Yesterday
Quite a productive day yesterday. Cinema, multiplexes, malls, books, lj meets, shooters, ceylone parathas, guest houses and Bangalore Dhabas.

The Day

Saw Swades finally. Not bad, worth a watch once.

Saw it at PVR. PVR rocks, although it was a 150 bucks ticket for a 11 o clock matinee. Oh well still cheaper then INOX ;-) ::runs::

PVR being at Forum, got to see Forum too. Almost bought a lot of stuff including a 7000 bucks leather jacket but finally bought only one book Games Alcoholics Play.

Amazon Blurb

Drawing on soundly tested theories of transactional behavior, Dr. Steiner describes the three distinct types of alcoholics -- Drunk and Proud, Lush and Wino -- and their games, scripts and rackets: Debtor... Kick... Cops and robbers... Plastic Woman... Captain Marvel...Ain't it awful... Schlemiel... Look how hard I've tried... and others.
The LJ Meet

Met [info]amunix at Forum later at KFC. He suddenly dissapeared somewhere after promising to come back but never did.

The Cocktails.

Spotted some Smirnoff Twist at Fabmall so bought Smirnoff & Smirnoff Orange Twist and some mixed fruit juice. Came back to where I'm staying and spotted some rose syrup. So [info]dhempe and me made shooters and had them while we waited for [info]premshree.

The Dinner

Had excellent food at Parotha Point near Mekhri Circle. Had Ceylone paratha which I read as cyclone paratha. Ceylone paratha + butter chicken == good stuff. And damn cheap too. Just 132 bucks for butter chicken, 3 ceylone parathas, 4 or 5 kerala parathas, one chicken manchurian, two fried eggs sunny side up. I live nearby. so I guess that's where I'll be eating henceforth :) Thanks to [info]kaustubhhere for pointing out the place.

The Night Out.

Finally we went someplace other then Tavern ;-)

Visited the famous Bangalore Dhabas last night somewhere 20km out of Bangalore where one drives in and has food/booze in their car or on the few tables there. Quite fun. [info]premshree and I were tripping on the concept and had to be dragged away :)

Before that was cocktails (for me at least) at [info]jackol's guest house.

No photos yet. Forgot camera with [info]dhempe.

Gah, shouldn't have smoked yesterday. I seem to have gotten back the cough. Must quit before it turns into something major. :-(

I want to know more about Bangalore Dhabas. And how they're different from, say, Delhi Dhabas. Or Any-Other-Place Dhabas -- I mean, considering you guys were "tripping on the concept" and all :-)
So yeah, what was the concept?

I haven't been to a Delhi Dhaba or Delhi, it's on the TODO list.

This I guess wasn't a dhaba in the real sense. It had mostly drunken guys coming in from Bangalore (youngish crowd) cause all the bars shut down early there. There is a large open space where one goes and parks and someone delivers the booze to the car. Almost every car is blasting some music. So each group is hanging in or around the car. There are also 'plastic' tables and chair around if you want to sit and eat. It's not really a friendly atmosphere though. Rowdy crowd. Most people there just seemed to be too drunk and out to have fights. And rash drivers, some crazy driver could even run over/into you if you're sitting at one of the tables. It got much better later in the night after most of the crowd left.

I haven't been anywhere north actually. The most I reached is uptil Chattisgrah which is not really even north, just norther then Bombay.

I seem to have travelled mostly around Maharashtra, M.P./Chattisgrah, Goa and Karnataka.

You've travelled quite a decent bit.
Me - Delhi (all my life), a few trips to Chandigarh, undergrad in Chennai. Can't even say I've 'travelled' in Tamil Nadu - one city doesn't count. Oh and 3 2-day trips to B'lore that were mostly spent inside the campus.
Also, I find it somewhat funny that everyone in Chennai speaks of Bombay as "up north", while people from Bombay don't consider they're all that "north" and talk of places like Delhi as north!

He he he. We's in the middle :) So we actually have both a north and south to go to :) Unlike those in the er, north and south :D

There's so much of India left to see and all of it so different from the other. I must see a lot more of it at least this year. That was one of the New Year Resolutions.

Since your comment on the other post seems to have dissapeared during the Lj crash, I'll reply here.

You mean he just ditched you in B'lore and left? So you're going to have to rent a car and get back? Or catch a train?
And doesn't [info]dhempe wear socks with his shoes? If that is the case, tell him I'm really jealous that they let him dress so casually at work (I can see the tan on his feet!!!)

Well I don't know him that well and he has his own crowd in Bangalore who he was hanging around with. He's someone I met off Ryze. I had met him only thrice in my life uptil now :D

I hadn't planned to come back with him. He's going to be here for a long time. I came just cause I was getting a free trip in the car to Bangalore. I'll go back when I get bored or get kicked out of Bangalore ;-)

Plus I'm totally loving it here with the house all to myself. The third guy who is the original renter of the room has also gone to Bombay for a while.

(Damn, I just got a call saying he's already back in Bangalore)

About [info]dhempe I don't remember if he was wearing shoes at all or only sandals. And yes everytime I met him he was coming from work in T-Shirts.

PVR has three cinemas - Classic, Europa and Gold.

Classic has rate of Rs.50 for matinee and Rs.100 for other shows Mon-Thu and Rs.130 for ALL shows on Fri-Sun.

Europa (where we saw SWADES) has rate of Rs.75 for matinee and Rs.130 for other shows Mon-Thu and Rs.150 for ALL shows on Fri-Sun.

Gold Class has Rs.500 all shows all days.. seats are fully reclinable and free food worth Rs.150! :))

good thing is that Entertainment tax (40%!!) is going to be slashed in Karnataka for multiplexes. that means more cheaper tickets - Rs.50 ticket should be avble for Rs.36 and Rs.75 ticket for Rs.52 and so on.. but the catch is that you have to have atleast 2 screens reserved for kannada movies.

To give you an idea of what that is, here is what is going to change:

PVR currently runs 51 'shows' per day on 11 screens in which maximum 4 shows are kannada. now they will have to show compulsory 10 shows everyday giving just 41 shows to all other languages..
