did you forget who four_eyed_girl is? Nov. 27th, 2007 @ 12:40 pm
so, friends, I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving.  And past year, because I'm pretty sure it has been that long since I have typed a single statement here on Livejournal.  So, I have been sewing a lot lately.  and I really mean a lot.  Like I go home from work and I start sewing.  and I stay up very late sewing, and at times I wake up and sew before work.  But it's all for the money, so whenever that starts rolling in, I will be happier.  I finally completed thirteen  Cratchitt children for TM, and I am currently working on costumes for Pre-sent/Pres-ent for Voices of the South/Project Motion.  This one has really presented me with some challenges.  I have to make not only a dress that looks like a snowman, but also a mermaid and a lobster costume, and 2 of these are worn by  men (and it's NOT the lobster!)

Phoebe turned 11 last week.  we went to Olive Garden and spent way too much money.  We went looking for boots yesterday, because that is what she wanted from my mama (mama just tells me to get them something they pick out and she pays for it) and who wants to guess what size shoe we bought???   a 10!!  Seriously.

ok, I was really writing this just to say that if anyone has shopping to do (who doesn't) and wants to buy some cute/clever/funny/witty/pretty  t-shirts, check out Threadless.  They have a $10 sale right now and if you get there via my link here, I get points toward shirts.  So do it!   http://www.threadless.com/?streetteam=4.eyed.girl

love to all of you out there!!  Hopefully I will keep up with this whole writing thing for a while now.

help me win a call from Rhett Miller, my favorite singer Apr. 17th, 2006 @ 10:52 am
Hey friends, I know I'm a pain, but some people just aren't in to the whole myspace scene. ha. Do me a favor and help me win this contest.
Go to my Myspace page. It is www.myspace.com/four_eyed_girl.

Look at the Music section.

At the end of it, there is an ". . ." that shows up as a link. Click on that and register, if you have the time. It'll take less than 5 minutes. Once you register, they send you an e-mail which links you right back to finish registering.

it sounds harder than it is.

The goal is to earn 500 points which you can get by answering about 8 questons. When you do that, I get 300 points.

Click on MISSION. I think that in itself gives you 25 points.

Click on VOTE. just answer the questions. they are like poll questions.

Click on QUIZ: answers have to be right to get points. Here are the answers.
1) New York
2)all of the above
3)yrs, Rhett
4) Last call with Carson Daly

(3 and 4 might be out of order, I'm doing it by memory)

Then you would have 500 points at least, and I would get credit. Then you can be done with it forever.
I automatically get the points because it is a custom link that they know came from me. and if you really love me, you can do it with several e-mail addresses.

I need Rhett Miller to call ME!! Apr. 15th, 2006 @ 03:26 pm
So here's the deal. I love my husband. So very much. I also love Rhett Miller. Very much. I have loved him so much longer than I have even known my husband. Rhett Miller is the lead singer of the Old 97s and I like to call myself a SuperFan. I have seen them on NUMEROUS OCCASIONS and had the amazing opportunity to "hang out" with Rhett just a week ago in the ATL.

But now I'm trying to win this contest so he will call me on the phone. So if anyone who cares about me will go to this website and I'll get points. Well, actually, I think you would have to get friends to sign up for me to get points.

http://i-squad.com/link/link/NDUwMzEzfDI2Nw==

But it's a good cause. Everyone should listen to Mr. Miller. A very talented songwriter and amazing performer. And he's easy on the eyes, as I like to say.

The death of Jesus (Christ Superstar) Mar. 6th, 2006 @ 02:47 pm
I haven't done this in so long. Sorry y'all.

Well, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR is over. I like to believe it was a success. At least it felt good, and people seemed to respond quite positively. And I'm proud of my costumes. I put some up on my myspace.

Oscars were good. Hung out with some friends at Jeanne's birthday party to watch them. I did pretty well, I got 15 right. The odd thing is that I've only seen Crash this year (well, I saw Batman and the Wallace and Grommit movie too) but I think those were the only 3 I'd seen at all. I really like CRASH so I was supporting it as though I had seen the others and could actually make an intelligent decision.

