For people who don't know about this. The writers of a lot of  (major) hollywood series are on strike at the moment to get fair compensation for the work they do. Main issue is payment for internet use and download. Currently the writers don't get anything. And only $ 0.04 per DVD.

For the first time also fans have spoken up in support to the writers. One of the inititatives is Pencils2MediaMoguls where the fans sent (truck loads) of pencils to the networks to let them know we support the writers in their strike.

It's $1 for dozen pencils and you can name the series you support.

I've donated $5 and I hope more people will show their support the same way.

I haven't posted in ages...well make that almost a year.
I have been on LJ though, enjoying my flist and reading and participating in the many fandom groups  I'm a member of.
But you know how it goes... due to work I don't have a lot of time online and once I've checked out my flist and read as much fanfic as I can *G* I'm often to tired and/or don't have the time to post at my own LJ.

I've decided that due to how LJ/6A dealing with fandom I don't want to give them my money anymore.  My paid account expires in september and I won't renew it. Their actions really pisses me off. I hate the hypocritical stance of LJ towards for the fandom community.
I see it now mainly in the HP fandom, but it's spreading.
They are on a witch hunt (no pun intended) against anything sexual in the HP fandom underaged or not! What part of fictional character don't they understand!

According to 6A views I'm probably a pedophile *snorts* because I love fanfic with a age difference and also Slash *gasps* . Like Buffy/Giles, Giles/Oz, Snape/Hermione, Snape/Harry. Also Faith/Buffy, House/Cameron, Kirk/Spock (pfew got away there / sarcasm) .

If they want to 'clean up their act' Ok I don't like it but lets me fair then and not so hypocritical. Lets not just ban people who are into fictional character sex and go after the fandoms, but also investigate groups who are hurting people in Real Life. So what did I learn from 6A:

• Sex is bad,
• Homosexuality is bad
• sex with fictional characters is worse,
• thread your customers badly and lie to them

....I wonder why I won't give them my money anymore.

I'll keer my free account because of my flist and because of my main fandoms (HP, BTVS and House) are located here.
Does anyone have advice what other good communities are. Maybe greatest journal, Insane Journal or Journal Fen ?

It's 23:20 hours and it's still almost 30 degrees. There goes my plan for a good night sleep.
Whish I had an airco.
And I didn't get a lot of things done in the flat. I wanted to paint some stuff, but the paint dried on the paintbrush itself. So not the effect I was looking for.
The good news is, that the forecast is going to be a bit better and with a bit of luck it well be below 30 degrees tomorrow.

Yes it's me again, I'm really sorry for not posting in ages. Just a short post to let you guys know I'm still alive. 

I've been without internet the last 2,5 months *shudders* due to the renovations of our flat. I have internet at work, but they are really strict over there, so I could only check my email. Yesterday it was the first time in ages since I had both the time ( a whole 10 minutes) and the opportunity to check my LJ *pets her LJ* I missed it !!!

Since the last time I posted I got married (28 april) :) And it was truly a fantastic day! Everything went perfect and everyone was relaxed and we had a lot of fun. My best friends were my bridemaids and witnesses (not sure what the english translation is).  As a injoke there were dressed up in green dresses as a homeage to the Buffy wedding dress. Years ago when we watched that ep together I joked that if I got married they should dress up like that. When I say them I laughed I had tears in my eyes. I got married in my birth town and in the street were I always lived and also was born. We kept it small, not to much people which I liked a lot. Only the people we are really close to were there. And at night we gave a large beach party. Which was also fantastic. I'm not to keen to post pictures on the internet, but if anyone on my flist is intersted to see some wedding pics let me know and I send them by email. 

For us not a lot has changed, but the strange thing is people take you more seriously now and in the eyes of people I'm officially grown up now.....weird ;-)

The renovation of our flat went really well. In the seven weeks of the renovation we lived in a old peoples home....which was really funny.....we saw our future together....and oh my god it was boring ;-)

I took a month of from work and now we are working on the flat: moving everyting back in again, painting, laying in a new floor, new furniture ect. A lot of work but it's going to be beautiful. I only hope we get it finished before I have to start again.

On a more fannish note: I finally saw Firefly. That series is bloody fantastic...I really don't get why they cancelled it!!!!! It got us totally hooked on Joss again. So after watching Firefly and Serenity again we started to wacht all the Buffy eps again. Gotta love season one where they are still looking for the format. And I'm totally back in BG mode. Love the not so working six inch rule and the chemistry between Buffy and Giles. And it's great to see the scoobies again....I really missed that in the later seasons. 

I'm off to get some breakfast and I hope I have time to check my flist. It's going to be 42 degrees here, so I think I won't do to much work on the flat.

It has been ages that I've updated my LJ an commented on my friends LJ....so sorry for that. 
A lot of things have been happening in my life...good things but it made it almost impossible to get behind the computer and check LJ and my favorite boards :(

At the end of 2005 my contract wasn't renewed becuse the project I was working on ended. So I needed to find a new job. Since I work in the media world and audiovisual archiving there aren't a lot of jobs out there, because it is a really small world where everyone knows each other. 
To make a long story short I found a new job at the Dutch Institute for Sound and Vision, which is the archive for the Dutch public broadcasters. I'm really happy with that because I always wanted to work there. They have this great archive with fantastic material. They gave me an one year contract with a option to renewal it after that year. And I work on a project to make digital audiovisual material availible for schools and universities. I started in february and I like it a lot over there.  My colleague's are a lot of fun, some are even movie freaks as I am and we are all in the same age range. The only thing I still need to get used to is the very long days I have to work. I work 40 hours a week and I have to travel at least 4 hours a day to get there. So I leave at 7 o clock in the morning and I get back at 8 at night the earliest. 

