Subject:Philosophical Hermeneutics...
Time:10:19 pm.
It's been a while since I read really intensive philosophical material but this book, Philosophical Hermeneutics, has been sitting on my bookshelf for too long. I have started to read it and I'm very much having a similar experience to my reaction to Maslow's The Farther Reaches of Human Nature. I just keep writing notes because every other paragraph is an "Aha! Spot on!" moment.

Feels so good to be stimulated like that again.

Subject:Health Insurance Cooperative Unions?
Time:11:38 am.
I was explaining Left Libertarianism to my Great Aunt in a letter and wrote this. So I thought I would post it.

A Libertarian Socialist society would be composed of discrete groups of mutually interested individuals such as cooperatives and unions, rather than authoritarian government agencies or massive companies that control and consolidate the means of production. We have seen state-socialism fail time and time again and we are in the process of witnessing state-capitalism fail. Bureaucracy is inefficient and wasteful. It only serves to increase bureaucracy. Think about what would be possible if instead of insurance corporations run by millionaires we had insurance unions, where the profit was reinvested into the members in the form of lower premiums and deductibles? That's the way my credit union works. If I am healthy and contribute to the fund I should see some benefit from my success, rather than subsidizing the poor lifestyles of those who do not take care of themselves. It would give people more incentives to be healthy and it could even allow people to start their own insurance unions if they are unhappy with others. We do not need state-run health insurance because the state will be slow to process claims and will not be able to offer enough variety in coverage. I look at the immigration process and hyperventilate at the idea of such incompetence applied to health care. People can have six month waits to see a doctor in Canada, for example. I would rather pool my insurance money with maybe a thousand other people who want similar coverage in a cooperative union.

The idea of for-profit health insurance seems kinda sick to me. Competition keeps costs down? Not when all the big companies agree to gouge equally and are protected by corrupt state laws. An insurance cartel.

Subject:Biking over difficult terrain...
Time:4:56 pm.
Sheryl has been in need of a working laptop for quite some time. My old Gateway has some sort of hardware issues that cause it to be incredibly unstable across many operating systems. I found a crazy good deal on a Thinkpad R50 posted on Craigslist - which is perfect because Ubuntu Linux runs flawlessly on it. But, unfortunately, it was down in Apple Valley. So last night I biked all the way to Apple Valley and back in order to retrieve the thing. That puts my mileage for the day at 50 miles. Now, I've biked further that that in a day before but I have never biked that far over such ridiculous hills as Mendota Heights before...

I used to make the journey to Burnsville over those hills when I worked down there (thank God I don't work in the burbs anymore) but that was when I was on a relatively light road bike, not my Xtracycle (which probably weights twice as much).

There were some times when I thought I wouldn't make it but you just have drill it into your head that all that is needed is forward motion regardless of speed. As long as you don't stop you'll get there...

My legs feel fine today. Tomorrow will probably be the day I feel it.

Subject:New album artwork in the works.
Time:4:19 pm.
So there has been a question as to how I will produce the artwork for the new album. I believe that Sheryl and I are going to do image banking (improvisational, unrestricted drawing) and that I will adapt the output for the format. I have a gentleman lined up to illustrate the music production company logo - Vitruvian Marmot. You can see his other work here.

Subject:The Beginning and End of the World
Time:2:03 am.
I have this obscene holy anger,
and would kill everything on this planet...
if life and death were not lovers.
But we do not interrupt the works of love,
the acts of lovers,
for they are the essence of creativity
and presuppose even this vindictive spirit.

Under the plan, shares of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac would be worth little or nothing, and any losses on mortgages they own or guarantee would be paid by taxpayers.

This is the most shocking thing I have seen Senator Klobuchar get behind yet and that's saying a lot.

It seems to work well with Gnome-Do as long as you stick with Compiz Fusion instead of Kwin.

Subject:Nice things happened today...
Time:12:04 am.
We got a new camera! Both of our cameras kicked the bucket the same way: weird purple blurs and corrupted memory cards. So, we splurged and got a Pentax K10D digital SLR. It takes awesome photos and I'm having a lot of fun messing with all the manual functions. Unfortunately since we got it used it didn't come with the proprietary USB cable. I've ordered one but until it arrives I won't be able to transfer the images to the computer to upload them :(

I also had my mastering session today over at Rare Form Mastering. Greg did a good job. At first when I listened to the master it seemed too bright, but after taking a nap and hearing with fresh ears it sounds about right. As soon as I can wrangle together the album art I'll post it for public consumption.

We also received our coffee sleeves in the mail today. Maybe I didn't tell you folks about this idea... basically we need to find ways to get the business people in the downtown St. Paul area aware of our unit. So, I thought that maybe we could get custom coffee cup sleeves printed with our unit info and $500 bounty. The coffeeshops in the area can use them for the to-go drinks and hopefully will catch the eyes of many businessmen and businesswomen floating aroundhere.

So it was an exciting day filled with new things and experiences. I'm looking forward to the next month!

Israeli Air Exercise Probably Message to Iran

An Israeli Cabinet member said this month that the Jewish state "will attack" Iran if it doesn't halt its efforts to develop nuclear weaponry, according to an Israeli newspaper.

"If Iran continues its program to develop nuclear weapons, we will attack it," Deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz told Yediot Ahronot in the paper's June 6 report. "The window of opportunity has closed. The sanctions are not effective. There will be no alternative but to attack Iran in order to stop the Iranian nuclear program."

If the US joins in on an attack on Iran I will join my fellow Americans in the incitement of a revolution.

Subject:Gah! Noooo Amy Klobuchar!
Time:5:17 pm.
Klobuchar has joined Norm Coleman in co-sponsoring more more extreme sanctions against Iran. This is a sister bill to the bill introduced in the House that would essentially require a naval blockade to enforce...

From the House bill:

mposing stringent inspection requirements on all persons, vehicles, ships, planes, trains, and cargo entering or departing Iran; and prohibiting the international movement of all Iranian officials not involved in negotiating the suspension of Iran’s nuclear program;

Bah. Let's get rid of these sellouts, folks. Fortunately only Ramstad has come on to support the House bill.