Reese nearly made me cry talking about June Carter Cash.

I'm trying to see Brokeback Mountain this week with Amy and Nick and Jeanne, I think. I really would like to see it on the big screen before it leaves. Of course, I haven't even seen Walk the Line, which is pretty much insane, seeing as I was so very excited about it and still am.

I was all alone today at the Pink Palace. My co-worker called in sick. Absolutely no excitement whatsoever, except when Steve came up here and we talked about the ugly/pretty dresses last night and the crazy ticket host here at the museum.

So anyway, now I have no rehearsals and no performances and all I'm gonna do is sit on my butt on the couch and watch American Idol and the Amazing Race. And I'm excited about it. Well, I'll enjoy it for a couple of weeks, then the novelty will wear off and I will be stir crazy in my house and need to get out and do something!! Then, I'll be calling you dear friends!!

Oh, and we got our DVDs of JCS yesterday, so if any of you loved it THAT MUCH, you can see it on dvd (CASEY?! Are you up for it?)

love ya

Hey everyone!! We had quite an eventful Thanksgiving weekend. We drove to Michigan to see my in-laws, and boy was it snowy. We spun the Expedition off the road, knocked down an ADOPT A HIGHWAY sign going backwards, busted out the rear window completely, went through a chain link fence, and landed in the ditch. We would have flipped if we had taken my CRV. We had to wait a while for the tow truck, and when he came, as he pulled us out a little, he caused one of the fence poles to lodge it's way through the back side door from under the car. So then we were stuck even longer and had to wait for the fire department to come and cut the pole in half to get it out of the truck.

Now if you know me, you know I am not all that fond of cold weather, especially 12 degree weather. I was standing on the side of the road in my red fleece hoodie and a long sleeve t-shirt. My hair was literally covered with ice. LITERALLY! Thank the Lord I had actually worn real shoes instead of flip-flops.

anyway, we drove the remaining way with no rear window in freezing temperatures. That last leg of the trip should have been about 2 hours and it took us like 6. Our family ate Thanksgiving dinner without us. But we eventually made it there and the food was still good. Thank the Lord!!
» Jesus Christ Superstar
Long time no update, right? oh well.

My back is in severe pain, once again. And I've been on my medicine for nearly a week and it hasn't done a bit of good yet. Come on!! And the chairs here at the PInk Palace don't help one bit. They suck.

Tonight I am auditioning for Jesus Christ Superstar at the Harrell in Collierville. And I keep on changing my mind about what I want to sing. First I was planning on singing part of "O Bless the Lord, My Soul" from Godspell, but now I'm thinking I might do "Everything's Alright" from JCS. They said it was ok to sing from the show, and while I initially didn't want to sing something from the show, I have realized how much I really like to sing the song. At least it is not "I don't know how to love him."

So if anyone wants to join me, like JOEL, just write me back.
» The beginning of just another week of work and rehearsals
Well, it's Monday, and boy could I have used the day off. I have so much to do still for Annie. We open on the 14th and my first Dress rehearsal is Thursday. I know it will all come together, but I am terribly worried about Thursday night since I will have to be getting ready for the show in addition to telling everyone else what to wear. Let it be heard that I have had a terrific time acting in the show, but please don't let me audition for a show I am costuming, particularly a quite large musical, unless it is The Who's Tommy or Rent or maybe one of a couple more shows I would love to be in.

I need to make a trip to a thrift store and get some last minute purchases. More orphan stuff, possibly a suit for Rooster, pajamas for Ms. Hannigan. I need to go to Wal-Mart and get uniform-y things for the dog catchers and possibly Mr. Bundles, the laundry man. I need to drive to the store where they have oodles of tux shirts I am buying, however the store is on Germantown road near Wolfchase, and that hasn't fit into my schedule for the past week. I need to make 16 shiny blue cummerbunds, one Boylan sister dress, 1 Hannigan Dress, 1 fancy Grace Farrell dress, and 1 more Annie dress. I made Rebecca's Star to Be dress last night and it is terribly cute. Same pattern as Lily's pink and black dress.

