First Macross/Robotech, and now Cowboy Bebop...
Live-Action Cowboy Bebop Film in Development at Fox

So Hollywood now has plans to poop on Cowboy Bebop AND Macross (well Robotech.. so it could be an adaptation of one of the other 2 series). I guess I can at least be thankful that a Hollywood adaptation of The Legend Of Black Heaven is VERY unlikely.

.. i can see it now.. brilliant casting like Shia LaBeouf as Spike Spiegel! Jack Black as Jet Black! Hallie Berry as Faye Valentine! and Dakota Fanning as Ed! *grumble*

Anyone else have a nightmare cast? Who's the worst possible "hot" actors that Hollywood could get to play these characters?

Company newsletter pic
At a recent "all hands" meeting for my division in the company that I work for they decided to take a group picture. After about the 3rd or 4th picture, I got a little antsy.... and one of those pictures made it into the company newsletter.

Can you spot me? )

The Nothing Happening
We went and saw The Happening today... I went in with very low expectations. They reviews i've read pretty much ripped it to shreds. "How bad could it be? I've liked a lot of movies critics have hated."

Oh lord... it is BAD. Like amazingly bad. Like, "wow.... how did this get made" bad. Like, "Not even worth it for curiosity's sake" bad. Terrible dialog. Terrible concept. Terrible TERRIBLE performances all around. No tension what-so-ever. No empathy for anyone on the screen. The absolute worst episode i've seen of the Twilight Zone or the Outer Limits blows the movie away. Really... I can not stress enough: B-A-D! AVOID!

"Infinite Undiscovery" is easily one of the most retarded game titles I've ever heard.

Warning: WOW content ahead
So, last night I did the unthinkable... I joined a guild.

Pretty much my entire WOW "career" has been about PVP. Recently however, I've been running instances with my Alliance character, Neildiamond... It all started because, for PVP, I wanted the trinket Icon Of The Silver Crescent.. so I needed to run Heroic instances for badges, which I had NEVER done... most of the dungeons I haven't even been in on regular difficulty. From those runs, I got a lot of guild invites, but always turned them down... I liked my independence, but I started finding myself regretting turning those offers down when I had trouble finding groups for stuff like Magister's Terrace.

So, I get another invite last night, and on a whim I decide to accept. The guild really isn't all that great.. only 40 some 70s, and there's only 3 druids... 2 feral, and me, the Boomkin.

Oh well... they're doing a Kara run Saturday that I may get in on and see how that goes... also might see if I can get them to do a run to finish up my epic druid flying form quest... use them till something better comes along. :)

Anime North
Yes, we made it back from Anime North safe and sound (despite the Ontario drivers' best efforts). Sadly, can not say I had the best time... I just found the layout of the convention to be one of the most retarded things I've ever seen, and with Melissa's newly bad knee, this was just about the worst con we could have chosen to go to. We had fun hanging out with [info]_dejiko_, [info]hikaruchan, and [info]nyaonyaoneko... got a good photoshoot with [info]thereallink (but got stood up for another photoshoot with some Canadian photographer)... and it was good to all too briefly talk with [info]protoblues, but really all the good of the con really had nothing to do with the con itself and the distance between everything made pretty much anything we wanted to do a huge hassle. In general the con just greatly reminded me that I like small relaxing single hotel cons and that I will never under any circumstances EVER be convinced to go to Anime Expo (or Anime North again). Also, like to point out that this is not an angsty "rar rar shit con rar rar" post... just a "wow this con was amazingly wrong for us" post.

And as [info]nyaonyaoneko mentioned in her LJ, yes, this did end a cosplay win streak for us. We entered the friday skit competition and came away empty handed. Obviously it's not a big deal in the slightest... it just has me second guessing a lot of the work I did going into it... like some of our background music was inaudible when we were on stage... so basically just feeling a bit guilty for messing up the sound mix a little (not that hearing "Ow! I feel good" would have instantly catapulted the skit to legendary status or anything). Basically, we were taking Fruits Basket and going for a "so bad it's funny" skit making fun of sitcom tv commercials giving Shigure a lot of intentionally AWFUL one liners... and apparently we at least got the "bad" part right. :) Oh well... sounded as if we entertained and that is all that matters. I'll link video once it becomes available.

Speed Racer
Melissa and I caught Speed Racer this weekend, and even though I did really like it, I don't think I could possibly recommend it to anyone who didn't love the original series.

The movie was really a perfect homage to the original series feeling exactly like it. I really can't think of any cartoon that has ever been transitioned better to a live action film. The races were fantastic and as soon as the jump jack sound first hit I was totally absorbed... however; there were some pretty serious problems with the movie. It definitely felt like a kid's movie, and if that's the demographic they were going for the movie is WWWAAAYYY too long with far far too much boring and unneeded exposition... like Royalton's speech on the true nature of racing seems designed to bore children (and therefore make them restless and loud while i'm trying to watch a movie *grumble*).

My only other problem with the film is actually a bit of a nitpick... Sprittle and Chim Chim's cootie warning message at the end just totally deflated and destroyed the ending scene for me. Yes.... i know it's a weird thing to complain about, but it just shocked me out of the flow of the ending and prevented me from getting wrapped up in it like I wanted to be.

BUT, I totally rode the nostalgia wave and ended up loving the movie. It will be a must purchase on DVD... and it also left me desperately wanting the original series on DVD. Since Amazon has the 5 volumes of the series on sale for $8.49, and I can't remember how the series ends, I think I'm going to go order vol 5 now, and work my way backwards. :)

Got the newest CD from this French band called Moshpit to review, and felt the need to share them. Here's a video from their last album:

I used to really love gabber/hardcore techno, so I am eating this up... new album is more musically inclined than just the typical straight beats and screaming which really freshens the style up, while still being ear bleedingly intense. :)

Iron Man
Just thought I'd drop a quick post about Iron Man. We saw it Friday and I liked it QUITE a bit. It's a very fun movie that I really can't find a single fault with. Robert Downey Jr. is fantastic as Tony Stark. I can see little kids getting a little fidgety cause it's very strongly character driven and the material is taken very seriously... all around a wonderful treatment of the comic. Now I desperately hope it does well cause I WANT MORE!

Oh yeah... and if you see it, there's a little something extra at the end of the credits. :)