That means I don't have time to get behind the computer at night (and I don't really feel the need because during my work I sit behind the computer all day) and in the weekends Oskar en I are prepairing for our wedding and getting the flat ready for a very big renovation. (only the inner walls will be standing the rest will be torn down and rebuild).

I'm really excited about the wedding. We finally have everything back on track. 3 weeks ago we got a message that the location for our dinner and party weren't availible anymore. Which sucks big time because these locations are the most difficult to find :( So we went frantic and tried to find a new place. But most  nice restaurants and bars (for the party) were already booked or asked outrages prices. It drove us nuts. But finally this week we found a really cool restaurant and a great place at the beach to have our party. Now we only need to fill in the details. 

Today I took a day of from work because it's my birthday....I'm 29 almost 30 and I just found my first grey hair......wwhhhhhaaaaaaaaa not stress at all ;-) I slept till 10 o clock which felt great because normally I have to get up at 6...and I'm so not a morning person!! 
So today I'm going to relax en prepair the house for a dinner I'm giving. 
And when I have the time I'm going to check LJ....which is such a long time ago, 

On a fannish note I finally got my Serenity DVD, which rocks and I still can't belief that it did bad in the cinema....people don't have any good tast these days ;-) And a good friend of mine lend me her Firefly box. I haven't had time to watch it yet, but I'm so looking forward to it!!!!

And I haven't seen a lot of films these days but one stood out and that was the horror flick The Decent. I absolutly loved it! Very low budget, simple sets and bad guys. But it really worked to it's advantage. It's about a group of friends (all women which is nice for a change) wo go climbing in a non charted cave. And of course they are not alone. It's a very claustofobic film which had me jumping of my seat a couple of times and the gore and fights are really good. 

The next on my list are: Brokeback mountain, Capote, Syriana and walk the line.

I haven't posted or responded to comments for a while, because life has been very hectic....but in a good way :)

I had a long to do list and most of it has been done:

• getting engaged - check
• getting my Master degree and Uni - check
• having a very big graduation party - ckeck *hips*
• Finding a new job - check
• Going on a romantic gettaway with fiancé - check. Went to Limburg..I love it over there :)
• Getting a house ready for a big renovation

These are the most important ones.

I'm glad to have found another job. I work now at a cinema and as a audio visual documentalist at a large tv archive. Which is loads of fun I can watch hours of tv and write articles about it and I get paid *g*

The only thing is that I make very long hours because both jobs are very far from my home. Without counting my traving hours I've worked 60 hours this week. So my fannish live has been put on hold....and I so mis it! But I'm glad to finally earn some money and work in the profession I really want to :)

Saw some really good films last few weeks:

• Charlie and the Chocolate factory: loved Jonny Depp as the kid hating Willy Wonka.
• Manderlay: The new Lars von Trier film. Really good, I was really impressed with the controversial story about slavery.
• Crash: Saw that last night, great storytelling with mixing very different stories together. Loved the fact that it wasn't PC and spoke about controversial issues like racism and violance.
• Guernsey: doupt anyone has seen it. Beautiful Dutch film about a woman who starts really to observe life after a co worker killed herself and realises nothing is like it seems. Very little dialogue and little camera movement. Very japanese like in the camerawork.

Gotta go back to work (writting this at work)

 

Been watching loads of horror movies the last few days. All kind of types from hardcore Asian stuff to Evil Dead and also Shaun of the Dead. Which kinda describes itself best as a Romantic comedy with Zombies. The more I see it the better it gets. It's a ode to all those fantastic Romero zombie films and it's both funny and scary at the same time.

I've made my first banner *pets her paid account* with Shaun of the Dead theme. I also made a bunch of icons of that movie. I tried to use as many different styles as I could. Let me know if you like or dislike a certain style.

I found making the banner kind of hard, because I'm used to work on 100X100 pixels, but I'm happy with how it turned out.

Regarding posting these icons I've got a question about background colour. I work with a lot  of white borders (see the first and third icon) and if I post them in my journal you can't see the borders and it kinda screws up the way I intended the icon to be. Recently I saw some people post icons and they posted them on a coloured background layer. The layer was only for the icons and not the rest of the post. The last 45 minutes I've been looking like crazy but I can't seem to find a tutorial of how to make such a local background layer. Can someone point me to a tutorial and explain what code I need to use? Thanks!!

England was great. We've travelled around a lot. We started in Bath -those roman baths were amazing for a history buff as me- then we went to Cornwall, South-Wales. Then off the Kelmarsh were a large re-enactment event was. (My boyfriend and I are part of a Roman group)and we had a great time with 2000 other re-enactors. And last few days we went to Haisting.

The countryside and towns were beautiful.The people were a fun and very friendly and I've lost count on the number of English breakfasts and pints of localale and bitters we drunk *hips*

I'm going on hiatus untill the end of August while I'm going on holiday to Wales. Lots of hiking, BBQ-ing, reading and enjoying the landscape. I'm really looking forward to it while it's been a while since we went on holiday :)

Probably because I've been reading loads of Slash lately. Been reading a lot of Snape/Black fics by fabularasa. I love her fics she makes this pairing really work.

I'm also tempted to make a bunch of HBP icons, but I decided to wait till the end of the month because I don't want to spoil anyone. A friend of mine told me she saw a HBP review on the German television a day after the release and they gave away all the important plot points. Someone need to Crucio their asses!

I'm going to make a bunch of Snarry icons, now I only need to find some good Harry pics. My HP folder is full of dozen Snape pics but not one Harry one....obsessed much with a particular character.