I need to stop at Walgreens and by some knee pads. Did I mention to anyone that I wore the cute kitten heel flip flops given to me by Lisa to the Museum yesterday and fell straight on my right knee, not once, but THREE TIMES. Did I mention that I have to go down on that very knee not one, but two times during the show each night? Now I know I'm no orphan, climbing around on my knees for an entire song, but I'm old and don't want to test my knees.

My house is a wreck. All I want is for my husband to do some dishes. That's all I want. I just want to come home and find something cleaner than it was when I left, hours before. I don't want to find, however, that he did in fact, clean off the kitchen table just so that he and Zach could play Dungeons and Dragons.

Ok, that's all for now. Oh, and it has been over a week since the Old 97's Alive and Wired live 2 disc set came out, and I haven't been able to get it, because I haven't really had the time to stop at a store where they have it. These days, if I can't get it on iTunes, I don't have time to pick it up!!

Sorry y'all. I don't really complain all that much, but sometimes you have to, right?

  1. birkenstocks:
I just love 'em, though my favorite pair (my dark brown suede Arizona's), are officially DEAD. Beyond repair. I wore through back part of the rubber sole, and the cork started slipping out the back when I wore them. They took time to break in, but I think I'm ready to start on a new pair.
  2. cows that type:
OK, so this is a book. I don't really have any interest in Cows that type, though it would be hilarious. Click Clack Moo, Cows that Type, to be exact. Pick it up. Yeah, I know it's a kids book.
  3. homemade purses:
So I go through phases, and my family says I never complete things. I believe I'm just exploring the options, trying to find my real passion and interests. I'm super crafty, and I was making these purses from magazines a couple of years ago. Just let me know if you want one. I still have a lot.
  4. kasey chambers:
Kasey Chambers is this amazing Australian Country singer. Her voice is beautiful though some people find it a bit whiny/twangy. 5 years ago, I was in my first apartment here in Memphis in my bedroom, but the tv was on in the living room. Letterman was on, and he introduced this chick, and when I heard her voice, I ran into the room. I went to Borders the next day and got the album. Plus, her songs aren't too too hard to play on guitar, so I can play 'em. Oh, the one time I got the nerve to play at an open mic night in West Virginia, I did a Kasey Chambers song.
  5. memphis:
I'm a fan of Memphis. Probably because I haven't lived here all my life. I dig it. I have no plans to leave in the near future. But who knows.
  6. old 97's:
Don't even get me started!! I really probably don't have to tell you about the Old 97's, except that there is a live double cd that came out last week called ALIVE AND WIRED and I DON'T HAVE IT YET!! I've been too, too busy, and that is unbelievable.
  7. r.p. tracks:
Tracks is a bar here. Spent a lot of money there several years ago when I was in school. Not so much any more, though their quesadillas kick butt. They have this one (the Q-8) with bacon, and peppers and gouda and barbeque sauce. It is awesome!!
  8. tank tops:
Who doesn't love tank tops? Well, I guess some people. But I'm still a fan.
  9. the state:
The State was a sketch comedy show on MTV back in the day. Probably the most famous cast member from the State would be Michael Ian Black, that guy from Ed and those new Sierra Mist commercials. The State inspired my pronunciation of "Peng-ens" with a skit about these guys who wanted to "go to the zoo to watch the monkeys do it." They also discussed the animals that Noah took on the ark, saying that "Noah didn't take no pengins on the ark! Pengins ain't natural!."
  10. wint-o-green lifesavers:
once again, who doesn't love wint-o-green lifesavers? my mama is a big fan as well. But do you ever notice how some of them have nearly no flavor, while others burn your mouth? What's up with that?

