. (Not on Monday. Good thing, as I had CPR training on Monday morning.)
I was not picked to be released today, so it's back in tomorrow for more of the jury selection process. I'm afraid that the trial is going to be even more boring that the jury selection process.
If I do make it to the jury box, the jury duty continues through the date we're getting married in October. Luckily, they don't have jury duty for this trial on Fridays (we're getting married on Friday, 10/10). Our marriage license appointment is the day before, but it's at 1pm, during the trial lunch hour, so that would work out okay.
They're supposed to finish the jury selection by Thursday. Sat, Sep. 13th, 2008, 03:18 pm LJ picnic
At last count, there were 44 people at today's LJ picnic. Thanks to dhbearguy for helping to take names. Pics to follow. ( Attendees listed behind cut )Sat, Sep. 13th, 2008, 07:08 am LJ Picnic today
Darn. I had an idea to make jello shots for today's picnic, but that idea escaped until just now. I'll have to save that idea for another picnic.
It's cloudy now, but it's supposed to be decent weather for the picnic. Bring your camera.
See you at 12pm! Tue, Sep. 9th, 2008, 04:13 pm Jurisprudence

What light? I can't even find the tunnel. Carbon Leaf: What About Everything?Wed, Sep. 3rd, 2008, 02:27 pm Hold, please
Why do nurses insist on putting a caller "on hold" by setting the receiver down and not using the HOLD button? I guess they are too stupid to realize that it is unprofessional, and it allows callers to hear discussions about other patients. Wed, Sep. 3rd, 2008, 05:16 am Uninstalled Chrome
I got home from work yesterday and installed Chrome. It imported some of my Firefox data as it promised, but not everything. I couldn't even figure out if it could use Google Toolbar, something I use a lot. It seemed to be slow for the sites I used. When I went to use Firefox, it no longer worked.
I tried using Chrome for a few hours, but gave up. Once I uninstalled Chrome, Firefox returned from the ashes. I'll probably try Chrome later, just not now. Tue, Sep. 2nd, 2008, 08:56 am Google Chrome browser
So what's the dirt on Google's new Chrome browser? Any advanced word? Firefox has been a resource hog for me over the past few updates. Looking forward to something shiny and new. Mon, Sep. 1st, 2008, 08:34 pm Filthy Gorgeous
Gawd, what a gorgeous day. We first went to Brandy Ho's for lunch, but they got greedy and didn't offer their M-F lunch special today due to the holiday, so we left and went to Osaka. (They have lunch specials every day of the week.) Hit Starbears and watched men for awhile. Got to visit with pseudocub, bearhound, rexbear, et al, for a bit. Picked up some veggies and chipotle chicken tenders at Delano's, checked out by the wondrous Wonder G. She should have her own webpage. The only good thing about Delano's is location and Wonder G. She rocks. Steve is almost always the one to cook, but today I grilled. Chicken tenders, grilled mixed vegetables, corn on the cob, and grilled garlic bread. Yum. Jerry likes my corn. Mon, Sep. 1st, 2008, 10:47 am Grandma Palin
Darn, that internet rumor that Palin's downs baby was actually her daughter's isn't true. Just to prove it, they've announced that Bristol, their 17-year old daughter is five months pregnant. I liked the other Bree Hodge-esque rumor better. |
