yesterday was fantastic. first off, it was a stunningly beautiful friday with bright sunshine, no clouds, and about 75 degrees. then, about 11:30, we had an unexplained power outage in the office so i went with some people for an early lunch. when we got back, everyone who wasn't at lunch was lounging about on the grass in front of our building, tossing the football, juggling, conversing and generally having a good time. apparently, our facilities manager joy decided that having everyone inside during a power outage was a "fire hazard" and that we all were required to hang out and play in the sunshine.
joy is my new hero.
it was then determined that the PUD was going to take hours to fix the issue, so we were all sent home at about 1:30. so, about 10 or 12 of us (including my boss) went to the keg for a couple beers and then adjourned to pete's house for a spontaneous barbecue/scotch tasting/social networking event.
pete and i then rounded out the evening by going to a floater concert at the showbox at about 10. all in all, a very good good friday. |

wow, i've been reading a lot lately. since my last post, i've finished four more books, all interesting. a rex stout, a book about being a newly graduated law student, the first bond book casino royale, and a history of champagne. i haven't read this much in years. woohoo! |

well, it's been forever and a day since i finished a book. i've started several in the last few months, but never get around to finishing them. well, i just finished a biography on james k. polk (which, though concise, was quite good) and am picking up my history of the war of 1812 again. here's to ending my reading dry spell! |

good grief, my car is bad in the snow. i got stuck again on wednesday night on some itty bitty hill and had to wait for the melt before i could go get it. perhaps i should get chains ... but it couldn't snow again this year.
... or could it?
rock night on wednesday was, however, excellent. we really need to get into the studio before summer because we are ON. ROCK! |

last night i went and saw the presidents with woody, sweet cheeks and the do jii jii. it was one of the best shows i've seen in a very long time. strangely, they played nothing off freaked out and small, but that would have just been icing on an already awesome show. i must see them when they come back through town. |

in other news, my hard drive failed and, while i was able to recover my music, i was not able to recover my itunes playlist completely. so, i'm starting all over on my music counts.
actually, i have a backup of my old library, so what i can do is write a program to merge the play counts and last played date. it's just xml, so i don't think it should be that hard. i just need to get motivated to do it, without reminding myself of what happened and getting angry. that's the trick, isn't it? |

when the sun comes up on a sleepy little town, down around san anton'...
so, i went to woody's for a rock night last sunday, but due to a huge million-man blackout here in the great PNW, we ended up having an excellent four-man-acoustical-jam: truly one for the books.
'round about 9 or 10 the power came back on so we rocked one quick electrical set ... but the acoustic set by candlelight and wood stove was clearly the highlight of the evening. i think we really moved to the next plateau as a band due to this power out. yay for 113 MPH winds and trees with compromised root systems in rain-soaked ground! |

so, i've lost 20 lbs in the last 5 weeks. so, i'm ahead of schedule. my goal is ... extreme, to say the least, but this is the most weight i've lost on a diet since my heyday of 2001.
anyway, the hawks won 21-10 today. i never followed football much until this season and i gotta say, this is a good season to start followin'. |

well, i finally listened to all my newly ripped songs. in the time since my last post, the total count has grown to 5,061. a pretty wide selection, in all.
on the pager this week ... sucks, but you can't argue with money. it's also all good because i will never have to take the pager again: on july 3, i start my new job as a programmer/developer. i'm pretty extremely jazzed, and not even the pager can take that away :) |

for those of you unaware aware of my bass saga, i bought a new fretless bass on ebay from a music store in Minnesota. well, that was about six or eight weeks ago and it has yet to arrive. i had got a hold of the store a few weeks ago to let them know i never received it, but didn't hear back. i had pretty much resigned myself to it being gone.
i just got a call from the music store today, and they had been working with UPS to try to find it, but apparently it disappeared somewhere in the system. so, they are ordering a new one from the manufacturer and sending it out to me, and refunding my shipping charge. it took many weeks, but i get my $25 shipping back. my hope is renewed. w00t! |

well, i've finished my project of ripping all my cds into mp3. i still have a few glitchy songs to re-rip, but the initial task is now all done.
so now i have 759 unlistened songs on my list, with 5,022 total songs. i think i'll get them all listened to before the end of May ... w3wt.