» Hey, that guy looks like the guy from Spoon.
So last night, Erin and I had a date. We went to Cozymel's for MARGARITA TIME and yummy food and entertaining conversation with our waiter. Oh, if you ever go to Cozymel's and ask for a big bowl of chicken tortilla soup, you will receive a BIGASS BOWL OF TORTILLA SOUP. No joke. Erin barely made a dent in it. And we had Queso Flameado, which our fun waiter set ON FIRE in front of our eyes!!

After eating, we headed to Newby's for Edwin McCain. I was pretty excited, but Erin was super excited. I saw Edwin McCain once before when he came to Mercer. The crowd was thin, and the opening band hadn't even started yet. Erin and I were already getting tired. How sad are we?

The opening guy was named David Ryan Harris, or some other name made up of 3 first names. He was pretty cool, but his songs were a bit too chorus heavy. But he made the comment that he was very excited because unlike when he played with his own band, he actually liked the guys he was with tonight. They were his friends and a great backing band. Well, I kept thinking that the keyboardist looked super familiar and he was totally into his music. His name was Kevin Lovejoy, and I made a mental note of that so I wouldn't forget. So I got here today and looked him up, and sure enough, he's that guy with the crazy hair from Spoon. He kept walking by us while he was loading up his stuff and I totally could have met him. Dang, Mama!

OH, I forgot the most important thing!! WE DON'T HAVE TO MOVE!! Wheeeee. That takes a load off my shoulders. Tom is raising the rent, but only from $700 to $735! So that's not too bad at all. Better than the cost of moving and the hassle.
» Why Can't I Convince Myself That I Deserve a Whole Day Off?
So, I've now added Mondays to my days of work. I'm at the Pink Palace, and boy is it slow. I just helped a couple from Pennsylvania and couldn't remember the town we Honeymooned in. How sad is that??

I just sold exhibit tickets to a family of evacuees from a town outside New Orleans.

Who wants to pick up my children today at 3:30? I've got to figure out what to do. I could probably not go to lunch and go get them, take them to the Theatre, and be back in time for the 4:30 show, but that seems kindof silly, since we will probably sell approximately 4 tickets to the 4:30 show. I'll just ask Sheila about it.

Casey, if you read this, call me.

Last night was a dance rehearsal for Annie. I'm a bit sore. My husband laughed at me last night, because I was dancing in the living room. I put the wordless version of the songs on my iPod, and now I can practice my dances ALL THE TIME. Because Lord knows I need to. And I've really got to re-teach them all to Phoebe, because she can't get them in the time of rehearsal.

Tonight are the Ostranders. Should be good fun. No nominations in our family this year, though I'm excited for all TM's nominations and 2 noms for the Harrell. Casey and I are going together, since Dan is going to Boy Scouts. I still have no clue what I'm gonna wear. Crap.

So, once again, I'm back at the Pink Palace. God knows I need the money, so this place once again called me back. But at least I won't be as poor as before. They brought back supervisor pay, so I agreed to come back on weekends. Woo hoo. Anyone who wants to come by and see Fighter Pilot in the IMAX--come see me!! Not that I've seen it yet!

So Phoebe and I are gonna be in Annie together. Unfortunately, I will not be Ms. Hannigan. Fortunately, I will have time to actually do a good job on the costumes and possibly still have time time to have a life outside of the theatre. What am I talking about, my life is the theatre.

No luck yet on the House-hunt Front. We did, however, drive by one in the University area just yesterday that we were interested in. I called the lady who owns it and she asked "How many people would it be for?" I said it was a family, 2 adults and 2 kids. She told me that she would rather rent it to a family than to students. The price she gave us was $925, but maybe we could get her down a little, since we are such a nice family and we won't punch a hole in the back door like the last tenants. Hopefully. At least I won't.

Well, it just got busy for the 3:20 Fighter Pilot show. It's a rush time, they say.

That's enough for now. I'll now have more time to update my LJ, finally.
» back pain sucks to my ass-mar.
I know, it's amazing. I'm actually updating my journal! Hey y'all, I've been busy. We've started dress rehearsals for West Side Story, and I've still got a lot of work to do. Oh, and then there's the small matter of my BACK THAT IS PRETTY MUCH KILLING ME. Well, it's getting better.

Here's how it happened. It was Saturday night and I was out at the Harrell for a tech rehearsal. I left Collierville and headed to TM to wait tables for the Gershwin Cabaret. I got there a little before 8, walked through the parking lot, and entered the building. As soon as I reached the box office window where I found Casey, my back pretty much BROKE and I thought I was gonna collapse. Casey told me to work the Box office and she would serve the drinks. So I stumbled into the box office and tried to sit down which might have just hurt even more than standing.

So I somehow made it through the show and Casey drove me home. I spent all the next day on my back, and on Monday by noon, I knew I had to go to il doctore. Dan called to check on me and I said he needed to come get me. So we ended up at a doctor's office by St. Francis hospital and I had X-Rays and all that good stuff, and I found out I have a Degenerate Disc. No fun. So I started Physical Therapy yesterday with my cute Physical Therapist named Michael, and they gave me an Anti-Inflammatory medicine, so I feel a little better.

That's that. So, the reason I'm a bit behind on WSS is that I was on my back for my 3 entire days off when I was supposed to be sewing!! But I'm catching up.

Oh, and I had to take a call from the biggest bitch in the world this morning. She made me soooo mad, and then she came in today and I had to be cordial to her. oooohh. she made me so mad.
» Good times to be had by all (who were with me at the Old 97s last night)!!
Wheeee! I love converting people to be Old 97s crazies just like me!! Last night, our crowd was: Me, Casey, Dan, Mimi and Erin Shelton. And everyone left the show telling me how much they enjoyed it and how pretty Rhett is (Casey interjects BEAUTIFUL here)! Duh, like I haven't been screaming that for 10 YEARS NOW!! Well, maybe Dan didn't tell me that Rhett was pretty.

I got a set list. It was Rhett's. Casey got one, too. Her's was Noah's. He's the roadie/merch guy that I've talked to several times.

On the way home, we argued about who among us Rhett was making eye contact with. (please don't kill me for the grammatical correctness of that sentence, I worked for nearly 3 minutes on it)

Anyway, I had trouble sleeping, and remember looking at the clock until nearly 4:30, though I'm sure I got a little sleep in there.

Yay! I love my boys from Texas! Oh, and the other best thing of the night-- It was between Bobby Bare Jr. (who also rocked, btw) and the Old 97s, and we were guarding our spots right by the stage, and I turn around and Dan is talking to this guy, who I quickly realize is LIZA'S FRIEND BRIAN, WHO CAME TO MY WEDDING FROM TEXAS!! He and his boyfriend just MOVED here to Memphis, because of a job, and Brian's gonna be starting at the University in Creative Writing in the fall. I couldn't believe it. We decided that all we had to do now, is get Miss Liza to move here!! That would be good times to be had BY ALL.

So we told Brian to come by the Theatre, since he should know where it is. And he lives not too far away from us. Such a small world.

Anyway, us gals have our 97s Perma-grin for a couple days now whenever we think of Rhett, even though we are all terribly tired. Oh well, it's worth it.

I love my friends!
» I'm so freaking excited!!
What am I listening to right now, you ask? Why it's my Old 97s Greatest Hits playlist compiled by Myself!! And who am I going to be seeing tonight at Newby's? The Old 97's. And who's guitar string am I wearing around my neck in celebration of the day?? Rhett's, of course. I'm so excited.

Whoever wishes to join us (and that should be everyone!!) come on over to Newby's tonight on Highland. Tickets are on sale at the door for $15.00. Doors open at 9, or so the website says. I'm about to call and see if I can get them earlier.

Front row baby!! There can't be a bigger fan than me here in Memphis! And if there is, I'll take em on in a 97s trivia BATTLE!!

Take that!
